In 12 months, a £10,000 investment in Legal & General shares could become…
I've long argued that Legal & General (LSE:LGEN) shares are one of the FTSE 100's best bargains. It seems that the market is waking up to its brilliant value, too — the financial services giant is up 10.4% since the turn of 2025. That's better than the broader Footsie's 8.4% rise. £10k becomes… I bought Legal & General shares in April 2024, and recent price strength means I've eked out a 1.2% capital gain. It was recently trading at 254p per share. Combined with dividends received in that time, my total return is 15.2%. I'm delighted to say that City analysts are confident its price will continue heading northwards. Twelve brokers currently have ratings on the company, and their consensus opinion is that shares will rise to 270.8p. That's a rise of 6.6% from today's levels. That's not the only reason I'm excited, either. Legal & General has a great reputation for large and growing dividends, and its forward yield is currently 8.6%, well above the FTSE 100 average of 3.5%. This all suggests investors today will enjoy a juicy 15.2% total return over the next year. To put that in monetary terms, £10,000 of shares bought today will turn into £11,520, 12 months from now. Profits jumps Profits have recovered strongly more recently, and forecasters are confident this will continue as the strain on consumer spending eases. Driven by improvements at its Retail and Institutional Retirement units (up 7% and 12%), core operating profit at group level rose 6% last year to £1.6bn. Total pre-tax profit rose to £542m, up from £192m in 2023. And analysts suggest it will swell again in 2025, to £18bn. City brokers are confident a series of sustained interest rates this year and beyond will support further sales and profits growth. In the FTSE firm's core UK marketplace, the market's still pricing in another two interest rate cuts in 2025 alone, taking the base rate to 3.75% from 4.25% today. Interest rate reductions are also expected in the company's fast-growing international regions like the US. These bright profit estimates aren't just down to central bank support, howeverr. They also reflect long-term sector growth as people in its markets rapidly age, and the onus on shrewd financial planning becomes greater. Analysts at RBC expect, for instance, the bulk annuity market to keep growing rapidly. In the UK, this is tipped to grow from £46bn-£49bn last year, to £60bn in 2025/26. Reflecting this opportunity, brokers think Legal & General's pre-tax profits will rise to £1.9bn next year. They're tipped at £2.1bn in 2027, too. Considering Legal & General There are threats to these forecasts, one of which is an inflationary surge that could impact the direction of interest rates. A long-term danger is the high degree of industry competition, which may compromise revenues growth, not to mention profit margins. Yet, on balance, I believe Legal & General has the scale, the expertise, and the market opportunity to grow earnings significantly over the next decade. Today, it trades on an undemanding forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 10.9 times, making it worth serious consideration at today's price. £5,000 invested in this 9p penny stock just 1 month ago is now worth…
Agronomics (LSE: ANIC) is a penny stock on the move — it's up 23.3% in just a month. This means that anyone who put five grand into Agronomics shares in mid-June would now be sitting on £6,165. But had an investor bagged this one at just under 4p at the start of 2025, they would have done even better. Year to date, the stock has rocketed 138% to 9p! Science fact For those wondering, Agronomics is the backer of 20+ venture-stage companies aiming to commercialise lab-grown meat. These start-ups are harnessing innovative technologies to produce cell-cultivated meat, milk, eggs, and more. In other words, products that remove the need to farm livestock and slaughter animals. Instead, animal cells are grown in a lab or bioreactor. While that might sound like something out of Frankenstein, this isn't science fiction. Indeed, it's fast becoming science fact. Take BlueNalu, for example, which is one of Agronomics' portfolio bets. This is a US-based firm pioneering cell-cultivated seafood. Its first product is bluefin tuna, which is one of the world's most overfished species. The company grows the seafood in bioreactors, cell by cell. That means no heads, tails, bones, or microplastics — just pure fillets. Again, this isn't just pie-in-the-sky stuff. BlueNalu has expanded a deal with Nomad Foods, the frozen food firm behind Birds Eye and Findus, to support the future commercialisation of its seafood products in the UK and Europe. According to a survey sponsored by BlueNalu, 92% of 2,000 frequent sushi eaters in the UK expressed interest in trying the product. If BlueNalu achieves regulatory approval and commercial rollout, the value of Agronomics' investment could soar. Another firm backed by Agronomics — called Meatly — has cut bioreactor costs by 95%. This moves its cultivated pet food, which was launched in Pets at Home in February, closer to price parity with conventional chicken. Frankenfood fears It's tricky to put a valuation on Agronomics. Most of the companies it holds are still making their way towards commercialisation. But in March, Agronomics' net asset value (NAV) was calculated at 14.93p. With the shares now at 9p, this suggests a NAV discount of about 40%. On this basis, the shares are still undervalued, despite doubling this year. However, it's important to understand that this is a high-risk stock. Some of these firms could go bust due to a lack of funding or a failure to successfully launch products. Also, there may well be a backlash against lab-grown meat. The Trump administration could make US regulatory approvals and funding more difficult. Moreover, the US meat industry and agribusiness groups are obviously going to put up a fight. I expect to see plenty many 'Frankenfood' posts and headlines over the next few years. Adventurous Still, this technology is potentially revolutionary. As Agronomics argues, 'We are on the cusp of the deepest, fastest, most consequential disruption in food and agricultural production since the first domestication of plants and animals 10,000 years ago.' Given the fact that Agronomics invested in these start-ups at the ground floor level, the returns could be enormous if a couple of them succeed in future. But that's not guaranteed. Therefore, this is the very definition of a high-risk, high-reward penny stock. Only the most adventurous investors should consider it. ‘Don't Pull the Trigger Just Yet,' Says Top Investor About Nvidia Stock
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock has been on a wild ride over the past few months – after hitting a 52-week low during the early April Liberation Day slump, it has since bounced back ~83%. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Make smarter investment decisions with TipRanks' Smart Investor Picks, delivered to your inbox every week. Much of that rebound was driven by renewed investor optimism around AI demand, and the past week brought even more fuel to the fire. The Trump administration assured Nvidia that it would be allowed to export its advanced AI chips to China – a major relief, given that the company had taken a $4.5 billion revenue hit in Fiscal Q1 2026 due to those export restrictions. With this regulatory overhang lifted, some investors might assume Nvidia is back on an unstoppable path. But not everyone is convinced that now is the time to pile in. Top investor Brett Ashcroft Green urges caution, arguing that the recent rally may have already run too far, too fast. 'As enthusiastic as I am, the run has just been too far too fast, and I am downgrading NVDA,' explains Green, who ranks among the top 4% of TipRanks' stock pros. The investor doesn't question Nvidia's fundamental strength. In fact, he believes the long-term growth story remains intact, especially with a potential catalyst on the horizon: sovereign AI. These country-specific systems, tailored to local regulations, have been championed by CEO Jensen Huang for years. The recent U.S. government adoption of AI tools like Elon Musk's Grok may be just the beginning of a broader global push. If sovereign AI gains traction, demand for Nvidia's chips could scale even faster than current forecasts suggest. However, Green tempers expectations by pointing out supply constraints. Nvidia likely won't be able to manufacture chips fast enough to meet soaring global demand, which naturally limits its growth trajectory. What's more concerning to Green, as noted, is how much more expensive the stock has become from a valuation perspective. In April, Nvidia had the third-lowest Forward Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio among the Magnificent 7 at 21.31x. It now holds the second-highest at 39.75x. 'If you own it, hold it and enjoy the ride, if not, I'd personally wait for better prices as the market basks in giddiness,' Green concludes, rating NVDA shares a Hold (i.e., Neutral). (To watch Green's track record, click here) Wall Street, meanwhile, maintains a bullish stance. NVDA holds a Strong Buy consensus, backed by 34 Buy ratings versus just 3 Holds and a single Sell. However, the average price target of $182.06 implies only ~6% upside from current levels, suggesting that while sentiment remains positive, much of the expected growth may already be priced in. It will be interesting to see whether analysts revise their targets upward in the coming weeks.
