WhatsApp
has released the official
iPad
app on
Apple
's App Store, providing an optimised version of the messaging platform on the popular device family. The app syncs with the main account on the users' smartphones, similar to the desktop version of the app.
WhatsApp 25.16..81 is the first version of the instant messaging app launched for the iPads, and it will work on
iPadOS
15.1 or later.
WhatsApp for iPad has been under development for some time now. The messaging firm had launched a beta testing programme specifically for iPad users on the Apple-owned developers' platform TestFlight. The beta programme was limited and highly focussed on collecting targeted feedback and identifying bugs from users running the app specifically on iPadOS. The move was meant to tailor the app to a screen larger than a smartphone and optimise it for tablet usage.

ChatGPT therapy chats are not private, warns OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

More people are using ChatGPT like a therapist, but that doesn't mean it's private. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says those kinds of chats don't have the same legal protections you get with real therapists, doctors, or lawyers. OpenAI says deleted chats from Free, Plus, and Pro users are wiped within 30 days unless they're legally required to keep them for "legal or security reasons."(AP) Altman told podcaster Theo Von, 'So if you go talk to ChatGPT about your most sensitive stuff and then there's like a lawsuit or whatever, we could be required to produce that, and I think that's very screwed up.' He went on, 'Right now, if you talk to a therapist or a lawyer or a doctor about those problems, there's like legal privilege for it — there's doctor-patient confidentiality, there's legal confidentiality,' according to Business Insider report. 'We haven't figured that out yet for when you talk to ChatGPT.' Altman said there should be the 'same concept of privacy for your conversations with AI that we do with a therapist' and that it should be 'addressed with some urgency.' Also Read: 'Will AI replace lawyers? Law intern asks to use ChatGPT for witness analysis, gets hard copies instead Youngsters turning to ChatGPT for therapy He said a growing number of people — especially younger users — are turning to ChatGPT for therapy, life advice, or help with relationships. Altman said, 'No one had to think about that even a year ago, and now I think it's this huge issue of like, 'How are we gonna treat the laws around this?'' Unlike end-to-end encrypted apps like WhatsApp or Signal, OpenAI can read your conversations with ChatGPT. Employees sometimes look at chats to improve the AI or to watch for misuse. OpenAI says deleted chats from Free, Plus, and Pro users are wiped within 30 days unless they're legally required to keep them for "legal or security reasons." Back in June, The New York Times and other media outlets asked a court to force OpenAI to save all user chats, even deleted ones, as part of a copyright lawsuit. OpenAI is now appealing that court order.

Dutch regulator delays Apple ruling amid EU talks on App Store: Report

Dutch antitrust watchdog, the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), has delayed its decision on Apple over fees charged to dating app providers on the App Store. According to a report by news agency Reuters, the regulator said that it is waiting for the outcome of ongoing discussions between Apple and the European Commission on a similar issue before moving forward. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to ACM, Apple recently changed its fee structure in response to those talks and has said it plans to make further adjustments later this year. The regulator had previously ruled that Apple abused its dominant market position by imposing unfair conditions on dating app developers. That decision was upheld by a Dutch court in June, which found that the company's practices in the App Store violated competition laws. The ACM has not provided a new timeline for its final ruling. The ongoing talks between Apple and the European Commission are expected to influence how both EU and national regulators handle competition issues related to the App Store in the future. In a related news, Reuters recently reported that Apple's updates to its App Store rules and fees are likely to get approval from EU antitrust regulators soon. Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said that this could help the Cupertino-based company avoid large daily fines. Last month, the iPhone maker said that developers will soon be required to pay a 20% processing fee for purchases made via the App Store. For Apple's small-business program, the fees could go as low as 13%.

Built into Snap Map's location-sharing tools, it lets users check in after events like dates or long trips, providing reassurance to close contacts. Tech companies now face stricter rules when supplying AI tools to the US government, following a directive from President Donald Trump aimed at curbing 'woke' content. The order mandates that AI developed for federal use align with traditional American values and steer clear of politically sensitive ideologies. In a widely read essay later turned into a book, Nicholas Carr argued that tools like search engines have diminished people's ability to think critically or retain knowledge. While users still need to interpret search results, Carr warned that reliance on such technology could erode deeper cognitive skills.
