PM Modi to launch projects worth around ₹2,200 cr in Varanasi on Aug 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch multiple development projects worth around ₹2,200 crore for Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, on Saturday.
A statement said the projects cater to several sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development and cultural heritage, and are aimed at achieving holistic urban transformation, cultural rejuvenation, improved connectivity and an enhanced quality of life in Varanasi.
Modi will inaugurate projects to widen and strengthen the Varanasi-Bhadohi and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar roads, and construct a rail overbridge at Hardattpur to ease congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura Road.
He will lay the foundation stone for comprehensive road widening and strengthening across multiple rural and urban corridors, including Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, Gangapur, Babatpur, and rail overbridges at level crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard, the statement said.
Strengthening the power infrastructure in the region, the prime minister will lay the foundation stone for various initiatives under the Smart Distribution Project and undergrounding of electrical infrastructure worth more than ₹880 crore.
In a major boost to tourism, Modi will inaugurate the redevelopment project of eight riverfront "kuccha ghats", development works at Kalika Dham, beautification of the pond and the ghat at Rangildas Kutiya, Shivpur, and the restoration and water purification of Durgakund.
He will lay the foundation stone for restoration work at the Kardameshwar Mahadev temple, development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of several freedom fighters, city facility centres in the Sarnath, Rishi Mandvi and Ramnagar zones, redevelopment of Munshi Premchand's ancestral house in Lamahi and upgrading it into a museum.
He will also lay the foundation stone for the development of the Urban Miyawaki Forest at Kanchanpur and the redevelopment and beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks.
The other projects will include upgrading 53 school buildings within the municipal boundary, constructing a new district library and rejuvenating government high schools at Jakhini.
Furthering his vision for world-class sports infrastructure in Varanasi, the prime minister will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium.
Enhancing facilities for law-enforcement personnel, he will inaugurate a 300-capacity multipurpose hall at Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), Ramnagar and lay the foundation stone for Quick Response Team (QRT) barracks.
He will also release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN. An amount of more than ₹20,500 crore will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country. With this release, the total disbursement under the scheme since its inception will surpass ₹3.9 lakh crore.
A number of other projects related to health and water bodies will be unveiled as well.

Centre hikes PM-SHRI funding in Andhra under NDA, 120% rise over Jagan Reddy-era
The Centre has nearly doubled its allocation to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme in 2024–25, marking a 120 per cent increase over the previous year when the state was under YSR Congress Party state education department cited information received by TDP MPs GM Harish Balayogi and Putta Mahesh Kumar, who had raised questions in the Lok Sabha on August 4 regarding the district-wise details of PM-SHRI schools established in Andhra Pradesh and the funds allocated over the past three Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary said Andhra Pradesh was sanctioned Rs 354.85 crore under the scheme in 2023–24, with Rs 212.91 crore coming from the Centre. For 2024-25, the sanctioned outlay rose to Rs 782.39 crore, with the Centre contributing Rs 469.43 crore. For the current financial year, 2025–26, the outlay stands at Rs 555.76 crore, of which Rs 333.46 crore is the Central share, as per official information published on the Lok Sabha move signals a renewed push by the NDA government to upgrade school infrastructure in the far, 935 schools across Andhra Pradesh have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme, including 37 in Eluru and 28 in Konaseema. What Satya Pal Malik said in his last interview: On Pahalgam, security, and Kashmiri people
Former J&K governor Satya Pal Malik, who passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged spell of hospitalisation, had spoken of alleged security lapses that led to the Pahalgam terror attack in April, in what was purportedly his last interview. Satya Pal Malik spoke in favour of the farmers' protest in 2020-21 when he was governor of Meghalaya, and gave many more interviews against the Modi government after his term ended in 2022.(PTI File) He had called the BJP-led NDA government 'shameless' and 'cowardly', and attacked PM Narendra Modi directly, as he spoke to The Wire. Malik was governor of Jammu and Kashmir when the Pulwama terrorist attack took place in 2019. He was the last to hold that post before the state was turned into union territory, and Ladakh was carved out as a separate UT. He served as governor in Bihar, Meghalaya, Goa and Odisha, too, and later said 'serious intelligence failure and security lapses' led to the Pahalgam attack in which more than 40 paramilitary personnel were killed. Malik had later said his demands for more security had been ignored. The central government repeatedly dismissed his claims. His friction with the government first came to light as he sided with farmers in their 2020-21 protest against three laws that were later withdrawn. He had underlined his Jat identity — the community primarily engaged in farming in northern India — and said he was ready to quit as governor for supporting the protesting farmers. He gave many more interviews against the Modi government after his term as governor of Meghalaya ended in 2022. In an interview earlier this year, he said no lessons had been learnt from Pulwama, 'and that's why Pahalgam took place'. He also called for the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who, under central rule, was responsible for security. Sinha later said at a function that he took 'full responsibility' for the lapses. After the Pahalgam attack in the interview that went online on May 6, Satya Pal Malik spoke against detentions and arrests of local people. He accused the central government of acting along communal lines and stoking a Hindu-Muslim divide. He also spoke about the response of the compassionate Kashmiri people who condemned the attack with candle marches across the UT. PM Modi did not praise the Kashmiri response because of their religious identity, Mailk had alleged. The interview was done before the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor against terror bases in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam massacre.
