Public Enterprises Ministry launches overhaul plan to modernize affiliated companies: El-Shimy

Minister of Public Enterprises Sector Mohamed El-Shimy has announced the implementation of a comprehensive modernization plan for companies affiliated with the ministry. The plan centers on digital transformation, technology localization, and advancing Egypt's industrial self-reliance by integrating smart manufacturing solutions and forging practical partnerships.
El-Shimy made the announcement during a workshop on spare parts manufacturing using 3D printing and digital machining, held at the Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC) inside the Engine Factory of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) in Helwan. The event was attended by AOI Chairperson Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sayed Ismail, and representatives from Immensa, a company specialized in digital spare parts manufacturing using advanced 3D printing technologies.
During the workshop, both El-Shimy and Abdel Latif emphasized the need to fully leverage national manufacturing capabilities and strengthen cooperation in the production of industrial spare parts through advanced technologies. These efforts are aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030 for sustainable development and industrial modernization.
El-Shimy underscored the urgency of greater collaboration and integration across national industrial institutions. He stressed that adopting modern technologies—such as 3D printing—is now essential for enhancing Egypt's manufacturing competitiveness, reducing import dependency, and creating high-value employment opportunities.
He also praised AOI's longstanding national role in supporting the state's strategy for modernization, renewal, and technology localization. El-Shimy described the workshop as a tangible step toward deepening industrial integration among government entities and promoting private sector cooperation in Egypt's digital transformation journey.
AOI Chairperson Mokhtar Abdel Latif echoed these sentiments, highlighting that AOI had recognized the value of these emerging technologies early on and took proactive steps by establishing the DMC. The center is equipped with advanced global technologies and highly trained technical staff, aligning with Fourth Industrial Revolution standards.
The DMC has successfully localized manufacturing technologies for pumps of various types and applications and is capable of meeting a wide range of industrial demands at globally competitive quality levels, Abdel Latif added.
He affirmed AOI's readiness to enhance cooperation with both public and private sector entities, in coordination with academic and research institutions. The goal is to maximize the use of advanced capabilities at the DMC and across all AOI factories to address national industrial needs. A comprehensive inventory of spare part requirements is currently being compiled, with manufacturing plans already underway.
Abdel Latif reaffirmed that AOI has all the capabilities needed to meet these demands using advanced manufacturing techniques, in line with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's directives to raise the share of local manufacturing, localize strategic technologies, reduce imports, and promote the 'Made in Egypt' initiative.
He explained that 3D printing and digital machining technologies enable on-demand, high-precision production of complex or obsolete spare parts that are often unavailable in the market. The technology has already proven effective across a wide range of sectors, including automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, and medical devices.

Egypt assumes presidency of Union for Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly - Foreign Affairs

Egypt has taken over the presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), succeeding Spain. The handover was formalised during the Assembly's 18th Plenary Session, held on Thursday in Spain. Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, Mohamed Abou El-Enein, was unanimously elected as PA-UfM President with the support of 43 parliamentary leaders across the Mediterranean. He succeeds Spanish Parliament President Francina Armengol. Egypt's regional priorities In his address, Abou El-Enein presented Egypt's strategic vision for addressing ongoing crises in the Mediterranean. He praised the Assembly's efforts to advance regional development and integration. Still, he warned that instability—particularly the ongoing conflict in Gaza—continues to threaten cooperation among member states. Describing Israel's war on Gaza as 'brutal aggression' amounting to genocide, Abou El-Enein accused Israel of seeking to expand regional conflict and obstruct diplomatic efforts. He reiterated Egypt's rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians. He underscored President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's stance in support of a two-state solution. 'A just and lasting peace in the Middle East is a prerequisite for genuine regional cooperation,' he said, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also commended President El-Sisi's handling of tensions involving Israel and Iran, positioning Egypt as a stabilizing force in the region. Assembly members echo support Several members of the Assembly echoed Egypt's concerns, condemning Israel's actions in Gaza and calling for accountability. They voiced support for Egypt's opposition to the displacement of Palestinians. They backed the two-state solution as the foundation for lasting peace. Egypt's role in the PA-UfM Abou El-Enein stressed that Egypt's diplomatic approach—both parliamentary and governmental—prioritizes dialogue and cooperation. He noted that Egypt is assuming the presidency during a critical period for the Euro-Mediterranean region, which is facing mounting challenges to both security and development. He thanked the Spanish Parliament for its leadership during its term and reaffirmed Egypt's longstanding commitment to the PA-UfM. He described the Assembly as a crucial platform for dialogue and coordination among Mediterranean countries. Parliamentary leaders also praised Egypt's early recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza. They expressed confidence in El-Sisi's leadership in promoting regional stability. Upcoming UfM events in Egypt According to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), Egypt will host a preparatory meeting of the PA-UfM Bureau in Sharm El-Sheikh from 11–14 September. An international conference on political and economic issues in the Mediterranean is also scheduled for 28–30 November. The PA-UfM serves as a regional platform for fostering political dialogue and cooperation among countries bordering the Mediterranean through parliamentary diplomacy. El-Sisi urges Gaza ceasefire in call with UK's Starmer - Foreign Affairs

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi called for immediate steps toward a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and the acceleration of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians during a phone call on Thursday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency. The presidency added that El-Sisi warned that the current de-escalation must not be wasted, stressing the need for "concrete measures" to halt the Israeli war on Gaza and address the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip. The two leaders discussed regional developments, particularly the fragile calm following the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran, and emphasised the importance of preventing renewed escalation. They also stressed the need for all parties to uphold the truce and return to negotiations as the only viable path to resolving the crisis. In addition, the two sides emphasized the importance of avoiding military escalation to preserve regional stability, protect the resources and lives of the region's people, and prevent further expansion of the conflict. El-Sisi, continued the presidency's statement, reiterated Egypt's position that a lasting solution requires a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in pursuing a just and comprehensive solution based on international legitimacy and law. Furthermore, the presidency noted that El-Sisi informed Starmer that he has accepted King Charles III's invitation to visit London. He invited the British Prime Minister to visit Egypt later this year. Moreover, according to the statement, PM Starmer praised Egypt's ongoing efforts to support peace and stability in the Middle East and affirmed the UK's interest in maintaining close coordination and consultation with Cairo on regional issues of mutual concern. During the call, the two leaders reaffirmed the strength of Egyptian-British relations and their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across multiple fields, particularly in the economic and investment sectors. They also emphasized the importance of building on the historic ties between the two nations to serve the mutual interests of their peoples, the Egyptian presidency's statement read.
