Sonam set to attend Wimbledon Gentlemen's Finals in London
Bollywood fashionista Sonam Kapoor has joined the list of celebrities such as Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli and Priyanka Chopra, as she too is set to attend Wimbledon Gentlemen's Finals in London. Sonam will be seen gracing the tournament this weekend. A source said: 'Sonam Kapoor has been a part of the tournament for years now. This will be her fourth Wimbledon appearance and she's got a special outfit in store for the highly-anticipated game.' 'The actress is currently in London, enjoying some family time with husband Anand Ahuja and their son, Vayu, so it comes as no surprise that she's going to be making her way to the game this weekend,' added the source. Last month, Sonam celebrated seven years of Ranbir Kapoor's 'Sanju'. To mark the milestone, she took to her Instagram Stories to share a special memory. She posted a video featuring one of her scenes with Ranbir Kapoor from the film, blending it with behind-the-scenes glimpses from the set. 'Sanju,' directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani, was co-written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. The movie explored the turbulent life of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, shedding light on his battle with drug addiction, his arrest in connection with the 1993 Bombay bombings, his bond with his father, and his journey in the film industry. Ranbir Kapoor played the titular role alongside actors Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, and Jim Sarbh. Sonam made her comeback to the screen with the 2023 crime thriller 'Blind', in which she portrayed a visually impaired ex-police officer. The film marked her return to acting following a break she took after welcoming her son, Vayu, in 2022. Directed by Shome Makhija, the thriller also starred Shubham Saraf, Danesh Razvi, Purab Kohli, Vinay Pathak, Lillete Dubey, and Javed Khan in key roles. 'Blind,'was a remake of the 2011 South Korean film of the same name, originally featuring Yoo Seung-ho and Kim Ha-neul in lead roles. Kapoor, the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, began her career as an assistant director on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2005 film Black. She made her acting debut in Bhansali's romantic drama Saawariya (2007), a box office flop, and had her first commercial success with the romantic comedy I Hate Luv Storys (2010). This was followed by a series of commercial failures and repetitive roles, which garnered her negative reviews. The 2013 box office hit Raanjhanaa marked a turning point in Kapoor's career, garnering her praise and Best Actress nominations at several award ceremonies. Kapoor had her biggest commercial successes with supporting roles in the biopics Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) and Sanju (2018), and a leading role in the romance Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015); the last two rank among the highest-grossing Bollywood films. Antique collector buys Turner's painting for £400 and sells it for £1.9 million
An antique collector made a huge profit after buying an oil painting for £400 and selling it for £1.9 million. He later discovered it was a lost work by the famous British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner. The late 18th-century painting, depicting a spa scene in Bristol, was sold at auction by Sotheby's in London for £1.9 million, nearly eight times its estimated value. The painting, initially attributed to another artist, Julius Caesar Ibbetson, was carefully cleaned and experts discovered Turner's signature. This discovery surprised scholars, who confirmed that the painting dates back to 1792, when Turner was 17 years old. Just three years before this painting's date, it was believed that Turner's earliest known work dated 1795. The sale of the painting coincided with Turner's 250th birthday, adding an extra historical dimension to the discovery. Further research established that the painting was inspired by a direct drawing by Turner found in his sketchbook, which he made during a trip to the West of England in 1791. The painting first appeared at the Royal Academy in 1793, then passed through several private hands and dealers before disappearing from the art world for 150 years. After appearing at Sotheby's last year, it attracted four bidders, reaching a price of £1.9 million, in one of the most exciting stories in the art world.

'Wimbledon towel thief' Iga Swiatek says this one's for keeps
During the Wimbledon fortnight, a grinning Iga Swiatek was often caught on camera cramming dozens of official towels into her tennis bags, creating a running joke that "Wimbledon's towel thief strikes again!" On Saturday, the All England Club marked her fondness with a perfectly fitting tribute. After dismantling Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes to claim her maiden Wimbledon title, Swiatek was presented with a personalised purple and green towel embroidered with the words: Property of Iga Swiatek, Wimbledon Champion. 'This one's for keeps,' read the tournament's post on X, accompanied by a picture of a beaming Swiatek holding her trophy and new prized possession. Swiatek had joked earlier in the tournament that players' love of Grand Slam towels was a quiet obsession. 'It's a topic no one ever talks about,' she said. 'Every time I come back from a Slam I have like 10 friends and 10 family members wanting towels. So, sorry guys. Sorry Wimbledon. I don't know if I'm supposed to do that.' The 24-year-old Pole now has one she will never have to sneak away with. And she earned it in style. Already a US Open and four-time French Open champion, Swiatek's stunning Centre Court performance made her the youngest woman since Serena Williams in 2002 to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces. She is also the first player since Monica Seles in 1992 to win her first six major finals. 'It's something surreal,' Swiatek said after lifting the Venus Rosewater Dish. 'Tennis keeps surprising me and I keep surprising myself. From the first day we stepped on grass, we just worked hard without expectation. I'm just happy.' Her opponent, 13th-seed Anisimova, was left shell-shocked. The American had made an emotional run to her first Slam final but found herself overwhelmed by Swiatek's precision and power. The defeat marked the first time since 1911 that a woman had lost a Wimbledon final 6-0, 6-0, and the first such scoreline in any major final since Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva in the 1988 French Open. Anisimova began the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own over Yulia Putintseva but admitted she ran out of gas in the final. 'I didn't have enough today,' she said, holding back tears. 'But I'll keep working and I believe in myself. I hope to be back again one day.' Poland erupted in celebration. President Andrzej Duda hailed the win as 'history not just for Polish sport, but for Polish pride,' while Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted a photo of himself watching Swiatek's interview with a bowl of pasta and strawberries – her chosen Wimbledon cheat meal. The victory, Swiatek's 100th in just 120 Grand Slam matches, also dashed hopes of an 'American Slam' sweep in 2024, after Madison Keys and Coco Gauff had won in Australia and Paris, respectively. Among those cheering her on was Friends actress Courteney Cox, who embraced Swiatek post-match. 'I'm just happy,' said Swiatek. 'This is the life I've chosen, and moments like this make it all worth it.'
