APSRTC free travel for women across state up to Express buses
Speaking at a review meeting of Nellore Zone RTC depot managers on Wednesday, said the free bus travel scheme reflects the government's commitment to women's empowerment. The scheme will be implemented from August 15, using existing RTC buses and personnel. RTC officials should take measures to ensure smooth implementation of the free travel scheme, he said.
State, Central IDs valid for free travel
Drivers and conductors, particularly in the light of expected high volume of female passengers in the initial days of the scheme, should behave courteously.
A Zone 2 coordination meeting will be held on July 31 to ensure seamless implementation of the scheme, he said.
About 1,050 new buses will soon be inducted, and that 1,500-2,000 diesel buses will be replaced per annum with electric buses as per Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's vision, he said.
APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana said, 'We are fully prepared to implement the NDA election promise. Women will soon be able to travel from any point to any destination within the State with just a valid Central or State government-issued ID card. This scheme will bring significant change to women's lives in Andhra Pradesh. The scheme is exclusively for women residing in the State.'
RTC Zonal Chairman Suresh Reddy condemned unnecessary criticism from opposition parties, saying, 'They didn't even lay roads in the past. We studied how similar schemes are implemented in other States and are now committed to enforcing it robustly.'

YSRCP blames Andhra govt for fertilizer shortage
Last Updated: Amaravati, Aug 4 (PTI) The YSRCP on Monday accused the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government of ignoring farmers' needs and allegedly failing to ensure fertilizer supply during kharif season. Despite the beginning of kharif season, farmers are struggling as the government has failed to provide essential fertilizers, it said. 'The government has once again proved its inefficiency. RBKs are dysfunctional and farmers are anxious. Chandrababu calls agriculture a waste," the party said. 'The TDP-led NDA government has shown its inefficiency once again by not making the fertilizers available though the Kharif season has set in," said YSRCP in a release. The opposition party alleged that the current government deliberately destroyed the Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), launched by the former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, thus placing 'farmers in great distress across the state". The promised supply of urea and other fertilizers was not provided, said YSRCP, alleging that this betrayal enabled black-marketing to flourish at farmers' expense. The YSRCP will continue to champion farmers' rights, as agriculture remains a key priority for the party under Reddy's leadership, it said. It further alleged that the NDA coalition government is not treating farming as a vital sector and declared that the party will expose the failures and fight for justice to cultivators. Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu turns heat on defaulters in green energy space
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government has launched a crackdown on renewable energy developers sitting on land parcels without initiating work and has ordered scrutiny of projects worth ₹4 lakh crore. In the first action, the government has cancelled a 328 MW wind power project allocated to Sreeja Infrastructure, a subsidiary of the Italian renewable energy major Enel Green, which was recently acquired by Gujarat-based Waaree Energies . The project was sanctioned in 2018 when Naidu was in power. However, the Capacity Sanction Agreement, required for formal commencement of work, was signed in 2022 under the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government. The company had to complete the project in 24 months by December 2024. The government has now cancelled the project and ordered forfeiture of performance bank guarantee worth ₹6.5 crore. Over the last two weeks, two hydro projects have also been cancelled for delayed implementation. The Naidu-led administration has now sought updated implementation status and timelines from all renewable projects allotted in the state, covering over 60 GW of capacity. This forms part of a broader audit aimed at unlocking stalled green energy potential in Andhra Pradesh. Sources said projects with an investment worth ₹4 lakh crore are under scrutiny. These include big players like Axis Energy, Suzlon Energy , Indosol and Ecoren. According to sources, close to 36 project sites have been allotted to three investors with no progress on ground. Indosol has been allotted 1.52 lakh acres of land to develop 3000 MW project, Ecoren has been allotted 4.35 lakh acres to develop 3500 MW capacity at six locations and Axis has 15.13 lakh acres of land to develop 12,000 MW capacity at different locations. Sources indicated that the government is serious about taking action against those sitting on solar and wind resources and action against Sreeja Infrastructure is to signal that failure to commence work immediately would result in cancellation and penalties. "This is not just about enforcing deadlines. This is about reclaiming credibility, land, and clean energy targets," said an official adding, "Valuable wind zones are being locked up by companies that are not acting. In a resource-constrained geography like ours, we can't afford such strategic delays." Unlike government land leases, Sreeja's project is slated to be built on private land, but the government had already earmarked exclusive wind coordinates for the project, effectively blocking any other renewable developer from using the site. With limited high-velocity wind zones in Andhra Pradesh, these land-coordinate allocations are prized assets. For Naidu, who returned to power with a strong development agenda, the message is clear - land is not to be hoarded, and renewable energy, once allotted, must translate into megawatts on the grid. The government has set a target of 160 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

CPI backs protest against transfer of APSRTC land to Lulu group
VIJAYAWADA: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna has called on citizens to unite in opposing the transfer of public lands to private entities, particularly the lease of the APSRTC old bus stand (Governorpet depot) in Vijayawada to the Lulu Group. Speaking at a roundtable meeting held at Dasari Bhavan under the CPI city committee's leadership, Ramakrishna extended CPI's support to the Citizens' Forum protest scheduled for August 6. He criticised the State government's decision to lease 4.15 acres of the Vijayawada bus stand, valued at approximately Rs 400 crore in the open market, and 13.7 acres in Visakhapatnam to the multinational company for 99 years at a nominal rate. Ramakrishna demanded the immediate withdrawal of G.O. No. 137, calling the move exploitative and questioning the government's motives in transferring public assets to private players. Former Mayor Jandhyala Shankar said the lease violated Supreme Court rulings and must be reversed. YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu, CPM's Donepudi Kashinath, and Congress city president Naraharisetti Narasimharao warned that the move could damage small businesses, increase unemployment, and cause environmental and traffic issues. The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution demanding a halt to the land transfers and prioritising local business, environmental protection, and public interests over corporate expansion.
