Medals for Guernsey on final day of Island Games

Yahoo18-07-2025
Guernsey's Alex Tapp and David Trebert have won silver in badminton's men's doubles at the 2025 Island Games.
The duo, who reached the last 16 two years ago on home soil, had not dropped a game on their way to the final.
But they could not find a way past Faroe Islands' top seeds Magnus Dal-Christiansen and Runi Oster as they were beaten 21-11, 21-12 in the final.
"We believed we had an outside chance of getting a medal - the final might have bene pushing it a little bit far," Trebert told BBC Guernsey.
"But had we performed at our best in the final we might have had a better chance of winning the gold."
Having been seeded outside the top four the Guernsey duo had to overcome Faroes' third seeds Jonas Djurhuus and Asbjorn Heide Olsen in the quarter finals.
They thenh went on to defeat Menorca's second seeds Albert Navarro Comes and Carlos Riudavets Sintes in the semi finals.
"We came into these games as a five to eight seed, and having looked at the draw we thought if we could play at our best level there was a chance," added Tapp.
"Did I think we would get a silver medal? No probably not, but to have knocked out the number two seeds on the way here we can't really complain with that."

He appeared in the final three games of last season, carrying the ball five times for 12 yards. He has his work cut out for himself trying to make this roster with Ashton Jeanty, Raheem Mostert, Sincere McCormick, and Zamir White all ahead of him on the depth chart. Who wore it best: RB Hewritt Dixon Yesterday, honorable mention for the number 36 was Clem Daniels. He was the first great Raiders back. And he handed the baton to Dixon to run with. We hit 36 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

We've reached 36 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 36 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 36 Who's wearing it now: CB Kyu Blu Kelly A fifth round pick in 2023, Kelly has already had quite an NFL journey. He didn't make the roster with the Ravens who drafted him. Then he was claimed three times that season, first by the Seahawks, then waived and claimed by the Packers, then waived and claimed by the Commanders. Then after spending camp in Washington, he failed to make their roster and was signed to the Raiders practice squad. He would be elevated to the active roster twice last season before being signed to the roster for the final two games of the season. Now he's back for his third NFL training camp trying to keep from being on the cutting room floor come the 53-man roster decision in a few weeks. Who wore it best: CB Terry McDaniel McDaniel was selected ninth overall by the Raiders in the 1988 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. An injury ended his rookie season after just two games, but after that he was the picture of dependability for nine years, including eight straight seasons without missing a game. He made five Pro Bowls from 1992-96 and was twice a second team All Pro. He finished with 34 interceptions in a Raiders uniform. McDaniels holds franchise records for most defensive TD's (7), TD's off interceptions (5), defensive TD's in a season (3) most seasons leading the team in interceptions (6), consecutive seasons leading the team in interceptions (5), and interceptions in a game (3). His 34 career interceptions is third most in Raiders history, he has the second most interception yards (624), Honorable Mention: RB Clem Daniels The first great Raiders running back. A four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All AFL performer and the feature back on the Raiders Super Bowl II squad. A back from a different era, he average what at the time was a very impressive 875 yards per season from 1962-66 including a league-leading 1099 yards in 1963. He is one of just three Raiders backs to every lead the league in rushing along with Marcus Allen and Josh Jacobs. He is second behind only Marcus Allen in seasons leading the team in rushing (6) and 100-yard games (15) and is third in franchise history in career rushing yards (5103). And his career 4.5 yards per carry is fourth in franchise history (minimum 750 carries).

Guernsey FC force FA Cup replay after Bedfont Sports draw

Guernsey FC will travel to Bedfont Sports in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday after the two sides drew 1-1 in their extra preliminary round tie. Seb Vance missed a headed chance after 17 minutes for the hosts, while five minutes later Bedfont's Jake Woods hit the post with a free kick. Simon Arnold hit the side netting for Guernsey five minutes into the second half. But the deadlock was finally broken with 18 minutes left as Bedfont's Jude Jakes-McKay fired his side in front with a low effort. But Guernsey's record goalscorer Ross Allen levelled five minutes later as he deftly turned home Brandon Wallace's cross to send the tie to a replay. The two sides will meet at the Bedfont Recreation Ground on Tuesday night as Guernsey aim to progress in the FA Cup after returning to the tournament for the first time in eight years.
