An MLB announcer was hospitalized with several cracked bones and a concussion after a 25-foot fall earlier this week.
Taking to X on Friday, Baltimore Orioles announcer Ben McDonald revealed that he suffered a concussion and two cracked vertebrae after falling 25 feet from a deer stand. McDonald said that he's fine now and appreciates everyone who has reached out to him. He also pledged to be back to calling games for the Orioles as soon as possible.
"This is what a severe concussion looks like and sounds like!🤦‍♂️ (I still don't remember anything) Apparently I fell out of a deer stand 25 feet up yesterday morning….I'm fine and appreciate everyone checking on me. Very lucky….concussion and 2 cracked vertebra's….I'll be back in #Birdland soon calling @Orioles games! Thank you for all ur thoughts and 🙏👊and thank you to the Doctors! See yall soon!" McDonald wrote, sharing a video from the hospital.
The Orioles, Orioles fans and many others have sent their well-wishes to McDonald as he continues recovering:
"I hope you are feeling better! Should we wrap you in bubble wrap whenever you go on your adventures?" one user wrote on X.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery," the Orioles' official account responded.
"Fell 25 feet off my deck 4 years ago, concussed, broke 2 vertebrae, and a couple of ribs. I was on a plane the next day, miracles happen, might be to something bigger than us idea. Cheers!" a third wrote.
"Man Ben that's sucks brother, sorry to hear that. Best wishes man and praying no lingering effects for you. Happy your okay."
"Damn man glad you're gonna be okay. I'm gonna replace all my straps soon because of this. A lot cheaper just to do that! I don't even hunt out of lock ons any more though, ladder stands only."
McDonald was the first-overall selection of the 1989 June draft by the Orioles following a Hall of Fame career at LSU. He went on to play seven seasons in Baltimore and another two with the Milwaukee Brewers,
Since retiring he has worked as a baseball color commentator for both the Orioles on MASN for the Orioles Radio Network and for ESPN's coverage of the NCAA Tournament. He also previously worked as an assistant coach for the Denham Springs High School softball team.MLB Announcer Hospitalized After Scary Fall first appeared on The Spun on Jul 19, 2025

College football recruiting rankings have a new No. 1

The Georgia Bulldogs have the best recruiting class in the SEC for several weeks and now, after a recent recruiting rankings update, the Dawgs have the best recruiting class in the country. Georgia recently surpassed the USC Trojans. USC had held the nation's top recruiting class for several months. The Big Ten has three of the nation's top 10 recruiting classes while the SEC has five top 10 recruiting classes including four of the top six. Of course, it is still early in the process for the class of 2026. The early signing period does not begin until December and recruiting powerhouses need to prove themselves on the field this fall in order to secure top recruiting classes. Despite having the top ranked recruiting class, Georgia is no lock to finish the cycle with the best recruiting class. Georgia has more commitments than any other team with a top 10 recruiting class outside of USC. Additionally, Georgia's average commitment is ranked lower than the average LSU, Alabama or Oregon commitment. The LSU Tigers have just 16 commitments, but have the highest ranked average commitment (93.67) of any top 10 recruiting team on 247Sports. Class of 2026 college football recruiting rankings Georgia Bulldogs (30 commitments) USC Trojans (31 commitments) Texas A&M Aggies (23 commitments) Alabama Crimson Tide (21 commitments) Notre Dame Fighting Irish (26 commitments) Texas Longhorns (26 commitments) Ohio State Buckeyes (21 commitments) LSU Tigers (16 commitments) Michigan Wolverines (21 commitments) Miami Hurricanes (22 commitments) All recruiting rankings are per 247Sports and are as of July 27. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels 'striving to be a perfect player'

A popular topic in a boring offseason for some was to predict that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels would have a sophomore slump in 2025. Washington coaches and teammates disagree with that assessment because they see Daniels every day. Teammates and coaches see Daniels arrive first at the facility. They see Daniels never placing himself above the team, always rooting his teammates on, from long snapper Tyler Ott to star wide receiver Terry McLaurin. They also see how hard he works, not just in the weight room and on the practice field, but in the meeting rooms, too. Daniels is always looking for ways to improve and gain an edge over that week's opponent. ESPN SportsCenter visited Washington's training camp on Sunday, and Daniels joined the set where he discussed everything from staying grounded to his expectations for himself. "I think it's the humility part, being grounded and never letting your ego, especially in the quarterback room, we always say, 'Check your egos at the door,' and that's the main thing they harp on," Daniels said. "Because everybody has egos. Everybody is selfish in their own ways. As human beings, that's just human nature. But for us, it's like, 'How can I just go out there and take that away from me?' Push the ego out of the way, and how can I be able to grow and get better because I still got so much to learn. I'm striving to be a perfect player." How many other young quarterbacks talk like that? Daniels is different. After coming off a record-breaking rookie year in which he led Washington to its best season in 33 years, Daniels is looking for ways to get better. He's looking for ways to get past the Eagles. While no human being is perfect, on and off the field, there's nothing wrong with striving to be perfect. Good luck to those who predicted a sophomore slump. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels 'striving to be a perfect player'

Marlins star Kyle Stowers' Best Day Ever in Miami

Miami Marlins left fielder Kyle Stowers is having an impressive 2025 season. He made his first All-Star Game and ranks among the MLB's most prolific home run hitters. We caught up with the California native to ask him how he likes to unwind during an off-day in Miami. Answers edited for space 🍊 Morning Meal: My wife and I like going to Pura Vida because of their healthy and tasty options. I like to get the overnight oats and maybe a smoothie. We also love to go to Pasión del Cielo. They have so many good coffee options. 🐶 Morning Activity: We love to walk our dog around the Key Biscayne Dog Beach. We also like to lay out for a little. I love going in the water, because I think ocean water is healing. We then will walk our dog on the beach, and he'll put his feet in the water. ⛱ Afternoon activity: I love to go to get a day pass at a resort and hang out by the pool. It feels like vacation when you go to those places and get to order food or a drink to one of the cabanas. Having beach access is also a nice perk. I just love being by the water. 🌮 Lunch: I'm probably going to The Taco Stand. We have a few of them in San Diego, so it really just reminds me of home. Mexican food is my favorite, so it's the perfect spot. I'm probably getting one of the burritos there but will sometimes get a quesadilla or rolled tacos. 🍣 Dinner: There is no shortage of fine dining in Miami, that's for sure! But I think my favorite spot I've been to so far is Mila in South Beach. I really liked the sushi rolls I got there, but their other options are amazing, too. 🌙 Evening activity: Usually on off days we try to get home fairly early and have some time to wind down. But if we were to go out, we would probably go to Brickell with teammates and watch whatever sports is on at one of the restaurants. I love spending time with the guys off the field.
