Austrian Grand PrixVenue: Red Bull Ring, Spielberg Date: 29 June Race start: 14:00 BSTCoverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live; live text updates on BBC Sport website and app
Lewis Hamilton said Ferrari's second and fourth places on the grid at the Austrian Grand Prix were a "fantastic result".Hamilton qualified fourth with team-mate Charles Leclerc second at the Red Bull Ring. It matched their best result in a grand prix qualifying session this season, which was in Monaco. It came after Ferrari introduced a new floor, their first car upgrade since the Bahrain race in April."The team have worked hard back in the factory to bring us a new floor this weekend," Hamilton said.
"For us to be much closer and be on the second row, and for Charles who is on the front row, I think that's really fantastic."Hamilton, who was just 0.09 seconds slower than Leclerc, said he believed he could have qualified second had he optimised his final lap.The seven-time champion said: "My last lap wasn't perfect, I think that could have been, if I had finished that, would have been second."So there's lots of positives to take out from that session. Also I think it has been the best day, operationally, particularly through qualifying, how the team operated, just timings, the information we are getting in terms of traffic and positionings on track, it was the best, it was proper world class. That is what we are working towards."Ferrari's improved performance comes in the wake of criticism in the Italian media in recent weeks - two influential newspapers wrote articles questioning Frederic Vasseur's position as team principal.Hamilton appeared to be referencing this when he said: "Ultimately, we continue to work together, protect each other, block out all the noise and just keep our heads down."It's an incredible team. We're working, and I'm working with Fred, we're working to put all the pieces of the puzzle in the right place, step by step."It can't be done in one go. Just got to keep working at it. I'm really happy with the progress we are making."Leclerc said: "Very happy to be second. It's been a very difficult season for us qualifying-wise."We've always been fighting for P5, P6 in best cases, apart from Monaco. That was a one-off. So, it's good to be starting a little bit further up, and to be straight away with the fast guys, straight from the start."Leclerc said the first signs from the new floor were positive but that it would take time to be sure of its influence."It definitely helped us," he said. "I felt like there were some steps forward. How much, we need to see it in different characteristics of tracks."It's not only on this track that we've got to judge that, but over multiple tracks."However, the numbers that we expected, we had them, which is a good start. That means that we are working in the right direction."

Lewis Hamilton gets new boss as Ferrari release Austrian GP statement
Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur will miss this Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix due to personal reasons with his deputy Jerome d'Ambrosio taking charge as Charles Leclerc lines up in second Ferrari will have a new face calling the shots at this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix with Jerome d'Ambrosio stepping up to replace Fred Vasseur. D'Ambrosio serves as the deputy team principal but will be the man in the hot seat at the Red Bull Ring. Vasseur would usually oversee race days but the Italian team have put out a statement explaining that he will not be present in Spielberg. A team statement read: 'Fred will not be at the track today, because he has had to return home for personal reasons. Deputy Team Principal, Jerome d'Ambrosio will stand in for him.' The 39-year-old Belgian previously raced in Formula 1 for the likes of Lotus back in 2011 and 2012. He's since retired and has become a senior figure within Ferrari. As well as his current role he is also the head of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Now he will be tasked with masterminding the team's first race win of the season. Other that their sprint victory in China several months ago the Italian team have not taken the top step of the podium but will have Charles Leclerc lining up in second with Lewis Hamilton back in fourth. It gives them the opportunity to fight with the two McLarens. Lando Norris in on pole position with championship leader Oscar Piastri back in third. Ferrari are currently third in the teams' standings, behind McLaren and Mercedes. Hamilton has, so far, struggled to adapt to his new team. He's yet to stand on the podium on a Sunday with a fourth at Imola his best result so far. Leclerc has been more competitive, finishing third twice and second at his home race in Monaco, and he's confident about their prospects after making some positive changes in Austria. He said: "I'm very pleased. It's been a long time since we started on the front row. It's been a difficult season overall but the team have kept pushing. We've brought some new parts this weekend, which for sure made a difference because the gaps are super close. "I'm very happy with the lap. It's a good start to the weekend. We know that we have a better car normally in the race than qualifying, so I hope we can put a bit more pressure on McLaren tomorrow." Hamilton meanwhile was full of praise for the team as he said: I think it's been the best day operationally, particularly through qualifying. Just timings, the information we're getting in terms of traffic and positioning on track, I think was really the best and proper world-class."

Austrian GP follows Miami in extending F1 contract to 2041
SPIELBERG, Austria, June 29 (Reuters) - The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring will stay on the calendar through 2041 after announcing on Sunday a contract extension that equals Miami as the longest in Formula One. The current deal, last extended two years ago, ran to 2030. The circuit in Spielberg is owned by the Austrian energy drinks company that owns Red Bull Racing, and has Dutch four times world champion Max Verstappen as their star driver, and Italy-based Racing Bulls. Miami agreed a 10-year extension to 2041 last month. Behind them, Bahrain has a deal to 2036, Melbourne to 2035, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to at least 2032. "Austria has long been an incredibly special race for Formula One so it's fantastic we have secured the long-term future of a Grand Prix so deeply rooted in the sport's history," said Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali. Verstappen has won a record five times in Spielberg, a 4.3km circuit known for its picturesque backdrop and undulating layout. The late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, whose son Mark is now at the helm, invested heavily in renovating the circuit. "I am delighted that Formula One will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come. I am proud to continue my father's legacy," he said.
