Five Gators projected to go in 2025 NFL draft by CBS Sports
The 2025 NFL draft begins in less than two weeks, and a handful of Gators expect to hear their name called over the three-day event.
CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso released a full seven-round mock draft on Wednesday and has five Gators going on Day 3 of the draft. While five draftees would exceed last year's total of one — Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 in the first round — it would mark the first time Florida didn't produce a Day 1 or 2 pick since 2012, when Jaye Howard went in the fourth and Chris Rainey followed in the fifth.
Trapasso sees receiver Elijhah Badger coming off the board first for the Gators in the fourth round to the Carolina Panthers. Defensive tackle Cam Jackson is a projected fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers, joining Ricky Pearsall, and Trapasso sees the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trading up to get linebacker Shemar James in the sixth.
James had eligibility left but opted to enter the draft instead of returning for his senior year. Florida's linebacker room is a bit crowded with young talent, but James would still have been the leader of that position room and received plenty of playing time.
Rounding out the draft projections are offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson and cornerback Jason Marshall Jr., both going in the seventh and final round. Marshall played like a potential Day 2 guy for most of the season, but a season-ending injury killed his draft stock.
The two surprising omissions out of Florida not on Trapasso's list are receiver Chimere Dike and running back Montrell Johnson Jr. Dike was a draft combine darling that wowed scouts and drew rave reviews, while Johnson has been a reliable back for four seasons under Billy Napier. Similar to Marshall, Johnson dealt with some injuries as a senior, but he's still a reliable back who flashed better speed at the combine than many expected. It wouldn't be surprising to see both sneak into the later rounds, despite Trapasso's projections.

Notre Dame saw On3's Steve Wiltfong predicting to land one of its last 2026 targets
Notre Dame football currently has twenty-six commits in the 2026 recruiting cycle, and while there isn't much room left, there is for at least one more prospect. Elijah Golden is a 6-foot, 4-inch and 275-pound defensive lineman from Florida who will make his commitment on Aug. 9th, deciding between Alabama, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and the Irish. On3's Steve Wiltfong really likes Notre Dame's chances, as on Monday he put in a projection for Golden to commit to the Blue and Gold. With a frame like his, Golden will most likely play on the interior of the line at the next level, but can also play on the edge if needed. Tiki Hola is the only other prospect that projects inside, so there is a clear need for Notre Dame to add another in this class. The hope is that Wiltfong is correct, and Golden ultimately does select the Irish on Saturday. Marlins reinstate Derek Hill from injured list, designate Jack Winkler for assignment
MIAMI (AP) — Outfielder Derek Hill was reinstated from the 10-day injured list by the Miami Marlins on Monday after he had been sidelined the past two weeks with a finger sprain. Hill injured his left middle finger during a session in the batting cage last month and returned Monday after a short rehab stint with Triple-A Jacksonville. He is batting .211 with two home runs in 33 games this season. Infielder Jack Winkler was designated for assignment by Miami. Also Monday, the Marlins claimed outfielder Joey Wiemer off waivers from the Kansas City Royals and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville. See where longtime college basketball analyst Andy Katz has the Spartans in his updated Big Ten power rankings College basketball analyst Andy Katz is expecting a notable drop off from the Spartans next season. Katz released updated power rankings for the Big Ten, and he has the Spartans dropping to the middle of the league next year. In his rankings of all 18 Big Ten schools, Katz has the Spartans coming in at No. 7. Ahead of Michigan State is Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 2), Oregon (No. 3), UCLA (No. 4), Illinois (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 6). Michigan State won the Big Ten by three games last season and went the deepest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament in reaching the Elite Eight. The Spartans, however, have lost a number of key contributors from last year's squad -- including Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson. I personally have Michigan State right around the same spot as Katz but can understand some Spartans fans considering this a slight for the defending conference champs. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan State surprised some folks again and ended up near the top of the league as we saw this past season.
