Jumia Egypt and Intella Launch Groundbreaking Voice Ordering Experience in Egyptian Dialect via Ziila for E-commerce
During a special event held yesterday and attended by prominent figures from Egypt's tech sector, Jumia Egypt, a leading e-commerce platform in Africa, announced its strategic partnership with Intella, a company specialized in Arabic AI (artificial intelligence) technologies, to launch a new and innovative experience: voice ordering through the intelligent assistant Ziila, using the Egyptian dialect.
Attendees witnessed the first live demonstration of this new product, with Abdellatif Olama, CEO of Jumia Egypt, placing the very first voice order using Ziila in front of all guests, affirming the product's readiness to become an integral part of the everyday user experience.
Through this partnership, Jumia users can now browse and order products using voice commands, eliminating the need for typing or manual search. Ziila stands out for its ability to understand natural, spoken language as used in daily conversations, offering a smooth and intuitive experience by supporting voice input in the Egyptian dialect.
The technology allows users to interact with the platform as if they were simply sending a voice note, without needing to browse or type. This approach appeals to a wide segment of users who prefer speaking over navigating or typing, making the shopping experience feel more natural, seamless, and accessible.
This initiative reflects Jumia's ongoing commitment to introducing advanced tech-driven solutions that simplify shopping and improve everyday life, aligning with the company's mission across the African continent.

UNESCO, Morocco Launch $6M Africa Development Deal

According to a statement by UM6P, the agreement—signed by Mostafa Terrab, Chairman of the OCP Group, and Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO—seeks to reinforce an alliance based on shared ambitions to address the pressing challenges facing the African continent. Integrated Approach to Education, Science, and Culture The initiative emphasizes cross-sector collaboration by integrating education, science, technology, and cultural heritage as interlinked drivers of sovereign, inclusive, and sustainable development. The program will be jointly implemented by UM6P and UNESCO, with strategic and financial backing from the OCP Foundation. The three parties have collaborated since 2017, driven by shared values including long-term investment in knowledge systems, the transformative role of higher education, and locally rooted innovation. The agreement is built around five complementary thematic pillars, each governed by a separate agreement. This modular structure allows for tailored governance models, timelines, and implementation mechanisms suited to the specific topic areas. IMF Predicts Egypt to Generate $3 Billion from Asset Sales in 2024/25
Taarek Refaat The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecasted that Egypt will generate approximately $3 billion in revenue from asset sales during the fiscal year 2024-25. This comes as part of the country's ongoing economic reform program, which is being carried out in collaboration with the IMF. The Egyptian government has been implementing measures aimed at reducing the state's role in the economy and fostering greater participation from the private sector. These steps have included a series of state-owned asset sales, designed to unlock value, attract both local and foreign investment, and reduce public debt. According to the IMF's projections, Egypt is expected to generate $3.6 billion from asset sales in the 2024-25 fiscal year. However, this figure is anticipated to decline in subsequent years, with $3 billion expected for 2025-26, and further down to $2.1 billion in 2026-27. This steady decline reflects the limited pool of state-owned assets left for sale, as the government has already offloaded a significant portion of its holdings in recent years. Concerns also persist about the social impact of such privatization efforts, particularly regarding jobs and service provision. On the other hand, proponents of the strategy argue that moving assets into private hands will help modernize Egypt's economy, create jobs, and promote growth by boosting foreign investment and improving efficiency.
