Abu Dhabi population grows 7.5% in 2024, exceeds 4 million
It has increased by 51 per cent over the past decade, rising from 2.7 million in 2014 to over 4.1 million in 2024.
This sustained demographic expansion coincides with significant economic achievements, including GDP growth by 3.8 per cent last year to an all-time high of AED 1.2 trillion, driven by non-oil sectors, which grew by 6.2 per cent to account for 54.7 per cent of the total economic output, demonstrating the emirate's successful diversification strategy.
"Abu Dhabi's sustained population growth reflects the government's success in creating an environment that attracts international talent and investment," said Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi and Chairman of SCAD.
"Through strategic policy development and infrastructure investment, Abu Dhabi has established itself as a leading destination for professionals seeking growth opportunities in a stable, innovative environment."
He added that the 7.5 per cent population growth validates Abu Dhabi's talent-first strategy. "Abu Dhabi is not competing in the traditional talent market—the emirate is creating an entirely new category as a global career destination," Al Kuttab stated.
Abu Dhabi's population growth provides the foundation for its development into the world's first AI-native government. Under the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025-2027, the emirate is pioneering data-driven governance that anticipates citizen needs before they arise and optimises service delivery through advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.
These initiatives are generating demand for specialists in areas including digital governance, policy analytics, service design, and technology integration—fields that combine traditional expertise with advanced technological capabilities. Such roles reflect the evolution of professional opportunities in an increasingly digital economy.
The emirate's workforce expanded by 9.1 per cent in 2024, with growth across all skill levels. Professional roles increased by 6.4 percent, reflecting Abu Dhabi's continued transition toward knowledge-based industries including AI, technology, financial services, and advanced manufacturing. The demographic profile tells the story: 54 per cent of residents are aged 25 to 44 - their peak productive years - "creating one of the world's most economically dynamic talent pools."

Bank fined AED 5.9 million for violating UAE's anti-money laundering law
The Central Bank of the UAE has penalised a branch of a foreign bank operating in the country with a fine of AED 5.9 million for violating the country's anti-money laundering law. The penalty was imposed after assessing the findings of an examination conducted by the CBUAE. According to a statement issued by the CBUAE, the bank did not comply with Article 14 of the Federal Decree Law No. (20) of 2018 on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organisations. Hotel revenues in Abu Dhabi reach $231mln in April 2025
Hotel establishments in Abu Dhabi generated revenues amounting to AED847 million in April 2025, comprising AED540 million from rooms, AED256 million from food and beverage, and AED51 million from other services. According to preliminary data released by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and issued by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, hotels across the emirate welcomed approximately 531,000 guests in March 2025. The figures underscore Abu Dhabi's growing appeal as a global tourism destination, supported by a diverse range of accommodation options and elevated service standards. A total of 172 hotel establishments were in operation during the month, offering 34,383 hotel rooms. The total number of guest nights exceeded 1.52 million, with an average occupancy rate of 87 percent. The average revenue per available room reached AED614. Guests from non-Arab Asian countries topped the list with 149,000 hotel guests, followed by European visitors with 148,000, and UAE nationals with 97,000. The figures highlight sustained growth in the emirate's tourism sector and reinforce its status as a preferred destination for international travellers. By category, five-star hotels received the highest number of guests with 265,000, led by 95,000 European visitors. Four-star hotels hosted 143,000 guests, while hotels rated three stars or below received 63,000 guests. Additionally, 61,000 guests stayed in hotel apartments.

Abu Dhabi successfully completes first test flight of 'Midnight' flying taxi
Archer announced on Wednesday the successful completion of an initial flight of its Midnight flying taxi at Abu Dhabi's Al Bateen Executive Airport, marking a key milestone for its planned commercial deployment in the UAE and the expansion of its operations in the Middle East region. Abu Dhabi's latest milestone comes amid a major push in the UAE to advance tests, infrastructure and legislation in a bid to adopt advanced air mobility as soon as 2026. Earlier in the day, the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) issued the world's first regulatory framework for hybrid operations , enabling both flying taxis and conventional helicopters to operate interchangeably on the same infrastructure. By enabling dual-use between conventional helicopter pads and landing pads for flying taxis, this initiative helps accelerate the implementation timelines in the UAE, optimizes infrastructure utilization and cements the UAE's position as a leader in fostering an integrated ecosystem supporting the future of aviation. Archer seeks regional expansion following Abu Dhabi success With the support of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), Archer's test flight was witnessed by senior leadership from the UAE GCAA, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), the Integrated Transport Center, Abu Dhabi Aviation and Abu Dhabi Airports, along with representatives from Archer's regional partners. Focused on evaluating the flying taxi's VTOL performance in UAE-specific conditions, including temperature, humidity and dust exposure, the test flight allows Archer to validate readiness for commercial deployment.
