Panna police solve milk trader's murder; black magic suspicion led to killing
Bhopal: Police in Panna district say they have solved the mystery behind the disappearance and murder of a local milk trader whose body was found in two pieces earlier this month in a field near Kishangarh, Chhatarpur.
The victim, Santosh Sharma, had gone missing on May 31 while heading out to deliver milk. His body was found on June 4 buried in two separate pits, with the torso in one and the head in another, about 100 meters apart.
According to police, Santosh was murdered by his neighbour Ramcharan Gond, along with his sons-in-law Jitendra and Ajay Gond, and a 14-year-old boy. The accused believed Santosh had performed black magic that caused long-term illness in Ramcharan's wife and others in the family.
An exorcist had allegedly pointed toward someone in the locality.
The accused tracked Santosh's movements for four days and executed the murder on May 31. As Santosh left his house on a bicycle, the boy struck him with an iron rod. The others then strangled him with a towel. The body was carried on a bike to Chhatarpur with plans to dump it in a forest. But as they ran out of fuel, they buried the body in a field, cutting it into two parts to avoid identification.

The breakthrough came when villagers noticed freshly dug soil and informed police. Panna police matched the clothing and footwear with the missing person's report filed by Santosh's son.
Investigation into phone records and mobile locations confirmed that Ramcharan and the victim were at the same place on the day of the crime. Ramcharan was arrested on June 22 and later confessed, naming the others.
Santosh's son Golu, who was scheduled to be married on June 2, had to cancel the wedding.
All four accused have been arrested. The minor has been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.

‘Don't know if we will wake up': Israel launches fresh new attacks in Gaza; claims 23 lives
AP file photo In a fresh new offensive, Israeli airstrikes and gunfire have claimed the lives of 23 people, including children, in the war-battered territory of Gaza on Sunday, as per Gaza's civil defence agency, reported AFP. Mahmud Bassal, the civil defence spokesman, told AFP that his services "transported 23 martyrs, including several children and women" who were killed in various locations around the besieged territory. The Israeli military told AFP it couldn't comment on the reported incidents but said its ongoing campaign aims to "dismantle Hamas military capabilities" following the group's October 2023 attack on Israel. Bassal informed that two children were killed in an air strike in their home, which was completely destroyed, in the Zeitun neighbourhood of Gaza City early on Sunday morning. A family member, Abdel Rahman Azzam, 45, told AFP that he had heard 'huge explosions' coming from his relative's house, when he 'rushed out in panic and saw the house destroyed and on fire," he said. "We evacuated more than 20 injured people, including two martyrs, two children from the family. The screams of children and women were non-stop," Azzam said. "They bombed the house with a missile without any prior warning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Por qué está en boca de todos esta inteligencia artificial que hace dinero? A drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced people had killed five people, including a child near the southern city of Khan Yunis, said Bassal. Four more people lost their lives in an Israeli gunfire in Rafah, also located in the south. In the Northern town of Jabalia, Ahmed Arar, 60, said that his home was completely destroyed after they had recieved a warning from a person identifying himself as an Israeli army officer. "About half an hour later, they bombed the house, and it was completely destroyed," he told AFP by telephone. Israeli offensive has claimed the lives of at least 56,500 Gazans, most of whom are civilians in the war-battered territory according to the area's health ministry. Around 1,219 people, mostly civilians have also lost their lives in Israel. Israeli authorities have informed that they would refocus on its campaign against Gaza, that it launched in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023 attack, after the 12-day war with Iran that ended with a ceasefire on Tuesday.

658 dumping spots under watch as cleanliness drive begins tomorrow
1 2 Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch an intensive 15-day sanitation campaign, Swachhata Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight), from July 1. The initiative is aimed at promoting hygiene, raising public awareness and improving Patna's ranking in the Centre's Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. As part of the campaign, sanitation workers will clean all 658 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) that were successfully cleared. In addition, special teams will monitor high-traffic areas to prevent littering and illegal dumping while awareness sessions will be held in residential localities to educate citizens on proper waste disposal. Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said the drive would cover all 75 wards. "During this period, various activities will be conducted by sanitation workers at the freed GVP sites. Civic body officials will administer a cleanliness pledge to residents. Names of 'Sadak Shatru' — people caught littering or dumping waste — will be recorded and blacklisted. Offenders will be fined between Rs 500 and Rs 5,000," he said. Parashar added, "Awareness programmes will be held daily at 19 different locations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy One, Get One Free, Up To 50% Discount, Expiring Soon Original Adidas Get Offer Undo People will be encouraged to segregate solid and wet waste and to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean." Rallies are planned in all six civic circles – Azimabad, Bankipur, Kankarbagh, New Capital, Patliputra and Patna City – led by executive officers, zonal in-charges and ward councillors. Awareness activities will also extend to schools, colleges, hotels and public spaces. Additional municipal commissioner Aashish Kumar said despite previous clean-ups, garbage dumping at freed GVPs continues. "This campaign aims to ensure 100% cleanliness. Alongside the pledge, sanitation workers will be honoured for their dedication. Our primary focus is public participation, waste segregation and permanent elimination of GVPs," he said. Kumar also highlighted construction and demolition (C&D) waste as a key concern. "Awareness efforts will ensure full processing at the C&D plant in Ramachak Bairiya. The goal is to raise daily processing from 10-15 tonnes to over 19 tonnes per zone. PMC operates across 19 zones." The campaign will also integrate a dengue awareness drive. "Participants will be educated on dos and don'ts. With the rainy season underway, over 500 teams across 375 sectors are spraying anti-larvae to prevent water stagnation. Each ward is being closely monitored," he said. Officials said micro-level operations would target each ward with consistent household waste collection to ensure city-wide sanitation coverage throughout the fortnight.

Ahmedabad plane crash: Last victim identified by DNA tests cremated; closure only solace for kin
Anil Khimani , the last victim of the horrific June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash identified through DNA tests, has been cremated in Gujarat's Kutch district, bringing closure to the family after two weeks of wait and distress that included submission of samples twice. The 35-year-old, a mason by profession and father of two minor daughters, was on his way to London on Air India Flight 171 to meet relatives when it crashed into a medical college complex in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in what turned out to be one of the worst aviation disasters in recent times. His father Laljibhai had received a call from the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which has been helming the DNA test and identification process, on Friday evening about Anil's body being identified. It took more than two weeks for authorities to identify Anil's body, but at the end of it all we are at peace that it was identified and we could give him a dignified final farewell," Laljibhai said. In an effort to get closure to the pain from the loss, the family had held a symbolic cremation on Thursday, he added. Live Events "For the DNA test, I gave my sample first. But a few days later we were told that another sample will have to be given. We once again went to Ahmedabad and this time my wife gave the sample. We had been anxiously waiting for the results since then," the distraught father recounted. Following the final victim being identified, state government authorities on Saturday had put the death toll at 260, including 241 out of 242 on board the Dreamliner. The others were killed on the ground.
