The Florida Panthers, who needed 30 years to win their first Stanley Cup championship, can become the ninth NHL team with back-to-back titles.
All they need is a home victory against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 on Tuesday, June 17. The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final with a defensive masterpiece in Game 5.

"The most important thing is to stick with our game," Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov said. "You don't need to change anything. ... That's been our whole mindset the whole playoffs. The next game, you have be better than the previous game."
The Panthers are 3-1 this postseason when they have a chance to close out a series. In last year's final, the Panthers gave up a 3-0 series lead before winning in Game 7.
The Oilers are counting on their resilience as they try to force a seventh game, which would be on Friday, June 20, in Edmonton, Alberta.
"For some reason when their backs are against up the wall and they've hit rock bottom and they're facing elimination … they play their best and they don't panic," Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said.

Stuart Skinner will be back in the Oilers net for Game 6 after Calvin Pickard had played in Game 5.

Florida Makes Exciting Announcement Before 2025 College Football Season

Florida Makes Exciting Announcement Before 2025 College Football Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 season appears to be a promising one for the Florida Gators. With head coach Billy Napier entering his fourth season in Gainesville and phenom quarterback DJ Lagway coming off an exhilarating freshman campaign, UF's football program seems to be heading in the right direction. Advertisement On Tuesday, Athlon Sports released its 2025 preseason All-America and all-conference teams, with three Gators earning national honors and 10 being named to the All-SEC teams. Lagway, who dazzled the Florida faithful last year, going 6-1 as a starter and leading UF to four-straight victories to end the season, made one of the teams, but he may not be where you expect. Florida's starting quarterback was not named to a preseason All-American team but was given fourth-team All-SEC offensive honors. Lagway is now the undisputed No. 1 under center for the Gators, and UF fans hope he will end this season with much higher honors. Advertisement Unlike Lagway, there was no surprise with Florida's lone selection for first-team All-American with star center Jake Slaughter being named to the team. This comes after he was selected to the 2025 Walter Camp Preseason First Team Offense earlier in the day. He is entering his fifth year with the Gators after an accolade-filled 2024. The other two who were named to All-America teams were Tyreak Sapp (third-team defense) and Eugene Wilson II (fourth-team offense). Sapp led Florida with seven sacks and 13 tackles-for-loss last year. Wilson had an awe-inspiring freshman season in 2023, leading UF with six touchdown receptions on 61 catches and 538 yards. However, he was stricken with injuries last year, as he started only four games and was granted a redshirt. Outside of Slaughter, Sapp (second-team defense) and Wilson (second-team offense), seven other Gators were named to All-SEC teams by Athlon. This includes second-teamers Jadan Baugh and Austin Barber, who were named to the offensive team, and Caleb Banks, who made the defensive squad. Florida Gators running back Jadan Baugh (13).Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images Baugh earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2024 after running for 673 yards and seven touchdowns, while Barber protected the left side of the offensive line for him and Lagway in the backfield. Barber started all 13 games at left tackle last season and was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week in Week 4. Banks locked down the middle of Florida's defensive front last season with 21 tackles, including seven tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks. Advertisement The final three who were named to preseason All-SEC teams by Athlon were Grayson Howard, Devin Moore and Bryce Thornton. Howard, who started the first nine games in 2024 before missing the last four due to injury, amassed 37 tackles, two tackles-for-loss and a pair of fumble recoveries. Moore played seven games last season, recording two pass break-ups and one interception, while Thornton led Florida in picks with three, including a pair against Ole Miss in Florida's upset victory. With 10 Gators earning preseason honors from Athlon, there is a lot to be excited about in Gainesville for Billy Napier's team. Tyreek Hill Trade Reaction Stirs Fans' Dream of Chiefs Reunion

Tyreek Hill Trade Reaction Stirs Fans' Dream of Chiefs Reunion originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Dolphins dumped two valuable pieces to their roster by trading away All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey amid their mutual disagreements, and tight end Jonnu Smith amid his contract dispute. Advertisement Miami now sees two integral pieces of their last playoff team walk out the door, in turn closing their opportunity to compete in 2025 even more. Among the few bright spots remaining on this Dolphins' roster are the speedy receivers Jaylen Waddle and former Kansas City Chiefs great Tyreek Hill. Hill has issued some choice words this offseason about a trade involving himself, but his reaction to the Ramsey news conjured more feelings of sentiment rather than disgruntlement. The All-Pro deep threat reposted the trade with a viral meme from "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" in which Will Smith is standing in an empty home during the show's final episode. Advertisement Tyreek also added a crying-face emoji. By the looks of things, Hill is upset about losing teammates Ramsey and Smith, potentially feeling that the franchise is moving in a wrong direction with the roster. This could suggest he would want out too, but that's all speculative. As expected, Hill's response has gone viral and stirred eager Chiefs fans with hope that he could seek a reunion in KC if the Dolphins are giving up on any last playoff goals. 'Time to come home,' a fan wrote. A more hopelessly optimistic suggested Tyreek return on the veteran minimum. Even DraftKings Sportsbook hinted that it could be 'time to go back where it all started? 🤔' Advertisement As romantic a reunion as it would be, the Chiefs couldn't afford Hill's contract, even if they wanted to. Kansas City has just about $10 million in cap room left this offseason. Hill's cap hit is $27 million this year. The math isn't mathin'. There has been no formal indication that either team would want to follow through with this hypothetical, but if they were ... it still could become possible if Chiefs general manager convinces the Dolphins to cover a large chunk of Hill's salary upon a trade. That's more unlikely given that Miami just did that with a slice of Ramsey's deal. KC has a more pressing contract plan coming for offensive guard Trey Smith, who is expected to become one of the game's highest-paid linemen on his extension. Advertisement Regarding the receivers, Patrick Mahomes will still have plenty of weapons without bringing back Hill. Xavier Worthy, "Hollywood" Brown, and Rashee Rice are expected to be one of the league's most explosive trios if they can all remain healthy. The Chiefs should be focused on a storybook ending with another Lombardi Trophy in arms, not a reunion for a former player. All-Star winger Mitch Marner looks forward to fitting into family culture of Vegas Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Family. Winning. Culture. All three have become synonymous with the Vegas Golden Knights through their first eight years in the NHL. They matched the attributes on Mitch Marner's list and why he agreed to a sign-and-trade from Toronto to Vegas, ultimately leaving the organization that drafted him fourth overall in 2015, two years before the Knights entered the league. 'Obviously, the winning regimen they've put up through the last five years, really since they've been in the league,' Marner said during his introductory news conference Tuesday. 'The living arrangements from talking to (Max) Pacioretty and Reavo (Ryan Reaves) just through the last couple weeks, it seemed like everything was a pretty good fit for my wife and I and our new son. 'And you know, the great players they have here. It's where we wanted to be.' Of course, a $96 million contract for a maximum of eight years didn't hurt, either. Both Marner and Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon said it was important to get the deal done before July 1, when Marner would have been eligible to go anywhere else and would have been the most sought-after player beginning at noon EDT. 'This was a spot that was very high on my list,' said Marner, with his wife Stephanie and 3-month-old son Miles in the front row, along with his parents, Paul and Bonnie. 'We wanted to come here and went back to my agent and said I'm open to doing this if we can find a way to do it. A couple hours later Kelly called me and said we got a deal going on. 'We thought about going to free agency, but this is the place we want to be. We didn't want to lose that opportunity. And we want to join this hockey team.' Marner joins Vegas' talented and successful core of Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, William Karlsson, Shea Theodore and Adin Hill, which has made the playoffs three years in a row under coach Bruce Cassidy, including winning the Stanley Cup in 2023. 'You want to be in a place where you want to win,' Marner said. 'That's the whole goal of why we do this, you want to hoist that Stanley Cup. This team has shown that they can do it. I'm lucky enough now to hopefully bring another piece in to help bring it back here.' The deal for Marner opened up after Vegas announced veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was stepping away from hockey because his hip injury would require bilateral femur reconstruction that McCrimmon said had 'no guarantee of success.' Pietrangelo going on long-term injured reserve in part paves the way for the Golden Knights to fit Marner in under the salary cap. McCrimmon said Tuesday he doesn't believe Pietrangelo will ever play hockey again. Marner, however, has plenty to offer the Knights, as the two-time All-Star winger leaves the Maple Leafs as their fifth-highest scorer in franchise history at 741 points in the regular season on 221 goals (14th) and 520 assists (fourth). The 28-year-old's 521 assists since his rookie season (2016-17) ranks fifth in the NHL, while he ranks eighth with 741 points. 'We're getting one of the best forwards in the National Hockey League,' said McCrimmon, who also said that conversations about acquiring Marner went back to the trade deadline. 'Elite playmaker, tremendous passer. ... Our fans will love this player. He really adds to our team. He adds to our offense. It gives us another F1 star at the forward position, which we really feel is important. I think that it improves our team tremendously. 'When it appeared that Mitch would be going to free agency, he was our target. He was the player that we wanted.' ___ AP Hockey Writers Stephen Whyno and John Wawrow contributed to this report. ___ AP NHL:
