Flambards Theme Park to auction off its assets next month

Yahoo16-02-2025
The memories of Flambards Theme Park may be fading, but its legacy will be up for grabs next month as the park's assets go under the hammer.
Just four months after the popular Cornish theme park in Helston announced its closure due to "rising costs" and a "steady decline" in visitor numbers, its assets will now be sold under the hammer.
Lay's Auctioneers have used this image on its website, which suggests artefacts from the Victorian Village could be going under the hammer (Image: Lays Auctioneers) Lay's Auctioneers, based in Penzance, has announced the details for 'The Flambards Sale', which will take place at Lay's Penzance saleroom.
Although the information is limited at the moment, the photo on the Lay's Auctioneers website suggests that it will include many items from the Victorian Village.
The auction will span four days: March 25, 26, 27, and 28, beginning at 10am each day. The lot breakdown is as follows:
Day one (March 25): lots 1-500
Day two (March 26): lots 501-1000
Day three (March 27): lots 1001-1500
Day four (March 28): lots 1501-2000
Viewing dates are scheduled prior to the auction at Flambards. These are as follows:
Saturday, March 22: 10am-4pm
Sunday, March 23: 10am-4pm
Monday, March 24: 10am-4pm
There will be a £10 entrance fee for viewing.
Hundreds of people across Cornwall and beyond shared their sadness following the announcement on November 4, 2024.
MP Andrew George described it as the "saddest day of the week," referencing Flambards' promotional slogan.

Several fans of the attraction also shared their own special memories. One wrote: "End of an era, some great memories from working there during the summer months as a teenager, lots of laughs and good times."
People shared their memories and pictures after the closure (Image: Paula Bostock) Another commented, " It's the end of an era for most Helston folk who used to spend their summers there, like me. I went there from the age of six, and I'm now 34. I even watched the 1999 solar eclipse there when I was nine. It might sound silly, but the news of its closure has made me all emotional."
Concerns were also raised for the staff who lost their jobs, particularly since the closure occurred before Christmas. One resident said, "Thoughts are with the staff and their families. Many office staff who are all year-round employees are now made redundant."
In the wake of the closure, Helston Town Council responded to a public petition and announced it was taking "proactive steps" to preserve the park's Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz exhibitions.
At the time, the Project Officer for the council, Richard James, contacted Flambards' owners to explore options for keeping the exhibitions in the town.
Helston Town Council wanted to preserve the exhibition in the town (Image: File) "After discussing it with the Town Clerk, I reached out to the owners of Flambards to enquire what the future of the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz exhibition might be," Richard said in his November report.
"There has been a lot of support from the local community about this particular element of the attraction, and I believe there is an opportunity for Helston Town Council to work with Livingstone Leisure and local organisations to save this important part of the town's heritage.
"I am seeking approval to continue with this and gain an indication from members of how much Helston Town Council is willing to be involved in this exciting project.'
The Packet will bring more information when it becomes available.

Inside the Highly Anticipated Casa Dani, Now Open in Century City

is the Lead Editor of the Southern California/Southwest region, and has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. One of Spain's most celebrated chefs, Dani Garcia, opened his former New York City restaurant Casa Dani inside the Westfield Century City, next to SBE sibling Katsuya, on July 25, 2025. With classic, upscale takes on traditional Spanish cuisine, Casa Dani has been one of the most anticipated new restaurant openings in Los Angeles this year. Expect ultra-thin paella topped with a roasted Cornish game hen, paper-thin Andalusian tuna carpaccio doused with fruity olive oil, and a cheese-laden wagyu beef burger that should draw plenty of attention on social media. Sam Nazarian's SBE and Dani Garcia will take a page from New York and offer all-day service with a reasonable $39 three-course prix fixe menu that should cater to office workers and locals. The menu has more than two dozen selections of Spanish and California-inflected dishes, like avocado and bluefin tartare, paccheri alla vodka, chorizo and aji empanadas, and grilled sea bass (note that like half the options come with additional charges). Finish the lunch prix fixe with roasted pineapple with passionfruit yogurt or caramelized rice pudding. A full a la carte lunch menu offers flexibility too, including iberico ham sandwiches in tomato bread or half-sized vegetable or seafood paellas. Casa Dani's wagyu beef burger. For dinner, there's more of a focus on luxe ingredients. Tuna is prepared four ways in dishes including the famed porterhouse tuna carpaccio, tuna croquettes, and a duo of tartares with pickled vegetable relish. Only larger-sized paellas are offered in the evenings, which should easily feed two people. A 32-ounce bone-in Australian wagyu rib-eye comes with two sides to conjure a Basque-style beef experience. The entire menu balances an LA-centric desire for raw fish and locally sourced vegetables with some Italian pastas (bucatini Bolognese, paccheri alla vodka), and steakhouse-style grilled mains. The evening dessert menu features burnt Basque cheesecake that's become ubiquitous in Los Angeles, plus yuzu flan and chocolate mousse with vanilla chantilly. Frescor Andalusí, one of the chef's signature desserts, is also on the menu, with orange blossom ice cream, pistachio cake, and jasmine. It's all versatile and easy with a certain amount of polish, one would expect from a chef with multiple Michelin-starred restaurants. To drink, expect modern takes on Spanish cocktails like a grapefruit-tinted gin and tonic and an olive oil-laden martini with thyme and peppercorns. Wines are sourced from California, Spain, and France, with a solid set of sherry and port. Casa Dani's interior greatly resembles the modern European vibes of the New York original, with natural tones and surfaces, recalling posh neighborhoods of Mexico City with pops of leafy greens, and appealing green ceramic cups to contrast the camel leather chairs. Toward the open kitchen, a shelf of chilled shellfish, branzino, and snapper signals the restaurant's strength in the seafood department. It should draw plenty of tourists and Westside residents alike looking for buttoned-up Spanish fare in the familiar confines of Westfield Century City. Casa Dani is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's located at 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard, Suite 1799, Los Angeles, CA, 90067. Reeves to visit Cornish tin mine due to be revived

Rachel Reeves will visit a tin mine due to be reopened with government backing during a trip to Cornwall. The Chancellor said the £28.6 million National Wealth Fund investment to Cornish Metals, which is seeking to reopen the South Crofty tin mine, could create up to 1,300 jobs. The Chancellor will also visit other Cornish businesses and will hail plans to cut red tape that aim to boost the region's pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes by allowing more al fresco dining and longer opening hours. 'Despite having so much potential to grow, Cornwall has been neglected by successive governments, and its families and businesses have suffered as a result,' the Chancellor said. 'Like in every part of the UK, I am determined to unlock growth that creates jobs and puts more money in Cornish people's pockets. 'Our investment to revive Cornwall's proud tin mining industry and the thousands of jobs it will create for years to come is one way we are renewing the county.' The reopening of the mine itself is expected to create more than 300 jobs and the Treasury estimates the mine could create 1,000 more as it fuels supply chains in the UK with needs for metal fabricators and electricians. It would support the UK's domestic tin supply amid increased demand for use in solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, semi-conductors and energy storage increases. Don Turvey, chief executive of Cornish Metals, said: 'We are honoured to welcome the Chancellor to South Crofty and proud to showcase the significant progress we're making as we move toward production. 'The UK Government's £28.6 million investment via the National Wealth Fund is a powerful vote of confidence in our project and the future of Cornwall's mining industry.' The Chancellor has also visited ship repair business A&P Falmouth and Harbour Lights fish and chip shop in Falmouth and will go to heat pump manufacturer Kensa in Truro.

Chapman's Eat Market in German Village to close after five years

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Chapman's Eat Market, a German Village eatery from the Columbus restaurateur couple behind Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge, is closing after five years in business. Husband-and-wife duo B.J. Lieberman and Bronwyn Haines announced on social media last week that Chapman's at 739 S. Third St., which opened in 2020, is permanently shuttering at the end of August. The couple said, as the restaurant nears its fifth birthday and the end of the lease, they 'were faced with the difficult decision on whether or not to continue.' Ohio horror museum featuring 'last meal' restaurant reveals opening date 'Inevitably, we chose to finish our story on a high note, celebrating all that we have accomplished and created over the years and within these walls, including the team that we've built and the memories we made,' the social media post said. Watch a NBC4 report from Chapman's 2020 opening in the video player above. Lieberman was one of two Columbus chefs named among the semifinalists for last year's James Beard Awards, prestigious national honors that recognize talent in the culinary and food media industries. He and Haines also launched Ginger Rabbit at 17 Buttles Ave. in 2022, and most recently opened Metsi's Wood-Fired Italian at 36 E. Lincoln St. last month. Chapman's, named among the New York Times' best U.S. restaurants in 2021, is home to a curated menu of appetizers, salads, pastas and entrees, like Levantine cod, smoked Cornish game hen, and a 6-ounce beef tenderloin. Sides, like beef fat fries and wilted green beans, round out the menu. Granville's historic Buxton Inn listed for $5.85 million Lieberman and Haines said Chapman's final day of service will be announced in August. Until then, the restaurant is open 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 'We hope each and every one of you will join us for a final meal before we say goodbye — whether it's your last general tsos cauliflower, khao soi or maple budino, we look forward to serving and celebrating with you,' the social media post said.
