Suniel Shetty reacts to backlash, says Athiya warns him about controversial remarks

Actor Suniel Shetty, who has recently faced criticism for his remarks in multiple interviews, has admitted that his daughter Athiya Shetty often pulls him up for making controversial statements. The actor said Athiya regularly monitors his public comments and reminds him to steer clear of anything that might land him in trouble.In a new interview with Zoom, Shetty said, 'I avoid controversial questions during promotional activities. I'm the kind of person who sometimes wants to answer, and then I mess up. And then I have Athiya at home saying, 'Papa, why did you talk? Just say no comment!' She keeps reminding me not to say anything that could get us into trouble the next day. She tracks all my interviews, and honestly, that's the only person I fear. The best thing for a man to have is a baby girl in his life.'advertisementThe actor had earlier drawn backlash for saying that a husband should build his career while the wife takes care of the child. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he said, 'Marriage after a while becomes a compromise where you have to understand each other. Then a child comes into the picture, and the wife needs to understand that if the husband is building his career, she will need to take care of the child. Of course, the husband will also be involved. But these days, there is just too much pressure in everything.'
His comments were widely criticised online, with many labelling them as outdated and patriarchal.In May, Suniel was also slammed for praising his daughter Athiya for choosing natural childbirth over a C-section. He told News18, "In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery.' Many felt that his statement undermined the validity and necessity of C-sections for some women.Despite the backlash, Suniel remains active in his acting career. He currently stars in 'Hunter 2' alongside Anusha Dandekar and Jackie Shroff, streaming on MX Player. He will be seen next in 'Welcome To The Jungle', an ensemble comedy film featuring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, and others.
