Govt to continue strengthening Sabah's defence: Mohamed Khaled
KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the government will continue to strengthen defence in Sabah even though the state is currently safe.
He said in a statement posted on his Facebook page last night, that serious attention is being given to addressing any form of threat in this territory, considering that the risk of threats is more pronounced due to its geographical position.
At the same time, he also urged Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans to continue to play their role as members of society in supporting the MAF to realise the 'Whole of Government, Whole of Society' approach.
Meanwhile, he said that during a working visit to Tawau yesterday he had the opportunity to officiate the Malaysia Service Medal award ceremony.
"On behalf of the nation, I express my gratitude to the MAF veterans for their bravery and sacrifices towards the security of the homeland. The peace we enjoy would not be felt without their contributions.
"As citizens, we need to appreciate their struggles and take the necessary advice for a better future for the country," he said.
He expressed his commitment to continue promoting the welfare agenda for the MAF veterans as a recognition of their services and contributions, and this can be seen as the annual allocation for veteran affairs has significantly increased each year.
Mohamed Khaled also hoped that the struggles of the MAF veterans would continue to inspire the new generation to build a stronger Malaysia, becoming future warriors who are always ready to defend the homeland.— BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Guizhou Provincial Government has announced that the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025 will be convened from July 5 to 6 in the provincial capital of Guiyang, following approval by the State Council of China. Hosted by the People's Government of Guizhou Province, the two-day event will carry the theme "Harmonious Coexistence between Humans and Nature – Discussing Global Development and Green Transformation" and is expected to draw approximately 800 delegates, according to a statement. As China's sole national and international forum focused on the theme of eco-civilisation, the Eco Forum Global Guiyang has steadily built its profile over the course of 12 previous editions, earning growing attention on the global stage. Organisers aim to position this year's iteration as a dynamic platform for dialogue, partnership, and actionable outcomes, particularly in the realm of sustainable development and ecological governance. Preparations for the forum are reportedly progressing in an orderly fashion, with a rich programme of activities scheduled, including the opening ceremony, thematic forums, off-site visits, promotional displays, green investment promotion, and the debut of new environmental protection products and technologies. Notably, this year marks a significant step forward in international collaboration. For the first time since 2018, international organisations will play a substantive role in shaping the forum's agenda. Of the 20 planned thematic forums, 11 will feature participation by international entities, with four forums to be independently hosted by these organisations. The forum also serves as an extension of China's engagement with major multilateral climate processes. Hamidin Returns To FAM As Honorary President
SUBANG JAYA, June 30 (Bernama) -- Speculation over Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin's return to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has been put to rest following his appointment as honorary president during the association's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) today. FAM president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub, who chaired the meeting, said the appointment was based on Hamidin's credibility, vast experience and significant contributions to the development of football both domestically and internationally over the past 30 years.
