TV presenter, 74, shocked as he's diagnosed with skin cancer live on-air

Metro05-06-2025
A TV presenter was left reeling live on air when a doctor appearing on the programme discovered he had skin cancer.
Fox News anchor Mike Jerrick, 74, was hosting Good Day Philadelphia when dermatologist Dr Joanna Walker in the studio pointed out a spot on his arm that was likely to be cancerous.
Walker works with the Tara Miller Melanoma Center at the University of Pennsylvania and was quick to label the skin abnormality as having 'all the features' that would suggest it was skin cancer.
She pointed to the spot on his arm and said: 'This is a basal cell skin cancer. That has all the features of the most common type of skin cancer.'
Basal cell cancer is the most common type of skin cancer and looks like a raised bump on the skin, which may be shiny and also have little blood vessels across it.
Walker went on to say that the type of skin cancer he was showing was 'slow growing' and easy to treat, but that he would have to have it removed from his arm.

Jerrick wondered if it would need to be burned off, but Walker explained it would require being 'cut and stitched'.
'What!' Jerrick exclaimed. 'And then stitch me up?' To which Walker replied: 'This one is a very slow growing type of skin cancer.
'It's not going to spread to anywhere else on your body, but it needs to be removed so it doesn't keep growing and taking over normal skin.' More Trending
Jerrick was clearly shocked by the discovery in the studio, telling the Fox News audience: 'I did say that we should have had her bring her [micro]scope because I wanted to check out of couple of things on my arms, so that part was planned, but I never really thought it was going to be skin cancer.'
Jerrick told his co-host Alex Holley he would be booking an appointment to follow Walker's advice, adding: 'When she blurted it out, I didn't get alarmed or anything. It was just like, 'Oh dang, I should have done this a long time ago'.'
He added: 'I was more shocked that she said she was going to cut it out instead of burn it off- that's where I got surprised.'

Fox News has reported Jerrick is set to have the spot removed on Friday (June 6).

Decomposing bodies pile up on streets after more than 1,000 killed in Syria

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video As many as 1,017 people have been killed during clashes, executions and Israeli airstrikes in Syria ahead of a ceasefire today. Mutilated, decomposing bodies are piling on streets in the southern city of Sweida over the last week as hospitals have run out of space to store the dead. Fighting between factions of the Druze minority group and Bedouin tribes began last week, drawing in a military intervention from Syrian forces. On the pretence of defending the Druze fighters, Israel unleashed a series of bombardments on Sweida and the Syrian defence ministry in Damascus on Monday. Amid the secterian violence, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that the death toll has surpassed 1,000 – with almost half of them civilians. An estimated 336 Druze fighters and 298 civilians from the minority group, as well as 342 government security personnel and 21 Sunni Bedouin, have been killed. Hospitals in Sweida have been inundated and are running out of medical supplies to treat the injured and space to store the bodied of the dead. A doctor in Sweida said a local hospital was full of bodies and wounded people from days of violence. 'All the injuries are from bombs, some people with their chests wounded. There are also injuries to limbs from shrapnel,' said Omar Obeid, director of the hospital. Syrian television reported that corpses are piled up on streets due to lack of space in morgue refrigerators at National Hospital. It added: 'The health situation is getting worse in Sweida Governorate. 'Hospitals are witnessing a shortage of medical staff and tragic conditions amid a severe shortage of medicines. Escalating hostilities can only be contained with an agreement to pause violence, protect the innocent, allow humanitarian access, and step back from danger. As of 17:00 Damascus time, all parties have navigated to a pause and cessation of hostilities. The next foundation stone… — Ambassador Tom Barrack (@USAMBTurkiye) July 20, 2025 'Water cut off completely from the National Hospital. Corpses are piling up in the National Hospital garden because the refrigerators cannot accommodate the number of corpses. 'Water cut continues to affect the neighborhoods of Sweida city for the seventh day in a row. 'Operation of bakeries in the city has stopped except for the health bakery, which is not enough to cover the needs of the population.' Residents reported calm in Sweida today after the Islamist-led government announced that Bedouin fighters had withdrawn from the predominantly Druze city and a US envoy signalled that a deal to end days of fighting was being implemented. Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa announced that an immediate ceasefire will take place today and urged an immediate end to hostilities. The interior ministry said internal forces had begun deploying. But there are fears as to how long the deal will remain in place for, despite support from Turkey, Jordan and the US. More Trending Sharaa said Syria would not be a 'testing ground for partition, secession, or sectarian incitement'. 'The Israeli intervention pushed the country into a dangerous phase that threatened its stability,' he said in a televised speech. The ceasefire involves the deployment of government security forces to Sweida province, and the opening of humanitarian corridors. It also includes 'work to secure all detained Bedouin residents in areas controlled by outlaw groups', the interior ministry said, referring to Druze fighters, as well as the exchange of detainees. Real life Final Destination after man is sucked inside MRI machine by gold chain

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A man is in a critical condition after he was magnetically pulled into an MRI machine while wearing a metal neck chain. The 61-year-old walked into the MRI room at Nassau Open MRI on Long Island, New York, on Wednesday afternoon while someone else was undergoing an MRI, according police. His metal neck chain then pulled him into the machine, at which point he suffered a medical episode and was rushed to hospital. No more details about the episode or injuries have been given, only that he was in a critical condition. Nassau County Police say he was not a patient at the medical centre and had been visiting with someone else, but was unauthorised to enter the MRI room. They do not believe any criminality was involved. The incident is reminiscent of a gruesome scene in Final Destination: Bloodlines, which was released in May and is the sixth installment of the franchise. In the film, one of the characters and the wheelchair he's sitting in are dragged into a MRI machine, while his brother's numerous piercings get pulled out. Neither survive (unsurprisingly, given it's Final Destination). Nassau Open MRI, which has several other branches, offers both open and closed scans. More Trending Medical professionals at the nearby North Shore University Hospital, expressed their shocked and said that rigorous safety protocols should be in place to avoid attracting MRI machines attracting metal objects. Speaking about the accident, ER doctor Payal Sud told Eyewitness News: 'If this was a chain that was wrapped around the neck, I could imagine any kind of strangulation injuries that could happen, asphyxiation, cervical spine injuries if the patient was slams against the MRI, you know, any kind of blunt force trauma that we can think about could happen.' The investigation is ongoing. MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, machines use powerful magnetic fields, so patients and medical staff must always remove jewelry and other metal objects before entering the room the equipment is in. Fox News halted as Donald Trump diagnosed with serious health condition amid concerning bruises

US President Donald Trump has received a worrying diagnosis after being spotted with more mysterious bruises on his hands this week. Fox News has been paused for an urgent breaking news announcement as US president Donald Trump has been diagnosed with a medical condition that affects his veins. The 79-year-old was recently spotted with worrying bruises on the back of his hands and swelling in his legs, prompting concerns that he could be suffering from a heart problem. ‌ However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has now issued a statement on his diagnosis, which was shared on Fox. She confirmed: 'The president underwent a comprehensive examination including diagnostic vascular studies, bilateral lower extremity vent denis Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition particularly in individuals over the age of 70. ‌ "Importantly there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. Laboratory testing included a complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, coagulation profile, D-dimer, B-type natriuretic peptide and cardiac biomarkers. All results were within normal limits." ‌ She continued: "An echocardiogram was also performed and confirmed normal cardiac structure and function; no signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness were identified.' Speaking live on Fox while a breaking news alert banner played on-screen, host John said: 'We see the back of the president's hand where he's got some bruising, he looks like he's got it covered with make-up there." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! He added: "I was on a blood thinner when I had atrial fibrillation for a while, doc, and I would bruise in a stiff breeze. For a person his age who's taking aspirin therapy for his heart, that wouldn't be unusual, but what do you think of the overall report from the White House here?' The presenters were joined by medical expert Marc Siegel, who seemingly responded with a dig at former president Joe Biden. He stated: 'I'm actually impressed with how open it is and how detailed it is, because they actually answered all the questions that I would have had. Maybe a contrast after the previous administration where everything was cloak and dagger. 'Look, she has a lot of details that reassure me. He doesn't have deep vein thrombosis, he doesn't have a deep vein there, they checked that. "They checked his heart – why are his legs swelling? Could it be backup from the heart? No! His echocardiogram is normal.' Trump's diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency has caused bruising and swelling on his body but he is said not to be in any discomfort at this time. The bruises on his hand were said to be 'consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen'.
