North GA man charged with capital murder after man found shot crashes into home
Christopher Brayden Jones, 23, of Calhoun is currently being held in the Gordon County Jail on an unrelated drug charge. He will be extradited to DeKalb County, Alabama to face charges in the death of Marcus Adam Battles, 39.

Investigators say they were called to a home in Mentone, Alabama on April 10 after Battles crashed his car into a home. The 911 caller reported that Battles had also been shot. He was pronounced dead at the home.
Sheriff Nick Welden said his office spent weeks trying to identify a suspect in Battles' death and ultimately identified Jones as the shooter.
'Maybe now the Battles family can have some ease to a terrible pain that started 21 days ago, that took a loved one and left an entire community with a huge question of WHY!' Welden wrote in a statement.

Louisiana police chief still on job despite indictment, wife's arrest in visa fraud case: report
Oakdale Police Chief Chad Doyle. (City of Oakdale) One of four Central Louisiana law enforcement leaders arrested this week for their alleged involvement in an immigration fraud scheme is still on the job, our news partners at KPLC-TV report. Oakdale Police Chief Chad Doyle has not submitted his resignation, according to city officials . He is alleged to have created false police reports for Chandrakant 'Lala' Patel, a local businessman who federal investigators said paid police $5,000 for each foreign national they would add to the reports as a crime victim. That status would make them eligible for a U-visa, which are available to immigrants who are victims of crime or can assist in the prosecutions of criminals. Along with Doyle, an indictment from the U.S. attorney for Louisiana's Western District implicates Oakdale City Marshal Michael Slaney, Forest Hill Police Chief Glynn Dixon and Glenmora Police Chief Tebo Onishea in the scheme that prosecutors say put U-visas in the hands of 25 immigrants. Louisiana State Police have also arrested Alison Doyle, the police chief's wife and an Oakdale city employee, charging her with two felony counts of malfeasance in office. It stemmed from an investigation into 'unethical conduct in the municipal property bidding process.' In a social media post, state police said they obtained information from federal investigators involved in the Patel investigation. It revealed that Alison Doyle reportedly conspired with Patel to 'manipulate the bidding process for two city-owned properties.' Alison Doyle is not mentioned in the federal indictment, which includes a sizable list of personal property, bank accounts and vehicles belonging to the five defendants that are eligible for forfeiture should they be tied to the offenses detailed. According to KPLC, Alison Doyle left her job with the city in May. The police chief has not responded to calls from the station. Iranian LSU students released after ‘ruse' arrest
July 18 (UPI) -- Two Iranian graduate students in Louisiana have been released from U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement custody after lawyers took issue with ICE agents using a "ruse" to "lure" them outside to be arrested. The couple was released this week and all proceedings against them dropped after their lawyers and the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the procedure surrounding the June 22 arrest at an off-campus apartment in Baton Rouge, La. ICE agents convinced Pouria Pourhosseinhendabad and Parisa Firouzabadi they were there to speak to the mechanical engineering students about a hit-and-run reported the two had reported weeks earlier. When the married couple stepped outside to show police their vehicle, they were taken into custody and later challenged the detention in immigration court. Pourhosseinhendabad and Firouzabadi are both doctoral students at Louisiana State University, having arrived in the United States in 2023. Both are legally allowed to remain in the country, although Firouzabadi's student visa was not formally renewed. "There's a significant problem with how the two of them were arrested, because there were no exigent circumstances that required any type of Ruse," ACLU of Louisiana Legal Director Nora Ahmed told WBRZ-TV in an interview. Ahmed said ICE agents at the time came only with an administrative warrant that does not require a person to permit law enforcement entry into a dwelling. She said the federal officials could easily have obtained the necessary judicial warrant that would have made the arrest permissible. "So, it appears that there was some type of desire not to get that judicial warrant to enter the home, but they could have done that because there were no exigent circumstances that required them to enter the home," Ahmen said. Pourhosseinhendabad and Firouzabadi were arrested after an anonymous tip to ICE, The Illuminator reported. Court documents uploaded weeks after the arrest show the reason for the detention as visa-related, noting that Firouzabadi was deportable because of a lack of renewal. Pourhosseinhendabad's visa remains current. The two were held in separate detention centers in Mississippi. The arrest came a day after U.S. warplanes attacked three Iranian military sites linked to enriched uranium. Days later, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and the Department of Homeland Security warned of a "heightened threat environment" because of the attacks on Iran. "There's still a visa revocation charge on her (Firouzabadi) updated document, but we no longer see any suggestion of espionage or sabotage," Ahmed told WBRZ-TV. "That's also deeply concerning because it would suggest that there was bombing, arrest, an attempt at justification, and then a review as to whether those charges could stand, and then a retraction of that, but it takes days for any of that to occur." Beyoncé's Unreleased Music Files, Tour Materials Stolen Before Atlanta ‘Cowboy Carter' Show
Beyoncé's unreleased music may have fallen into the wrong hands as a vehicle was robbed before the Atlanta stop of her Cowboy Carter Tour. The break-in was reported by Bey's choreographer and one of her dancers, who said thieves broke into their SUV and stole several items. The perpetrators took two suitcases, jump drives containing unreleased music, footage plans for the Houston superstar's show, past and future set lists, and more, per WSB-TV. According to local police, the incident happened around 8 p.m. on July 8, 2025, inside a parking deck at 44 Krog Street NE. This places the event just 48 hours prior to the mother of three kicking off her ATL shows. A reporter for the outlet learned Monday evening (July 14) that an arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect. Christopher Grant and Diandre Blue reported the crime to the authorities. They said someone broke in through the back lift gate and robbed their rental black Jeep Wagoneer while it was stationed in a parking deck around 8:09 p.m. Detectives confirmed to WSB-TV that the break-in was captured on surveillance cameras, and the scene was dusted for fingerprints. No suspects have been identified. 'Mr. Grant advised he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé,' an officer wrote in the incident report.'He advised he was her choreographer and Mr. Diandre Blue was a dancer for her and that her hard drives for her upcoming show in Atlanta were stolen also. The hard drives contained water marked music, some un-released music, footage plans for the show and past and future set lists,' the officer added in the police report. Other members of Bey's team reported clothes, designer sunglasses, laptops, and a pair of AirPods Max headphones were stolen from the vehicle as well. Additionally, Bey's Atlanta show made headlines due to a rare moment with husband JAY-Z on stage. Hov made his second Cowboy Carter Tour appearance in Atlanta on Sunday (July 13), where they performed 'Crazy In Love' together and the NYC rapper treated fans to a rendition of 'Public Service Announcement.'
