We definitely have to go to work here on our race car because I didn't really like it, but it's a good sign that we didn't like it and we were still pretty quick there. Hopefully we can take advantage of it. I've seen Kasey Kahne win and Dale and others win from the Open and stuff. Maybe we can take that advantage of having this notebook and move forward early and be able to take this Chevy up front.'
John Hunter Nemechek — Second: 'We have a shot to go win a million dollars. Hats off to this No. 42 team. We unloaded and we had good two- or three-lap speed, but no longer on pace. Proud of them for the effort they put in yesterday and what they were able to find, and pitting there at that last deal, I knew I couldn't win from where I was at. We came and got two (tires) and that helped us out. Hats off to the whole 42 team. Proud of the effort.'
Ryan Preece — 11th after restart box violation: 'It's really nonexistent from inside the car. You can't see it. So I just hooked a hard left going acoss the line, figuring it's in that area. I'm frustrated because if you have a situation like that, put a cone out there so we can see it. Our Ford Mustang was super fast, could run in the way top, get around guys and I think we were the only one that was making some waves. Frusrated, man. We were in position here. Heartbreaking to have a heartbreaking run like that taken away by someone in the (NASCAR scoring) tower.'
Shane van Gisbergen — 13th after leading 54 laps from the pole position: 'I don't know whether to smile or cry. It's been a dismal year for us. But I feel like we're getting better every week. This shows it. It was awesome to lead some laps. I was out front driving like a grandma and felt like it was easy. But I still felt like the tires were going to off. We took four. Once I was back there, no grip, and I put myself in some bad spots, too. It was awesome to lead laps. We're getting better.'

Major League Soccer announced Friday that Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Jorda Alba will be suspended for the team's next match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday. The suspension comes after Messi and Alba skipped the MLS All-Star Game without permission earlier this week in Austin, Texas. 'Per league rules, any player who does not participate in the All-Star Game without prior approval from the league is ineligible to compete in their club's next match,' MLS said in a statement. Neither Inter Miami nor the two players responded immediately to request for comment on the suspensions. 'I know Lionel Messi loves this league. 'I fully understand, respect, and admire his commitment to Inter Miami, and I respect his decision. 'Unfortunately, we have a long-standing policy regarding participation in the All-Star Game, and we had to enforce it. It was a very difficult decision.' Garber concluded by saying that league will work with the MLS players to take a 'hard look' at the policy moving forward. The 38-year-old Messi and 36-year-old Alba have both played a heavy slate of matches this season, competing in MLS play as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and other competitions. Messi also played this summer for his native Argentina in pair of friendlies. An already stout test for Inter this weekend now becomes even more daunting as the team, which sits in the middle of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, will compete without their centerpiece Messi as they face conference-leading Cincinnati. Messi and Alba will be eligible to return to the pitch on Wednesday when Inter takes on Atlas as the club begins its Leagues Cup campaign. Miami's next MLS match is scheduled for August 10 when the club will take on intrastate rival Orlando City SC.

For the White Sox, it's about retooling for the future. State of play: Watch for the Cubs to make deals for pitchers and a third baseman to fortify their roster for a deep playoff run. Yes, but: A slew of teams are in contention, looking to trade for the same positions, making this deadline more competitive than usual. Zoom in: Barring a collapse, the North Siders are playoff-bound. They have possible MVP candidates in Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker, but have dealt with some injuries, most notably losing ace pitcher Justin Steele for the season. The intrigue: The Cubs have one of the best minor league systems in baseball. If they want to make a splash and trade for a superstar, they have better prospects than most other teams to give in return. Outfielder Owen Caissie is one of the best in the minor leagues. The most notable name is Luis Robert Jr. He's had an awful season, but has turned it around in the last few weeks. It may be enough for the Sox to get a good deal in return. The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds are rumored to be interested. Also, journeyman pitchers Adrian Houser and Aaron Civale could bring back some young players for the future.
