This Mind-Bending Exhibition Will Teleport You from Abu Dhabi to Seoul
If your summer travel plans happen to include a cultural adventure through Abu Dhabi (and seriously, they should), you might want to get ready for a little teleportation magic.
Right on Saadiyat Island—a buzzing cultural hub with pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and some of the region's most iconic museums—a cross-country portal has just opened, and if you venture through, you'll find yourself face to face with the wild, shimmering world of Korean contemporary art.
Inside Manarat Al Saadiyat, the island's coolest art space, the mind-bending exhibition 'Layered Medium: We Are in Open Circuits' is a full-on conceptual voyage through Korea's artistic evolution, told by the very creators who pushed the boundaries of what art can be.
Curated by Kyung-hwan Yeo of Seoul Museum of Art and Maya El Khalil of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation—the two institutions co-organizing the show—'Layered Medium' pulses with poetic robots, glitched-out memories, kinetic sculptures, speculative cities, and video pieces that feel like time machines.
At the center of this buzzing creative circuit is Nam June Paik—the legendary godfather of video art whose works feel like a playful mashup of sci-fi, philosophy, and good old-fashioned mischief.
Alongside him, you'll find some of Korea's most iconic and imaginative voices, like: Yunchul Kim, whose intricate kinetic machines are so alive they might just start humming along as you watch, and Park Hyun-Ki, a pioneer who danced along the blurry line between technology and metaphysics.
And because this is Abu Dhabi—a city that never does things halfway—the exhibition is more than just what's on the walls. A rich programme of talks, performances, and screenings runs throughout the season, inviting deeper dialogue on everything from technology and identity to memory, migration, and modernity. There's even a bilingual publication, 'Layered Dialogues', that maps the shared ideas, rhythms, and visions between Korea and Abu Dhabi.
On view until June 30th, 2025 (and yes, it's totally free!), this is your chance to jump off the usual tourist trail and dive headfirst into Korea's wildest creative playground—all without leaving Abu Dhabi.

A global exhibition showcasing Korean webtoons, K-Comics World, has opened in Egypt, marking the first stop of an international tour designed to celebrate the cultural impact of the digital comic format. The exhibition in Egypt is the first of five planned global stops, with upcoming editions scheduled for Canada, China, Hungary, and Japan later this year. Its launch in Cairo highlights the expanding global reach of Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, and Korea's growing cultural exchange with Egypt. As part of the exhibition's programme, the cultural centre also hosted a special workshop with Choi, who discussed the production process of , his creative philosophy, and the current state of the Korean webtoon industry. The K-Comics World exhibition is open to the public from 1 July to 31 July 2025, daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Korean Cultural Center in the Dokki district of Cairo.

Egyptian student wins Quiz on Korea during Egypt-Korea diplomatic ties celebrations - City Lights - Life & Style
Amid the Egypt-Korea celebrations of 30-year diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of Ain Shams University's Korean Language and Literature Department, Rawan Hamed, a third-year university student, won Egypt's preliminary contest 'Quiz on Korea,' earning a spot in September's global finals. The embassy of South Korea in Egypt hosted the 2025 Quiz on Korea event at Ain Shams University on 29 June, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Language and Literature Department at Ain Shams University. The Quiz on Korea was held in collaboration with the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University. The event is a global quiz competition co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Korea and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) to raise international interest in Korea. During the contest, participants answer questions covering a wide range of topics, including Korean history, culture, language, and traditions. Contestants had registered in advance through an online application process. The winner of the competition will be invited to Korea as an Egyptian representative to compete in the global final round in September. The grand finale will be broadcast as a KBS special programme on 5 October. The Egypt preliminary consisted of three rounds: OX (true/false), multiple choice, and short-answer questions. 'The cultural and people-to-people exchanges serve as vital bridges of understanding between the two peoples,' he emphasized. He also expressed his gratitude to all participants and attendees for their enthusiasm and contributions to deepening bilateral cultural exchange. The event also featured celebratory performances by Ain Shams University's student Samulnori club and choir, adding a festive atmosphere to the occasion. In addition, a special Korea-Egypt quiz show was held for the audience, offering an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Korea and the various activities of the Korean embassy. 'Our two nations share strong ties, reflected in the Korean department where students act as cultural ambassadors. The Quiz on Korea is not only a test of knowledge, but also a celebration of our shared passion for Korean culture and cross-cultural connection,' Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun Prof. Salwa Rashad stated in her opening remarks.
