6 swept over Oregon waterfall; 1 dead and 2 missing
Search and rescuers responded just before 3 p.m. to the Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River west of Bend after getting a 911 call about the group going over the falls, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office said.
One person was confirmed dead at the scene. Three others were pulled from the river and rushed to a local hospital. No update on their conditions was immediately provided.
Two people remain missing as a multi-agency search and rescue operation is underway to find them, according to the sheriff's office.
The Dillon Falls features a 15-foot drop that turns into churning rapids "in a quick, step ladder-like pattern," according to Visit Central Oregon, a website promoting tourism in the region.
In photos of the search shared by the sheriff's office, hazard signs show waterfall warnings to those traveling on the river, cautioning visitors to travel upstream only and to wear life jackets.
The sheriff's office said Bend Fire and Rescue and the Bend Police Department also responded to help on Saturday, with the latter providing drone support for aerial searches.
The operation paused Saturday night and resumed Sunday morning using drones, marine patrol boats and three K-9 units. A 15-member swift water rescue team scoured all high-interest areas that drone imagery flagged, according to the sheriff's office.
Despite the effort, neither missing person was found Sunday. The search was set to resume Monday morning, officials said.
It was unclear what activity the group was doing before they were swept over the waterfall.
The names of the victims and survivors were withheld until families were notified.

Police are 'extremely concerned' for the welfare of a mother who is missing with her newborn baby after giving birth in an underpass in east London. Shortly before 4.45pm on Wednesday July 30, a report was made to the police that a woman had given birth that same day at 8am at the Billet Road underpass, Walthamstow. A witnesses was alerted when she heard sounds of distress in the underpass, the Metropolitan Police said. She aided with the birth and stayed with the woman until about 4pm when the mother and the newborn were picked-up by two people in a blue transit van. The woman is believed to be rough sleeping, white, in her mid-30s, with long blonde hair. She was wearing a black dress and heavy jumper and is believed to go by the name Anne Marie. Officers said they are 'extremely concerned' for the welfare of her and her baby. PC Dan Cooper, from the North East area's Local Missing Hub, said: 'Our top priority is to establish that the woman and her baby are safe and well and have access to any medical treatment they may need. I would like to stress that the woman is not in any trouble, our only concern is the wellbeing of her and her newborn child. 'We are carrying out fast-paced enquiries, including trawling CCTV, speaking to people in the area and visiting nearby hospitals. 'I'd also like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard something to come forward. Were you walking or cycling through the underpass or at the nearby Kwik Fit garage? If so, please get in touch with us. 'If the woman does not feel comfortable speaking to us, she can go directly to a medical centre or a charity." Youths start fire at York nature reserve
EMERGENCY crews have been called in after youths started a fire at a York nature reserve. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called at 8.39pm on Wednesday (July 30) to Clifton Backies in Clifton. A service spokesperson said: 'Crew from Acomb responded to a fire in woodland started by youths. 'They used a knapsack sprayer to extinguish a small fire consisting of leaves and branches.'

Russian missile and drone attack kills six and injures 52 in Kyiv
Russia attacked Ukraine's capital overnight with missiles and drones, killing at least six people including a six-year-old boy, authorities have said. Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said at least 52 other people were injured in the attacks, and the number is likely to rise. A large part of a nine-storey residential building collapsed after it was struck, he added. Rescue teams are at the scene to rescue people trapped under the rubble. 'Missile strike.
