Dangerous ways to cool your kids
With heat health alerts sweeping across the UK, parents are desperate to find ways to keep their little ones cool.
But amidst the sweltering heat, there's a hidden danger lurking in your garden that could leave your child with horrific burns - and it's not the sun's rays.
Experts have issued a stark warning about the scorching temperatures water inside a hosepipe can reach when left in direct sunlight.
Dr Free N Hess, known for her child safety videos online on TikTok, commented that: 'A type of burn that we see in the pediatric ER all the time is burns from the water in the hose outside."
She explained in her video that water in a hose that's sitting outside in direct sunlight can heat up - and needs to be ran to release the hot water first.
This is hot enough to cause severe burns, particularly to children and animals.
It's crucial to always run the water for a few minutes until it's cool before letting children play with it or get sprayed.
But Alex Price, product manager at Outdoor Toys, told The Sun that if the water is too cold, it may be too much for sensitive babies or toddlers.
'Cold water can lead to discomfort, chills, or even hypothermia if young children stay in it for too long," he said.
Meanwhile, the UK's rivers, lakes, and other waterways might look incredibly inviting this time of year, but these have unpredictable dangers.
Plus, many parents aren't aware how many children die of drowning every week in the UK - including in paddling pools.
The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) warned: 'It doesn't take a lot of water. Little ones can drown in just a few cm of water.
'Drowning is silent. A drowning child won't splash about or cry for help. They'll slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed.'
So, what can you do?
CAPT says to:
Keep little children in arms reach when they're in or around the paddling pool.
If you have to go inside, take your child with you.
When there's lots of people around be sure to assign a dedicated water watcher.

'But it's now a question of whether they feel that striking another deal represents value for money, or if they feel that they have explored all the opportunities they can with the couple.' With Love, Meghan was generally derided when it was released last week, but within three days, Netflix confirmed the second series. Netflix and Archewell, the production company that makes the couple's shows, declined to comment on the contract renewal. With Love, Meghan was released to tie in with the launch of the Duchess of Sussex's As Ever brand. However both her Netflix series and her brand have been slammed by royal experts time and time again. Darts star Daryl Gurney ‘held back by security' in furious backstage row with Gerwyn Price

The pair ended their clash with a fiery ruckus on Monday night with the Welshman - who won 10-7 - aggressively grabbing his rival's hand. Despite the incident dominating social media and on Sky Sports, Price asked not to be questioned about Gurney in the post-match press conference. Vlottes continued: 'No questions about it were allowed. We had plenty lined up, but we were told not to ask. That wasn't the journalists, it was the PDC's decision.' Van der Voort added: 'That's where they fall short, in my opinion. It's a shame. Sport is emotion, and this sort of thing happens in every sport.' Price did touch on the subject, saying: 'I've learnt to try and keep my emotions in tact at key points sometimes. I did today in two or three legs where my head was going to blow off. I just had to keep it in.' Price did later post on his Instagram story: 'Have to be careful these days, I'm down to light cruiser weight.' In amongst all the aggro, Michael van Gerwen made a light-hearted attempt to calm down the situation. They have had previous rows in the Premier League which started at Sheffield in 2019, when had to be separated by security on that occasion.
