At Little Harbor Lobster Company, a waterfront seafood market in Marblehead, order up their excellent version (⅓ pound of meat, with mayo or drawn butter) and eat it overlooking the harbor. The tiny-and-mighty Mae's Sandwich Shop serves up excellent baked goods and sandwiches to write home about, right across the street from the ocean. Try the Mae Day (roasted veggies, feta, and romesco) or the Uncle Stevie (roast beef with roasted shallots, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and black pepper mayo), both on fresh house-made focaccia. It's roof deck season at Cunard Tavern by the East Boston waterfront, and James Beard award-winning chef Tony Messina is serving up scallion pancake pizza with spicy vodka sauce and burrata, lobster poutine, crispy chicken sandwiches with kimchi pimento cheese, and more. El Tacuba keeps you and your pals in margaritas and Mexican fare (queso fundido and guac, ceviche, all manner of tacos) all summer long. Lulu Green makes plant-based brunching an art (dinnering too): Come for huevos rojos and pancakes, seitan shawarma bowls and house burgers on pretzel buns, Korean-style lettuce wraps and mushroom 'short ribs,' plus chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, and all the fun drinks you want to drink. Day trip, brought to you by dinner
Sometimes the whole day comes together around what you want to eat later. Take a Thursday off of work, book a tasting menu at Lune in Dennis Port, and head out early to enjoy the day on a gorgeous beach; after dinner, shoot back home to Boston. You visited the Cape during peak season and skipped the traffic. Nicely done. (Lune's tasting menus are available Thursday-Saturday with 5:30 and 8 p.m. seatings; an a la carte menu is offered Wednesday and Sunday.) Or head to Duxbury and spend the afternoon at Island Creek's delightful raw bar by the water. Play lawn games, enjoy the scene, and suck down fresh oysters, caviar, and more. You can also book a farm tour. For dinner, head to sister restaurant the Winsor House for stylish fare, and more oysters, of course. (If you want to skip the day trip, there's now a temporary Island Creek Raw Bar in the Seaport.) Gloucester sushi chef Sang Hyun Lee recently became a champion on cooking show 'Chopped.' Visit his Sushi Sang Lee for beautiful omakase menus created with seafood from nearby waters. Or, earlier in the day, get a bento box to go and eat on the beach.

The backstory : Mike & Patty's started in Bay Village, drawing crowds to its quiet corner perch for simple, succulent egg sandwiches. It has since expanded in scope and location, with branches at the High Street Place Food Hall downtown, plus Jamaica Plain, Newton (home to their commissary, connected to Flourhouse Bakery), and Somerville's Bow Market. Lexington is, by far, their most suburban of locations — nestled in an assuming strip mall, next to a hair salon. Mike & Patty's coffee mugs for sale. John Tlumacki/Globe Staff 'I don't want to call it a trend, because it's been happening for a long time. But the food [in the suburbs] is getting better. There's a higher quality standard,' says co-owner Michael Gurevich. (He is not the original Mike. He bought the business from previous owner Gurevich finds it hard to classify the brand. We don't do deli sandwiches, right? … It's kind of a cross between Dunkin' Donuts, Eggslut, and Tatte,' he says. The Fancy is their biggest seller, though it could also be called The Messy: a towering stack of runny eggs, bacon, cheddar, avocado, red onions, and spicy mayo on their house multigrain bread ($12). The McLustin' is a nod to McDonald's egg sandwiches, though here the eggs are pasture-raised, the ketchup is spiked with Sriracha, and the English muffin is baked at Flourhouse ($10). John Tlumacki/Globe Staff I'm partial to the Carolina Caviar, a healthy smear of pimento cheese, a sausage patty, and a fried egg pressed into an English muffin ($9.50), and the Mission Burrito, a smorgasbord of scrambled eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, hashbrowns, avocados, red and green salsa, pico de gallo, and sour cream rolled into a monstrous flour tortilla ($14). Among the enthusiastic attendees was Diane Giacalone, 80, who frequents the weekly programming with her two close friends, Mimi Largey Lyons, 78, and Linda Santamaria, 76. They began attending events after the Covid-19 pandemic as a way to get out of the house and physically strengthen themselves, as well as strengthen their minds and foster new friendships. They all agree: The programming is 'life changing.' Boston's Advertisement Demand has been high, and since January, five new satellite locations for seniors opened at community centers to help meet it. The extra day of programming at the Elks Lodge , adding Wednesdays to their previous Tuesday/Thursday schedule, is the final satellite expansion the commission has planned for this year. It is in partnership with Wu was at the Elks Lodge to help kick off the celebration, as were Age Strong's commissioner, Emily Shea, City Councilors Benjamin Weber and Erin Murphy, state Representatives Rob Consalvo and William McGregor, and state Senator Michael Rush. 'For Boston to be a home for everyone, it needs to be a home for every generation,' Wu told a Globe reporter after her speech to the West Roxbury seniors. 'It's so important because each neighborhood is so different,' Shea said. The commission hosts a variety of drop-in classes throughout the week at these new locations. Participants can enjoy physical activities such as chair yoga and ballroom dancing, and creative activities such as watercolor painting and jewelry making. Participants just looking for good conversation and company can enjoy snacks, coffee, and board games throughout the day. Advertisement The programming also includes classes with field trips. One of Lyons's favorite memories is of a rowing class she and her two friends took together, which ended with an excursion: rowing on the Charles River.
