Ten fire engines from the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) raced to the scene near Errwood reservoir in the Upper Goyt Valley of the Peak District at 11.42am.
A crew then remained at the scene overnight to monitor the situation.
A reinspection is believed to have taken place at 6am this morning.
Cops have urgently warned locals to stay clear of the blaze.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "Given the circumstances of the incident please avoid the area and be aware that other road closures may be required quickly."
The manager of the landmark pub the Cat and Fiddle told the BBC she was "nervous" about the fire spreading to the premises - as the building is full of highly flammable alcohol.
Melanie Selstrom told the BBC: "We noticed the smoke between 10:00 and 11:00, and for hours it was a safe distance away.
"But the wind keeps changing, and suddenly it goes much closer, and when you are in a building full of alcohol and gas, that made us nervous.
"The fire crews are keeping parts of the distillery wet and putting dams in the car park, and we are getting lots of updates, but it's left us feeling a bit shaky."
In a live Facebook broadcast, she added: "We've had a lot of enquiries for our safety and welfare and so far, touch wood, everyone's OK and the building is OK.
"The periphery is being taken care by Cheshire Fire Service and Derbyshire Fire service.
"We're discouraging people from visiting or coming up - there's ash and smoke in the vicinity and lots of emergency vehicles trying to do their job, so unless your journey is urgent I would avoid the area.
"There are plumes [of smoke] just behind us, but luckily I think they are getting further away. It's all hands on deck here. What a dramatic day."

Five rescued from floods in New Mexico, less than month after storms killed three in same area

Heavy rain and flash floods caused five water rescues and multiple evacuations in southeastern New Mexico, less than a month after flooding in the same area killed three people. On Thursday afternoon, the Rio Ruidoso in Lincoln County rose over 12 feet, prompting five water rescues of stranded motorists and at least 14 evacuations, local officials told KOAT and The New York Times. There were no reports of deaths or injuries, the officials said, and flood waters began receding around 2pm local time. ' Move to higher ground immediately!' Lincoln County officials wrote in a Facebook post early Thursday afternoon. 'Do not delay gathering belongings or try to protect your home.' The flooding caused road closures, and residents shared videos of muddy flood waters inundating roads and ripping apart a riverside mobile home. The rains impacted a burn scar left by recent wildfires, sending loose earth into the river near the village of Ruidoso. The area near Ruidoso remains under a flood advisory from the National Weather Service. Flooding along the river earlier this month killed three people and damaged at least 35 homes. Summer rains have also impacted other parts of New Mexico. On Tuesday, severe flooding in Doña Ana County caused at least 15 emergency transports to an evacuation shelter, while search and rescue teams saved 20 people and their pets. The natural disasters come amid doubts about the future of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which the Trump administration has threatened to shutter entirely, moving disaster response to the states. Despite the threats, the administration announced this week four states that've been hit by disasters will get federal funding: Indiana, which experienced deadly tornadoes in March; Michigan, which experienced ice storms in March; Kentucky, which experienced flooding and tornadoes in April and May; and West Virginia, which experienced flooding and tornadoes in June. The administration plans to defer to local leaders, while still providing federal fundings, according to the White House. No official action has been taken to phase out FEMA, a White House official recently told The Independent. The climate crisis is making floods more deadly across the U.S.

Ten killed after being surrounded by raging wildfire in Turkey

At least 10 firefighters and rescue workers have died as wildfires rage across north west Turkey. Five forestry workers and five rescue workers died while trying to put out the wildfire raging through a forested area of Eskisehir earlier today. Forestry minister Ibrahim Yumakli said at least 14 more rescue workers have been hospitalised. These latest deaths bring the number of people killed in wildfires across Turkey since June 26 to 13. Mr Yumakli said all 24 people, including some from AKUT Search and Rescue Association, became surrounded by flames after the wind suddenly changed direction. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid his condolences to the families of those killed, saying they had fought 'to protect our forests at cost of their lives'. It's not yet known what caused this specific fire, but firefighters are currently dealing with seven fires in Turkey, including the one in Eskisehir. Prosecutors have now been assigned to investigate the deaths, Turkey's justice minister said. It's feared the situation could get worse on Thursday, with extreme heat and volatile wind conditions forecast for tomorrow. More Trending Mr Yumakli called on Turkey's residents to 'be vigilant and exercise extra caution'. An elderly man and two forestry workers were killed in a wildfire that raged near the town of Odemis, in Izmir province, earlier this month. AKUT is a non-governmental organisation for disaster search and rescue relief. Got a story? Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ Or you can submit your videos and pictures here.
