Second person charged with murder in death of Super Bowl reporter Adan Manzano
Authorities in Louisiana have charged a second person with second-degree murder in the death of a reporter from Kansas City who was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl.
The Kenner Police Department said it obtained an arrest warrant for Rickey White and charged him with Adan Manzano's death.
White has been in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center since he was arrested at a La Quinta Inn in Hollywood, Florida, on March 14 by U.S. Marshals and the Hollywood Police Department. White was previously charged with simple robbery, access device fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud and computer fraud.
Danette Colbert was arrested after she was seen on video at the Kenner Comfort Suites hotel with Manzano at around 5 a.m. the day of his death on Feb. 5 and was seen leaving the room alone later in the morning. Authorities charged her with second-degree murder in March.
Manzano died from the combined toxic effects of Xanax and alcohol intoxication, along with positional asphyxia, and the manner of death is still undetermined. He was found face down on a pillow, and his blood alcohol level was .232, almost three times the legal amount in the state of Louisiana.
Manzano's cellphone and credit card were found during a search of Colbert's residence in Slidell, and the credit card was used fraudulently at several New Orleans area stores. Colbert also faces a state felony charge of possession of a stolen firearm that was also found during that search, but authorities have said they didn't think it relates to Manzano's case.
Authorities said no further comments will be made in the case.

Shannon Sharpe opens up about ESPN firing — and why he wanted news to wait even longer

Shannon Sharpe is speaking out after his reported firing by ESPN on Wednesday, saying he's 'at peace' with the axing. After The Athletic's Andrew Marchand broke the news earlier in the day, the Pro Football Hall of Famer addressed the news on his 'Nightcap' podcast. Sharpe said he had known that he was officially done at ESPN for a little bit, but he was hoping the news wouldn't be made public until his brother, Sterling Sharpe, was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. That, however, did not happen. 'I found out this information a little earlier in the week, and really the only thing that I really asked is, 'Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother's going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family,' Sharpe said. 'I said, 'This coming out will overshadow everything he's worked his entire life for.' And, unfortunately, it didn't happen that way.' Sharpe said he 'profusely' apologized to his brother about it. The former Super Bowl champion wideout is done at the network after he settled a $50 million lawsuit where he was accused of rape. Sharpe had been named in a civil lawsuit filed in Nevada state court this spring that alleged he committed assault, sexual assault, sexual battery and battery. Shannon Sharpe addressed his ESPN firing. He denied 'all allegations of coercion or misconduct,' through his legal team, and he stepped away from his duties at ESPN in April. 'I really enjoyed my time at ESPN, they gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow,' Sharpe said on his podcast. 'They did what they felt they needed to do, I'm at peace with that. I just wish this thing could've waited until Monday because I hate the fact that I am overshadowing my brother. First two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and this is what the headline is going to be for the next couple of days.' Sharpe then used his podcast platform to apologize directly to his brother one more time. Report: ESPN punts Shannon Sharpe after lawsuit settlement

ESPN parted ways with Pro Football Hall of Fame member and media personality Shannon Sharpe, according to multiple reports Wednesday. Sharpe was last with the network in April when a former girlfriend accused Sharpe of sexual assault and filed a $50 million lawsuit. The ESPN move comes after the woman's attorney, Tony Buzbee, announced an out-of-court settlement on July 18 without divulging any financial figures while acknowledging a "long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship" between his client and Sharpe, 57. Sharpe began appearing on ESPN's "First Take" in September 2023. He signed a multi-year contract extension with the company last summer. When he stepped away in April, he called the move temporary and made it clear he intended to return to a role in national sports media. A different allegation about Sharpe emerged in April. Front Office Sports reported he was accused of choking a female production assistant while working for Fox as the co-host of FS1's "Undisputed." Per the report, Sharpe was not sued in the case, and he and Fox settled with the woman for several hundred thousand dollars. Sharpe's camp denied that the choking incident happened. Sharpe played 14 NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens, winning three Super Bowl titles. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Shannon Sharpe out at ESPN after settling sexual misconduct lawsuit

ESPN football analyst Shannon Sharpe will not be returning to the cable sports network, a source familiar with the situation told NBC News on Wednesday. Sharpe, a Hall of Fame former player, settled a lawsuit earlier this month that accused him of sexual assault, according to the plaintiff's attorney. He had stepped aside from ESPN in April after a woman filed the lawsuit in Nevada. The suit accused him of raping the woman twice in Las Vegas in October and once more in January. A representative and an attorney for Sharpe did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Tony Buzbee, the woman's attorney, said in a July 18 statement that the civil suit was settled. 'Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship," Buzbee said. "After protracted and respectful negotiations, I'm pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed." In a statement after the suit was filed, an attorney for Sharpe said he and the woman had a relationship that was 'consensual and sexual in nature.' The attorney, Lanny Davis, said in April that the suit was 'filled with lies, distortions, and misrepresentations' and an 'attempt at blackmail.' After he stepped away, Sharpe, a former Denver Broncos tight end, vowed to be back on ESPN by the time pro football season started again. The first exhibition game is set for Thursday when the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions play in the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. The regular season starts on Sept. 4 when the Dallas Cowboys pay a visit to the defending Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles.
