Grosse Pointe Garden Society cast bids farewell after series cancelled for second season
Washington DC [US], June 29 (ANI): Following the announcement of NBC that the series 'Grosse Pointe Garden Society' would not be back to bloom for a second season, the cast bid a heartfelt farewell to the series.
Melissa Fumero, who played society newbie Birdie on the Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs-created series, paid tribute to the character with some behind-the-scenes photos and a statement on Instagram.
"This one stings. This job is not for the faint of heart," she wrote Saturday on her Instagram Story, sharing Deadline's reporting of the cancellation. "Thanks for watching our little show," reported Variety.
Sharing the snaps from the series, the actress wrote, "Oh, Birdie. You were one for the books. You felt like an amalgamation of every role I've ever played. I'll miss so many things about this job, but most of all I will miss the incredible group of humans it brought together. I won't miss the shoes. It's really hard to make a show. Even harder to keep it on air. I'll forever be proud of what we made. Thanks for watching."
Actress AnnaSophia Robb, who starred as high school teacher Alice, wrote with a cast photo on her Instagram Story, "Damn. I will miss our GPGS family. Grateful and proud of all that we made together," as quoted by Deadline.
Ben Rappaport, who played divorced father and gardening club manager Brett, shared his own statement with some photos of the cast with Bans and Krebs.
"I've said it before and I'll say it again," he captioned the post. "Showbiz ain't for the faint of heart. Our beloved Grosse Pointe Garden Society was cancelled today. I'll sure miss working with these (and all of our) amazing folks every day. This was a special one."
On Friday, Deadline exclusively reported that NBC opted not to renew the drama series for a second season, after the network explored the possibility of moving the show to Peacock. (ANI)

In an interview with ANI, veteran actress Poonam Dhillon took a stroll down memory lane, recalling her collaboration with Rishi Kapoor on yesteryear's films. While looking back at her work with Rishi Kapoor, Poonam highlighted how "Chintu" (Rishi Kapoor's nickname) added special magic to film songs in his special ways. She shared, "I've learnt a lot from him (Rishi Kapoor). I think Rishi Kapoor was probably the only actor who could sing a sad song with a smile. And later, when I saw a lot of Raj Kapoor films, I found out that Raj uncle (Raj Kapoor) also used to (lip sync the songs similarly)...those were unhappy songs, but he would have a smile on his face and the tragedy was still there." "It wasn't as if you're smiling and it's a happy smile. It was a sad smile, you know. So Rishi Kapoor had that quality that he could make you feel absolutely emotional just by a look and the way he sang songs. He used to look so endearing when he would be singing songs," Poonam added. During the interview, Poonam also recalled the Kapoor family's warm hospitality, sharing a funny anecdote from her dining experience at Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor's house. "The whole unit used to be pampered by the Kapoors' food. I remember I did one film with RK Banner, I mean, we were more interested in knowing what's there for lunch than the shooting. Raj uncle would be there in his cottage. And we did a lot of shooting in the RK studio. Be it Raj uncle or Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor) or Chintu (Rishi Kapoor), they treated everyone to warm hospitality. Proper Punjabi khana...I don't think they would ever serve pizzas in their house," she quipped. "They make a lot of effort. I remember that after late evening, even their eating manners would change. So I remember going to Rishiji's house, Neetu had made a plate for him and me. And I'm saying, 'Neetu, don't put so much dal. I'm not going to eat so much dal.' Chintu says, 'don't worry, I'll take.' And with his hand, he's taken the dal and put it on his plate. I said, 'Chintu, what are you doing? Who takes dal with their hand?' But, you know, so they were like that. Very informal," Poonam reminisced. Poonam and Rishi Kapoor were a popular pair in the eighties. They had worked together in films such as Zamana, Biwi O Biwi, Ek Chadar Maili Si, and Yeh Vaada Raha. Her last post on X was an homage to Sidharth Shukla, the Bigg Boss 13 winner who died of cardiac arrest in 2021. The postmortem report is expected today. Shefali Jariwala became an overnight sensation after featuring in the 2002 remix music video Kaanta Laga. She later appeared in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) in a brief appearance alongside Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. She also participated in Nach Baliye (seasons 5 and 7) and Bigg Boss 13.
