Palestinian Medical Relief Society: Gaza is experiencing full-blown famine

Gaza - Saba: Dr. Mohammed Abu Afash, director of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society in Gaza City, confirmed that Gaza is experiencing a "full-blown famine" according to United Nations standards, after exceeding three basic indicators. He warned of a "mass death" threatening women and children. Abu Afash listed these criteria to the Palestine Online website yesterday: severe food insecurity, high rates of malnutrition, and a rising death rate associated with hunger, which is killing 2.4 million people. He explained that more than 90% of Gaza's population cannot secure a balanced meal per day, while hundreds of thousands of families survive on one meal every 48 hours, often consisting of flour, boiled water, or cooked leaves. He also addressed the collapse of supply chains (agricultural, livestock, and food) and their lack in local markets, along with the lack of electricity and potable water. Al-Afash explained the impact of the ongoing famine, which has lasted for 150 days, on children in Gaza, who suffer from severe malnutrition, weakened immunity, dehydration, and a high death rate among infants and the elderly due to direct starvation or related diseases. Not only children, but pregnant women also lack adequate nutrition, leading to miscarriages, premature births, and low-birth-weight babies. According to government data, the number of victims of the famine has risen to 154, including 89 children. He reported that more than 55,000 pregnant women and more than 60,000 infants are living without adequate nutrition or healthcare due to the famine and the occupation's prevention of the entry of health supplies and nutritional requirements for children. He explained that this has clearly affected the condition of newborns and infants, including severe underweight and underweight for their age, severe dehydration, especially in displacement areas, chronic diarrhea and vitamin deficiencies, the spread of skin rashes and respiratory infections, and the inability of many mothers to breastfeed due to malnutrition. Since March 2, the Israeli enemy army has imposed a strict military siege on all crossings and outlets of the Gaza Strip. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

Palestinian Civil Society Organizations Invite Witkoff to Visit Gaza Hospitals

Gaza - Saba: Palestinian civil society organizations have invited US envoy Steve Witkoff to visit hospitals in Gaza, which have partially resumed operations after their destruction. These hospitals are overcrowded with starving patients. In a letter sent to the US envoy on Friday, the organizations explained that hospitals are suffering from a severe shortage of medicines, health supplies, and medical and technical staff. They called on Witkoff to visit sewage plants and water wells, which the enemy has not allowed to operate, given its deliberate policy of spreading disease and epidemics, as well as depriving people of water, a historical precedent that even barbarians and Nazis would not have dared to undertake. They invited him to meet with 5,000 children who have lost limbs as a result of the bombs and missiles his administration provides to the Israeli enemy, and with tens of thousands of orphans and widows. The organizations affirmed their rejection of this visit, as long as its sole purpose is to improve the image of the enemy and to take a snapshot to change the mood of international public opinion, which has come to realize the truth that you have long tried to conceal. She noted that 1,200 Palestinian citizens have been killed in front of these centers since they began operating, by soldiers stationed in their vicinity. She said, "His visit must culminate in an announcement of the closure of these centers, which have become detention and mass killing camps. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation must then be held accountable for presenting a horrific image of the concept of food, aid, and humanity as a whole." UAE Steps Up Gaza Airdrops as Starvation Crisis Worsens

The United Arab Emirates has intensified its humanitarian operations in Gaza as the starvation crisis deepens across the besieged enclave. In partnership with Jordan, the UAE carried out coordinated airdrops delivering approximately 25 tons of food and medical supplies to civilians in areas cut off from ground access. These airdrops came alongside Israel's temporary daily ceasefire announcement, allowing a 10-hour pause in military activity across specific zones such as Gaza City and central Deir al-Balah to enable the flow of aid. Despite the efforts, challenges on the ground remain dire. Ten individuals sustained injuries after being struck by falling crates during the airdrops. Moreover, Gaza's Ministry of Health reported 38 deaths from overnight Israeli airstrikes, including 23 civilians searching for food and 17 others who had gathered at aid distribution points. The situation continues to deteriorate, with the United Nations welcoming the recent aid efforts while urging for a comprehensive ceasefire to ensure broader humanitarian access. To date, malnutrition has claimed the lives of 133 individuals, among them 87 children, painting a grim portrait of the growing crisis and the urgent need for sustained international response.
