2 dead, over 40 injured after electric shock triggers stampede at UP temple
According to local eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred around 3 am when a large crowd of devotees had assembled at the temple in Haidergarh for the jalabhishek ritual.District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi informed that the electric current was caused by an old electric wire damaged by monkeys."Devotees had gathered here for darshan on the third Monday of Sawan. Some monkeys jumped onto the overhead electric wires, causing them to fall onto the tin shed. As a result, around 19 people received electric shocks. The live wire caused an electric current to spread rapidly through the metal structure, triggering chaos and panic among the devotees.Police forces were already present at the temple at the time of the incident. An investigation is underway.Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and instructed the officials to provide immediate relief and ensure proper medical care for the injured.This is the second such incident in two days. Earlier, on Sunday, a stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar claimed eight lives and left 30 injured, after panic broke out among pilgrims following rumours of an electric current near the stairway entrance.Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal confirmed that the chaos erupted during a heavy rush of devotees climbing to the hilltop shrine. The temple, situated over 500 feet up in the Shivalik hills, had seen a large turnout due to the weekend crowd.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.- Ends

Two women were killed and three people injured after a number of devotees fell at a religious gathering in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), police said. According to the police, the incident took place around 12 p.m. at Kubereshwar Dham of religious preacher Pradip Mishra due to overcrowding at the ashram. Mr. Mishra, a popular religious figure, is scheduled to take out a Kanwar Yatra from his ashram on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) and had called upon devotees to join him, resulting in large crowds at the ashram. Sehore Additional Superintendent of Police Sunita Rawat told The Hindu that during the distribution of Rudraksha (prayer beads), a woman in the front of a queue fainted and collapsed, due to which some other people also fell, causing injuries to some. 'There was no stampede but some people in a queue had fallen, leading to the incident,' Ms. Rawat said, adding that two people received minor injuries while one woman is currently critical. The Additional SP said that the victims are yet to be identified. Another senior officer said that about 50,000 to 60,000 devotees have been coming to the ashram every day during the month of Sawan, and that most of them hail from outside Madhya Pradesh. 'The responsibility of arrangements inside the ashram is on the management. The police and the administration had no role there. Outside the ashram, we have deployed over 400 police personnel for security but we have no role inside,' the officer said, requesting anonymity. 'Before reaching the ashram, they had gone to a river stream nearby to collect holy water by travelling 12 kilometres each side, and after that they stood in line amid the heat and humidity. This may have been the reason of the woman's fainting,' he added.

‘Malegaon Files': Film On 2008 Malegaon Blast Case Announced, To Be Directed By Rajiv S Ruia
Mumbai: A film based on the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case has been announced and has been titled 'Malegaon Files'. 'My Friend Ganesha' fame director Rajiv S Ruia will be directing the film, which is currently in the pre-production stage. The cast and crew of the movie have not been revealed yet by the makers. The film will be produced by Sahil Seth under the banner of Cinedust 18 Films Pvt. Ltd. According to a press note shared by the makers, the film aims to present a gripping and sensitive portrayal of the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts, which shook the nation and led to a long, complicated legal battle. "This is not just a story about a blast -- it's about what followed. The human stories, the political shadow, the search for truth, and the emotional and legal turmoil faced by the accused and the victims' families. 'Malegaon Files' is our attempt to bring that reality to the screen," director Rajiv S Ruia, said about the film in the press note. Ruia told ANI that the film is currently in the pre-production stage and will be shot on real locations. "Our writer team is in talks. It is a very sensitive subject. Every detail behind it needs to be brought out. Research is going on...99 per cent we will shoot on real locations. We will do recce soon," he said. According to the press note, the makers stated that the script is being developed with inputs from investigative reports, court documents, and real testimonies to ensure that the narrative remains grounded and respectful. The film is slated to go on floors by late 2025, with more details about the cast and shooting schedule expected to be revealed soon. The Malegaon blast tragedy took place on September 29, 2008 in which six people were killed and 95 others injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Malegaon City's Bhikku Chowk. Originally, 11 people were accused in the case; however, the court ultimately framed charges against 7, including former MP Sadhvi Pragya. The Mumbai NIA court on July 31 acquitted all seven accused of being involved in the 2008 blasts in Malegaon, with the court saying the prosecution failed to establish the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The 2008 Malegaon blast case was transferred to the NIA in 2011 from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). After a 17-year-long wait and examination of hundreds of witnesses, the NIA special court acquitted all seven people accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and all other charges.
