Museum to get hi-tech auditorium
The existing hall at the museum will be transformed into a modern auditorium at a cost of Rs 1.72 crore.
The facility will be equipped with advanced features including a Dolby Atmos sound system, high-quality projector and improved acoustics.
The renovated space will accommodate 130 people and feature enhanced lighting and sound systems, false ceiling, carpets and floor lighting.
The auditorium will host workshops, seminars, conferences and lectures. In a parallel development, the historic Kothi building behind the museum will house a vintage-themed café and a digital library, being developed at a cost of Rs 4.87 crore.
"The auditorium, library, and café are expected to open in July this year," said Shrishti Dhawan, additional director of UP culture department. The project is spearheaded by culture and tourism minister Jaiveer Singh and principal secretary Mukesh Meshram.

During the event, he transferred over Rs 235 cr to 94,234 meritorious students of Class 12 who scored 75% or more in the 2024–25 academic sessions for laptop purchase. Each eligible student received Rs 25,000 directly into their bank account through direct benefit transfer. Yadav announced that from next year onwards, high-quality laptops worth Rs 25,000 will be given instead of cash. He also distributed laptops to 15 outstanding students on stage and encouraged them to continue hardwork in studies by clicking selfies with them.

Automated parking system gets mixed response in Pune
Pune: Space limitations in major cities are driving a gradual shift towards elevated and high-rise car parking solutions. Modern technology now offers several advanced options beyond the traditional elevated parking commonly found in residential complexes. While most people still prefer conventional ground-level parking, the severe space constraints in cities like Mumbai necessitate high-rise car parks that can extend up to 70 meters in height. In contrast, homebuyers in the Pune area show mixed preferences when it comes to these more intricate car parking designs. "Consumers are quickly getting used to modern parking systems, which now even come with AI. These systems can tell you exactly how many parking spots are open, cutting down on the time you spend driving around looking for one. Developers, too, are finding it impossible to meet parking requirements with just traditional stilt and basement parking, so they have to go with mechanized systems," Manish Jain, president of Credai Pune Metro, said. A developer based in Pimpri Chinchwad said, "While complicated parking designs are still rare, they are starting to appear in redevelopment projects where the plot sizes are very small. It has a 30% share in the automated parking space in Mumbai," he said. "There is no space in cities like Mumbai. Everything is redevelopment. In the case of high-rise parking, we can fit around 60 to 70 cars in the space of three cars. The automated parking consumes around one unit of electricity when used once. In localities like Walkeshwar in Mumbai, where there is no space at all, but the buyers are ready, we can install chess-type parking, which can cost up to Rs 11 lakh per spot," he said. The ARAPL has installed some automated parking for public projects in a couple of smart cities like Visakhapatnam and Kerala. However, it is treading lightly in this business as adaptation is happening at a slow pace, either because of preference or lack of funds. "The technology exists, but there is some resistance from the end-customers. At some point, civic administration and developers need to decide if roads are to be used for parking or driving. If roads are meant for driving, then cars should not be parked on the roads," Padole said.

Chandigarh to set up ICT, VR labs in 57 government schools
1 2 3 Chandigarh: UT's education department will establish information and communication technology (ICT) labs in 47 government schools and virtual reality (VR) labs in 10 schools under the Samagra Shiksha scheme over two years, aiming to enhance technology-enabled learning in classrooms. As per the 2025-26 annual work plan approved by the ministry of education's project approval board (PAB), 32 ICT labs were sanctioned in 2024-25 and 15 more are to be added in 2025-26. Each ICT lab will include 10 desktop computers, 10 UPS units, one interactive panel, one printer-cum-scanner, and relevant furniture. For VR labs, 10 headsets per school will be provided, along with charging stations, a content management system, one UPS, and teacher training. These initiatives fall under broader national efforts to reach digital saturation in government schools, as recommended during the PAB's recent meeting in March 2025. Centre flags 100% pendency of 2024 ICT labs According to the PAB minutes, Chandigarh had reported 100% pendency in executing ICT lab infrastructure approved for 2024-25. All 32 labs sanctioned last year remained unimplemented as of March 2025. The ministry expressed concern over the delays and instructed UT officials to prioritise execution of pending ICT components before proceeding. The Centre also reiterated that non-recurring works left incomplete for years would become committed liabilities for the UT. Officials were directed to update progress regularly on the Prabandh portal and surrender inactive projects where necessary. Chandigarh's education department, which had cited vendor and tendering hurdles in earlier delays, is now expected to ensure timely procurement and full utilisation of approved grants in FY 2025-26. The Centre has approved a combined central outlay of over Rs 14 crore for elementary, secondary, and teacher education components. With growing focus on tech-driven classrooms, the successful rollout of ICT and VR labs is now under scrutiny.
