Khelo India Youth Games 2025: Bihar bags historic 36 medals
The mega sports event concluded on Thursday with Bihar making its presence felt emphatically at the national level, first by successfully organising and subsequently improving its ranking and medals tally.
It is Bihar's best ever performance at the KIYG with the state fetching seven gold, 11 silver and 18 bronze medals. Bihar has won two gold medals each in Thang Ta, Rugby, and Athletics and one gold medal in SepakTakraw.
It has also witnessed a growth of 620 per cent over the last Khelo India Youth Games held in 2023, where it won five medals including two gold, two silver and one bronze. It was the state's second best performance.
Bihar ranked 21st and 24th at the sixth and fifth KIYG respectively, after finishing 28th in all the initial editions of the Games which began in 2018.
The state could barely open its account with a bronze medal in the 2018 games. In 2019, it won five medals, including one silver and four bronze but the medals tally increased to nine in 2020. Out of nine medals, the state could win just one gold and silver each and seven bronze medals.

However, in 2021, Bihar witnessed a sharp decline in its medals tally as it returned home with just two. Bihar's overall medals tally was seven in 2022 and five in 2023.
In recent years, the Bihar government has taken umpteen measures to improve the state of sports affairs in Bihar and build infrastructure, creating a favourable environment for sports from the panchayat to the state level.
The government has provided other facilities such as national and international coaches, training, and support staff. It has come out with a sports scholarship scheme awarding INR 3 to 20 lakh to different categories of players.
Besides, the state government also came out a scheme 'Medal Lao, Naukri Pao' as per which players winning medals at national and international level get government jobs.
The government also came out with another scheme titled 'Mashaal' which is a talent hunt competition to identify, train and hone children's talent at school level to make them compete at national and international level.

On Bihar's performance at the KIYG, Bihar State Sports Authority Director General Raveendran Sankaran told the media, 'This is Bihar. We do not write history, rather, we create history. Our talented athletes have given wings to their dreams. It is the outcome of four years of hard work. Athletes were given training by specialised coaches in their fields. Even foreign coaches gave training to the athletes.'
The Sports Department and Bihar State Sports Authority were formed to give special attention to the development of sports, Sankaran said, adding that 'our athletes have worked hard for the Games.'
The Youth Games had commenced on May 4, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. On the last day, decisive events for medals in Basketball, Wrestling and Fencing were played at Patna and Rajgir in the Nalanda district.

Cricket Matches In Los Angeles Olympics 2028 To Start On July 12
Last Updated: A total of six teams each in men's and women's sections and 180 players will compete in the T20 format in the quadrennial showpiece. Cricket's much-hyped return to the Olympics at the LA Games will take place at the Fairgrounds Stadium in the city of Pomona, about 50km from Los Angeles, starting on July 12, with the medal matches scheduled for July 20 and 29, 2028. Only two teams, Great Britain and France, competed in a two-day match with the former winning the gold medal. With a total of 90 athlete quotas allocated in the men's and women's sections, the 12 competing teams can name 15-member squads. Cricket's growing popularity can be gauged from the fact that three venues in the United States — Grand Prairie, Lauderhill, and New York — organised several matches of the 2024 T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by USA and the West Indies. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had approved cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash as five new sports to feature at the 2028 Games. 'When the world comes here for these Games, we will highlight every neighbourhood as we host a Games for all and work to ensure it leaves a monumental legacy. 'We are already delivering that legacy as we announce there have been more than one million enrollments in PlayLA. I want to thank LA28 and the International Olympic Committee for making these programs possible and for their continued work to host the greatest Games yet," said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in a statement. Will Kuldeep's long wait end at Old Trafford?
As India trained at the Beckenham County Ground on a cloudy Thursday morning, after a two-day break, Kuldeep Yadav bowled to Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran in one of the nets for about an hour. Not in a stretch, but at frequent intervals. Since landing in England nearly a month ago, this has been Kuldeep's routine — turn up for training, bowl in the nets, and then warm the bench as the morning of the match dawns. He had to wait in Leeds, then in Birmingham, and as India went with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at Lord's, all the left-arm wrist-spinner could do was train alone at the Nursery Ground in between the sessions. But with some sort of turn expected at Old Trafford, will Kuldeep get his chance? Farokh Engineer, who has been a resident of Manchester for years and knows the conditions well, believes that India should bring Kuldeep in and leave Nitish Kumar Reddy out. Former England captain Allan Lamb, however, has a slightly different take on the matter. Knowing the Old Trafford surface inside out, Lamb believes that Washington should make way for Kuldeep. 'There's one thing lacking in the Indian team. They do not have a [specialist] spinner. They gotta be playing Kuldeep. At Old Trafford, it does turn a bit, and I would have [played] him straight away,' Lamb told The Hindu. In the last couple of games, India played Washington and Jadeja, keeping their all-round skills in mind. While at home, he had to warm the bench due to the presence of R. Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar Patel for the longest time, on overseas tours, the team management's decision to often not play more than one spinner meant either Jadeja or Ashwin made the cut. With Ashwin walking into retirement and Jasprit Bumrah not available for more than three games, there were chances of the team management using Kuldeep as the specialist spinner in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, that hasn't been the case so far. Despite the fact that Kuldeep is not limited by conditions and has the ability to provide breakthroughs at crucial junctures, the team management looked beyond him in flat surfaces in Leeds and Birmingham. But now, with the series on the line and the Old Trafford strip expected to aid the spinners a bit, will India finally play Kuldeep? Time will tell.
