Carnival Cruise Line celebrated for heroic rescue
Just a week after Carnival Paradise rescued a group of refugees from an adrift vessel near Cuba, another Carnival Cruise Line ship's crew sprang into action to make a dramatic rescue on the other side of the world.
Carnival Splendor was sailing south of New Caledonia in the South Pacific during an eight-day cruise from Sydney when the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Noumea alerted them of a distress call from a disabled catamaran carrying four people and three dogs.Carnival Splendor was five hours away from the catamaran and immediately rushed to their aid in the middle of the night, as cruise ships will always do when they learn of anyone in peril at sea.
One of the rescued couples, who feared for their lives while stranded on board the disabled catamaran, have since recounted the frightening ordeal and the cruise ship's extraordinary response, in a touching letter addressed to the entire Carnival Cruise Line crew.Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald shared the letter from rescued sailors Juli and Ivan on his popular Facebook page that's followed by more than 600,000 Carnival cruisers.
'To all the Carnival crew, we are Juli and Ivan, two Argentinians 25 years old, traveling around the world for one year. We got the opportunity of crossing from Australia to Fiji in a catamaran, a bit more than a month ago, and from what you all know, it didn't end as expected,' the letter began.
The sailors detailed how they ended up adrift at sea hundreds of miles from land.'After 8 days of crossing the ocean and having lost both engines, we were caught in a storm, which first made us think we were going to get hit by lightning and ended up breaking our mast in two after 50 knots of wind surprised us. 200 nautical miles away from New Caledonia, and this being our first passage, we were frightened to death,' they explained.
The sailors reported contacting every coast station they could, but did not receive a reply for hours until the voice of Carnival Splendor Captain Eduardo Ferrone brought them hope.
'After two hours with no news, we received a call from your captain, saying he knew about our situation and that by doubling their speed in the middle of the storm, could reach us in just five hours. That was and will [for]ever be the best notice of our lives,' the letter emphasized.'After 5 hours, hoping the catamaran didn't sink because of the mast hitting us on every wave, we received the second-best call of our lives, from your captain asking us to drop the first flare, and straight away confirming he could see us,' the letter continued.
Finally, Carnival Splendor reached them at 3 a.m., swiftly bringing them aboard the cruise ship and saving their lives.
But what Carnival crew members did for them did not end there.
'What followed was just beyond reality,' the letter continued. 'This boat and its crew not only saved us but gave us all kindness, warmth, smiles, and attention which made recovering a completely different experience and a much easier one. There are no words to thank you all for being part of this recovery and exceeding expectations. Human values on board showed us better, and for that, we will be forever thankful.'

'Special thanks to the Captain, Eduardo Ferrone, for being our guiding light in the middle of the ocean, giving us hope by making the call to save us and taking us back to land,' the emotional letter read.
The rescued sailors went on to thank many other crew members who not only made sure they were safe, but who received them with exceptional kindness and concern for their health, well-being, and happiness.
'To all of you, thanks for the warm words and treatment, this would have been a different story if it wasn't for you," they added. "We will forever be grateful to Carnival Cruise Line.'

Three people – including a child – were rescued by the Florida Coast Guard earlier this week after their sailing vessel became partially submerged near the Bahamas, according to authorities. "Our aircrews train very hard for moments like this, and we are thankful to have played a role in the safe rescue of this family of three," Lt. Andrew Boyle, a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater Jayhawk aircraft commander, said in a statement. Dramatic video footage released by the guardsmen shows the crew lifting each individual family member to safety using helicopter rescue baskets seven hours after authorities received the initial call for help. The family was subsequently transported to Bahamian authorities in Great Inagua, according to the Coast Guard. No injuries were reported and the boat's owner is coordinating with commercial salvage to organize the vessel's recovery. "We urge mariners to carry a radio and an emergency distress beacon in case they find themselves in a similar situation," Boyle added. "It could help save their lives." The U.S. Coast Guard did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Rescue after hiker was stuck on steep and rocky ground
KESWICK Mountain Rescue Team attended an incident involving a walker who found herself lost. An experienced female walker was descending from Kings How when she lost the path. She found herself stuck on steep and rocky ground between Bowder Crag and Kings How, which led her to request help. The team was called out at 3:59pm on June 28. In a Facebook post, Keswick MRT said: " The team bashed their way through the dense bracken, set up a rope rescue system and brought the walker up to safer ground. She was accompanied down to the valley to meet her partner–involving some more bracken wading." The incident took three hours, one minute to resolve, and was only attended by Keswick MRT

Houston-based mother Shannon Lindholm was a passenger on the Disney Dream and watched the rescue efforts play out in real-time, although she did not witness the initial fall nor the man's jump into the ocean. She was traveling with her husband and their two children when she and her daughter heard an unfamiliar message over the PA system announcing a Mr. MOB port-side. Around that time, they were near a fourth-floor deck, the same level the girl fell from, according to others in an unofficial Disney Dream Cruise Ship Facebook group. 'Staff members were moving fast, so we knew it was serious, and we'd never heard it before. So my daughter, pretty tech savvy, she just picked up an iPad and Googled it and said, 'Oh my God, Mom. That means man overboard,' ' Lindholm tells PEOPLE. 'And then, about that time, is when we looked out the window and saw them boarding the speedboat. So it all happened so fast,' she adds. In the moments ahead of the swift rescue, she says crew members blocked off the deck area. 'People were commenting that the ship had kind of turned around and gone back in a different direction. By that point though, the ship was completely stopped. It wasn't moving at all,' she says. Lindholm says a few crew members boarded a small rescue boat that launched from the fourth deck. Within about five minutes, she saw it returning with the father and daughter aboard. 'It was incredible. The dad was giving a huge thumbs up, signing to everybody that was watching from the upper decks,' Lindholm says. 'We could see the little girl was in one of the crew members' arms, and they hoisted the speedboat back to right where it came from, from the fourth deck, and they both walked off, and they swiftly took them away." Passengers cheered and applauded, Lindholm recalls, as the duo came aboard the ship. 'People were crying and praying and gathering with their family, you could see different groups hugging each other,' Lindholm says. 'And then the relief everyone felt when they got on board was really incredible.' She noted that a woman who appeared to be the child's mother was also present on the deck. 'They brought her over, and obviously she was extremely relieved and incredibly grateful, and it was just very quick from there,' she adds, calling the rescue 'a miracle times two.' 'I saw the mom's face of terror when she was waiting for them to be rescued, and I saw her face of relief when they brought them on board,' Lindholm says. 'My thoughts and prayers are just with her, that she gets what she needs to move forward too, because I can't imagine what those 10 minutes were like for her.' About five minutes later, Lindholm says the ship started moving again and things appeared to be back to normal, adding the captain explained over the PA system that two people had fallen overboard, but both were safe and back on the ship. She also noted that the fourth-floor deck, where the incident reportedly occurred, included plexiglass between the railing. 'It's not something you could just stumble and fall over,' she says, adding, 'I've always felt extremely safe with my children walking around.' Disney has not yet released specific details about how the child fell into the water. Lindholm says the whole ordeal lasted no more than 15 minutes. 'Before most people could even realize what was happening, the situation was over. It was so fast,' Lindholm says.
