Man charged after woman assaulted with weapon in Northland

Police say an 18-year-old man will appear in the Whangārei District Court tomorrow, charged with assault with a weapon.
Officers arrested and charged a man following an assault overnight after a woman approached the Whangārei Police Station about 1.30am.
At the time, the woman was transported to hospital and treated for moderate injuries, she has since been released from hospital.
The two parties were known to each other and police believe there's no wider risk to the public.
Police said they're still investigating this incident, other charges are pending but are not seeking anyone else.

Woman charged with arson after blaze at Christchurch church

Fire and Emergency were called to the church on Atlantis Street in New Brighton after the fire alarm went off at about 2:30pm today. Three fire trucks responded to the call, but crews found the fire well alight and called two more for backup. The blaze was soon extinguished and an RNZ reporter at the scene said the exterior of the church appeared undamaged. Police arrested a 35-year-old woman later that afternoon and have now charged her with arson. She is expected to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow. Fire investigators are also at the scene.

Person in hospital after assault at public pool in Dunedin
Photo: One person is in hospital following an assault at a public pool in Dunedin. Emergency services were called to Moana Pool on Littlebourne Road around 3.15pm. Police said one person has been arrested and a second person with injuries taken to hospital after reports of a grievous assault. Cordons are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area. A police spokesperson said the public may see an increased police presence while enquiries are ongoing. Pool staff declined to comment. RNZ has contacted the Dunedin City Council. More to come...
