11.8cr unpaid bills mete out shocks to discom's finances after pre-poll waiver
These "zero payment" consumers, spread across the city, collectively owe more than Rs 11.8 crore as of June 2025. These figures, sourced from internal records of the Central Discom (Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited), cover only urban consumers within Bhopal city, spread across four city divisions—East, North, South, West—and the Kolar division.
The data categorises such consumers as "zero payment" users, meaning they received the benefit of the 2023 waiver but have not cleared any subsequent bills, including monthly usage charges, since then, said sources.
The highest concentration of such defaulters is in Bhopal City North division—catering to areas of the city like Chhola, Imamigate, Sultaniya, Bairagarh, etc.—which alone has 5,241 active non-paying consumers, with total arrears crossing Rs 6.58 crore.
Bhopal East division—catering to supply in areas like Ayodhya Bypass, Karond, Bhanpur, etc.—follows with 3,877 such consumers owing Rs 3.04 crore. In Bhopal City South division—which supplies power in Arera Colony, Bhadbhada, Kotra, etc.—2,312

consumers owe Rs 1.24 crore, while 500 non-paying accounts in the West zone—which distributes energy in areas like Katara Hills, Shahpura, Shakti Nagar, etc.—are linked to Rs 15.41 lakh in unpaid bills.
The Kolar division, which supplies power in localities like Danish Kunj, Misrod, etc., accounts for 1,765 zero-payment cases, with dues of Rs 84.52 lakh.
Senior officials said that these are only consumers who are still considered active—meaning they continue to draw electricity but have not made any payment.
An additional 431 inactive connections, with dues of nearly Rs 1 crore, are also recorded, many of which may have been disconnected due to non-payment, said sources.
The situation is particularly concerning for Central Discom, which already reported the highest share of unpaid bills across the state—Rs 10,179 crore as of June 2025, as reported by TOI earlier. Of this, Rs 5,910 crore is from domestic consumers. The Bill Mafi Yojana, announced in September 2023 ahead of the assembly elections, suspended dues of lakhs of low-consumption domestic consumers.
However, officials now admit that the scheme triggered a behavioural shift, with many consumers assuming future bills would also be waived.
"We are seeing a pattern where consumers who received benefit under the 2023 scheme have made no effort to resume payment," said sources. "This has complicated recovery efforts and added pressure on discom finances," added sources. Discom sources said along with appeal and persuasion, strict action like disconnection and legal action is also being taken to recover dues from these consumers.

Rajiv Anand to help realise full potential of IndusInd Bank, says promoter Ashok Hinduja
Synopsis IndusInd Bank promoter Ashok Hinduja has extended full support to newly appointed CEO Rajiv Anand, who will assume charge on August 25. Anand's appointment follows leadership exits and financial setbacks, including a ₹2,329 crore loss in Q4. Hinduja praised the RBI for its swift approval. The bank expects Anand to unveil a long-term strategy as it moves past past issues. Agencies IndusInd Bank promoter Ashok Hinduja on Tuesday said the lender's newly appointed chief executive and managing director, Rajiv Anand, will help realise the full potential of the bank. The promoter grouping will offer "full support" to Anand, Hinduja said. "As the promoter of IndusInd Bank, we offer full support and wish him all success," he said in a statement that comes after the announcement of Anand as the candidate to lead the troubled lender. Several senior executives in IndusInd Bank, including the CEO Sumant Kathpalia, resigned over the last few months, necessitating the new appointment. The bank, which is under an interim management, has owned up to fraud, under-reporting of non-performing assets and other drawbacks, which led it to post a Rs 2,329 crore loss for the March quarter. After it swung back to black in the June quarter, the interim management has assured that there are no problems from the past which are yet to be recognized, and added that the new CEO will come out with a detailed strategy on the medium to long term strategies once he or she joins. "I compliment the regulator for the expeditious approval of the appointment of Rajiv Anand as the MD and CEO at Indusind Bank," Hinduja said. The IndusInd board, basis approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), at its meeting held on August 4 approved the appointment of Rajiv Anand as 'Additional Director' in the category of Managing Director and CEO and Key Managerial Personnel of the bank for three years, IndusInd Bank said in a late evening regulatory filing on Monday. Anand's appointment is for three years, and will be taking over the reins at the troubled lender on August 25. It can be noted that a few years ago, the bank's promoter had received the RBI nod to raise its stake in the bank to 26 per cent from the present level of around 15 per cent. The bank scrip closed 1.90 per cent up at Rs 819.20 a shares on the BSE on Tuesday, as against a 0.38 per cent correction on the benchmark. PTI

Tesla To Open Delhi Showroom On August 11; Check Exact Location
Tesla, the US-based electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to open its second showroom in Delhi on August 11. It follows the inaugural showroom of the brand in India opened in Mumbai's BKC on July 15. The latest dealership of the brand will be located at Worldmark, Aerocity, close to the New Delhi International Airport. Once it begins operations, the carmaker will be able to serve consumers in Delhi and the national capital region. The Tesla Model Y was recently launched in the Indian market. On the same day, the official Indian website for the automaker went live. Initially, customers could only register their vehicles in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Gurugram. However, this has been updated, allowing users to register their cars in any state or union territory across the nation. In simpler terms, prospective buyers can now book and register their Tesla vehicles in their states. Moreover, the website mentions that the on-road prices may differ due to various factors. It also highlights that customers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram will have priority for deliveries. Once the process is complete, the vehicle will be delivered directly to the consumer's location via a flat-bed truck. Although self-driving features can be obtained in India for Rs 6 lakh, this capability will be rolled out at a later time. The manufacturer has released both RWD (rear-wheel drive) and long-range RWD versions of the car in India. The entry price for the RWD model is Rs 59.89 lakh, while the long-range version is available for Rs 67.89 lakh. Consequently, the on-road cost for the RWD variant totals Rs 61.07 lakh, whereas the on-road price for the long-range version is Rs 69.15 lakh. In India, the rear-wheel drive version of the Tesla Model Y can be opted for with either a 60 kWh or a larger 75 kWh battery pack. The RWD variant features a single electric motor that produces around 295 hp. Furthermore, the 60 kWh battery is claimed to provide a WLTP range of 500 km when fully charged, while the long-range model is said to achieve a range of 622 km.
