‘250 doctors mobilized after AI 171 crash'
The response involved a collective effort by over 250 doctors.
Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, said that all departments of Civil Hospital and BJ Medical College came together soon after the tragedy on June 12 and worked round the clock on different aspects, ranging from providing treatment to the injured to conducting postmortems.
"The scale of the tragedy was huge. Everybody worked for hours at a stretch. From forming SOPs for foreign nationals to ensuring the storage and handing over of the mortal remains, the processes were streamlined, and doctors did not look at the clock when duty came calling," said Dr Joshi.

Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said the state govt was consistently working to provide better resources to the doctors and quality healthcare services to the citizens. While there were only six medical colleges in 2014, the number has now increased to 15, and nine new colleges are under construction. As a result, MBBS seats in the state increased from 700 in 2014 to 2,185, at present. The state govt aims to increase the MBBS seats to over 3,400 by 2029, said Saini. The CM was addressing a gathering as the chief guest at an event organised on National Doctors' Day by the Derabassi Medical Association in Chandigarh. He appreciated the significant contribution of the Derabassi Medical Association in the field of human service, mentioning that a free dialysis centre has been operational at Chaurasia Hospital for the last two years. Extending greetings and best wishes to all doctors, healthcare workers, and those associated with the medical field on National Doctors' Day, Saini said they were the "true servants of humanity". Their spirit of service, dedication, and sensitivity plays a vital role in building a healthy, safe, and empowered society, he added. The CM emphasised that the govt's objective was to ensure that every doctor had access to adequate resources and every citizen received proper treatment. He said, to strengthen the medical infrastructure, the number of postgraduate seats was increased from 289 to 1,043. In addition, there are 155 seats for PG diplomas, he said. He also elaborated upon the upgrade of healthcare facilities in govt-run hospitals of the state as well as the facilities for the poor and elderly seeking free treatment in private hospitals. The CM said this year's theme for Doctors' Day was "Caring for the caregivers behind the mask". This theme inspires us to appreciate doctors not only for their professional services, but also for their contribution to human welfare. It calls for understanding and fulfilling their needs, he said. He recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the entire country was indoors, doctors stood by patients wearing the PPE kits while staying away from their families. 1 2 Nagpur: Unity among doctors is the strength that helps us safeguard our profession, ensure ethical practice, and serve society better, said Dr Ravi Chavan, dean of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH), as he addressed the gathering during the Doctors' Day celebrations organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nagpur Branch, on Tuesday. Health Minister presents awards to doctors
Health Minister Ma. Subramanian presented awards to doctors in two separate events held in line with the National Doctors' Day on Tuesday. At an event organised by the Health department, he presented awards to 50 doctors - 12 each from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research and Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, 13 from Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services, seven from Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, three from Indian Medical Association and three private sector doctors. He lauded the contributions made by doctors, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Member of Legislative Assembly (Thousand Lights) Ezhilan Naganathan was present. Rotary District 3234 organised an awards ceremony on the occasion of National Doctors' Day to honour individuals for their contributions to the field of medicine and to recognise institutions for their outstanding healthcare services. Mr. Subramanian presented the various awards on the occasion. 'Rotary Excellence Awards for Distinguished Doctors' were presented to H.V. Hande, Prathap C. Reddy, Mohamed Rela, Devi Prasad Shetty, C.
