Brazil 2025 Robusta harvest in full swing and could beat estimates, experts say

SAO PAULO, May 30 (Reuters) - Brazil's 2025 Robusta coffee crop collection, including the Conilon variety, is advancing strongly and could beat initial estimates, industry experts told Reuters this week, as the harvest weighs on prices.
"Field reports indicate strong yields, and expectations are that the crop may even exceed initial forecasts," said Jonas Ferraresso, a coffee agronomist who advises Brazilian farmers.
Public and private sources are pointing towards a record crop, Ferraresso said.
Crop collection for Cooabriel - Brazil's largest Conilon coffee cooperative - in the state of Espirito Santo is in full swing, the organization's President Luiz Carlos Bastianello said in an interview, estimating that around 25% of the total harvest had been completed.
According to broker StoneX, 23.4% of Brazil's expected 2025 Robusta crop had been harvested as of May 26.
"The expectation we have now is really for a larger harvest, possibly larger than the 2022 harvest, a harvest with reasonably good quality as well," Bastianello said, adding that production in Espirito Santo is forecast at over 17 million 60-kilogram (132.3 lb) bags.
In the 2022 harvest, some 16 million 60-kilogram bags were harvested, Bastianello said.
Unseasonable rainfall in the region during the current harvest is not an issue and could suggest a good Conilon crop in 2026, he added.
Prices for the commodity have declined as the new crop is collected, said Fernando Maximiliano, coffee market intelligence manager for broker StoneX in Brazil.
"Robusta coffee (prices) have been falling significantly in recent weeks. This is already a sign of the arrival of this new harvest," Maximiliano said.
Earlier this week, Robusta coffee futures on ICE fell to a 5-1/2 month low of $4,550 per metric ton.
The potential for a record crop is causing "significant urgency" among Robusta growers to harvest and sell, Ferraresso said.
"The concern now is how this increased supply might affect prices in the coming months."

KYIV, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The 2025 harvest of Ukraine's key commodities, wheat and corn, may be higher than expected if weather conditions are favourable, while stable export demand will encourage farmers to expand winter wheat sowings for the 2026 crop, a senior official said on Monday. Ukraine is a major global grain grower and exporter but its harvest fell sharply after Kyiv lost around a fifth of its territory due to the Russian invasion in 2022. Taras Vysotskiy, deputy economy minister, told Reuters in an interview that the 2025 wheat output forecast may be raised to 22 million tons from the current 21.2 million tons and to 28 million tons from 26.5 million tons for corn. The overall harvest could repeat the result of 2024, when 56 million tons of grain was threshed, with 22.7 million tons of wheat and 26 million tons of corn. In 2021, before the Russian invasion, Ukraine harvested 84 million tons of grain. It included 32 million tons of wheat and almost 42 million tons of corn. "Previously, the forecast was 26.5 million tons of corn for 2025, but there is potential for growth - optimistically speaking, we could see 28 million tons, provided there are no serious unforeseen circumstances," he told Reuters. The deputy minister said a higher output would allow the export of up to 40 million tons of various grains in the 2025/26 July-June season. He said that the export could include 15 to 16 million tons of wheat but some of the volume would be redirected as the European Union has imposed limits on wheat imports from Ukraine to address the concerns of its own farmers. The move cut imports to 1 million tons from 4 million which Ukraine supplied to the EU. "These three million tonnes (which Ukraine previously supplied to the EU) are not critical in terms of redirection to other markets," he said. In addition to the EU, Ukraine traditionally supplies wheat to North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Vysotskiy said that the area under winter wheat, Ukraine's key grain crop, may rise by 6.4% to 5 million hectares in 2026 thanks to high external demand and an expected reduction in the area under soybeans. Winter wheat accounts for more than 95% of the total wheat harvest in Ukraine, which exports almost two-thirds of its output and before the war ranked fifth among wheat exporters. "Considering that wheat prices are currently good for both food and feed, 5 million hectares of sown area is possible," Taras Vysotskiy, deputy economy minister, said in the first official forecast for the 2025/26 winter wheat sowing area. Ukrainian wheat export prices traditionally fall during the mass harvest, but according to the largest Ukrainian farmers' union UAC, prices have remained stable this season, fluctuating around $222-$227 per ton carriage paid to (CPT), supported by demand. UAC said last week that 3.45 million tons of Ukrainian wheat were contracted for exports in July-August.

SAO PAULO, Aug 3 (Reuters) - China has approved 183 new Brazilian coffee companies to export products to the Chinese market, according to a social media post of the Chinese embassy in Brazil on Saturday. The measure, a boon to local exporters after the United States government's announcement of steep tariffs on Brazilian coffee and other products, took effect on July 30. The new Chinese export permits are valid for five years, according to the post. The U.S.'s 50% tariff on some Brazilian products will begin on August 6. The levy represents a challenge for commodities traders and Brazilian coffee exporters, who need to find alternatives for the roughly 8 million bags sold to U.S. coffee processors every year. China is Brazil's top trade partner overall while the U.S. is a big buyer of Brazilian beef and orange juice, among other products. In June, Brazilian coffee exports into the U.S. totaled 440,034 60-kilo bags, 7,87 times more than Brazil's sales into China of nearly 56,000 bags that month, according to trade data compiled by industry lobby Cecafe. The Brazilian ministry of agriculture and Cecafe did not have an immediate comment. China's customs authority could not be immediately reached as it was outside the business hours. Brazil supplies about a third of the U.S. coffee demand each year, a trade valued at $4.4 billion in the 12 months ended in June.
