The Hong Kong official in charge of the coordinating office for the National Games on Friday said preparations for the upcoming event are in the final stage.
It's the first time that the Hong Kong and Macau SARs are taking part in co-hosting the nation's biggest sporting extravaganza, which takes place every four years.
Themed events are planned for this weekend across the Greater Bay Area to mark the 100-day countdown to the Games, which commence on November 9.
Speaking on RTHK's Backchat programme, Yeung Tak-keung, Head of the National Games Coordination Office in Hong Kong, said lots of work has been put into preparing for the event.
"We started organising the Games almost two years back. During the past two years we had a lot of liaison and coordination with our counterparts in Guangdong and Macau...we are very confident we can put up a good event in Hong Kong," Yeung said.
"A lot of logistics [issues were worked out], not only the competition events themselves, we also organised the transport, hotels, accommodation, catering and many other things."
There will be a total of 34 sporting events featured at the National Games. Hong Kong will stage eight of them.
Yeung stressed that the venues and infrastructure in Hong Kong are ready for the Games, especially after all the events that have been held in the city in the past year.
He also noted that the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the Special Olympic Games will be held in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau from December 8.

Hong Kong rugby star pledges to overcome shock of third knee injury

Rosie Wright has vowed to fight tooth and nail for her international rugby career, after 'excruciating' surgery to repair a third tear of her left anterior cruciate ligament. Advertisement Hong Kong sevens player Wright had been feeling 'better than ever' before she suffered the knee injury in April that has ruled her out of this year's National Games. 'My foot got stuck under the person tackling me, then somebody hit me from above, and my body and knee twisted,' said Wright, who had surgery at London's Fortius Clinic last week. After hoping she had sustained only a meniscus tear, Wright's 'heart sank' when scans revealed the true picture. 'My physio was with me … we couldn't speak,' she said. 'I felt disbelief and shock. The first two weeks were brutal.' The 28-year-old first tore her ACL in August 2023, shortly before Hong Kong's women claimed Asian Games bronze.

‘No limit' on how many Hong Kong teams can enter National Games, top official says

The saga surrounding the decision over which Hong Kong teams could compete at the National Games has been completely resolved, top government officials revealed on Saturday. Manda Chan Wing-man, director of Leisure and Cultural Services, said new criteria had been 'agreed and passed', adding that local National Sports Associations were now satisfied with the changes. A row had previously broken out over the decision by the city's organising committee that only sports whose teams finished in the top eight at either the Paris Olympics last year or the Asian Games in 2023 could enter multiple sides in team events not being staged in Hong Kong. 'There is no longer a requirement for the sport to have reached the top eight,' Chan said. 'The NSAs are all very satisfied now. They will now put their teams forward according to [China's] arrangements and timeline.' Speaking to the Post after the 100-day National Games countdown ceremony at the Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O, Chan also confirmed there was 'no limit' on the number of teams for each sport. Manda Chan said local National Sports Associations were satisfied. Photo: Dickson Lee 'The Games is a national event, so obviously we want athletes with high standards to participate,' she said. 'The NSAs had spoken, and we were quick to respond.
