Is the Duolingo owl death connected to the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef?
If you're unfamiliar with Duolingo, it's a lovely tool that teaches you how to speak different languages. It's really cool because Duolingo tries to make it engaging as people learn.
So, in other words, the company doesn't take themselves too seriously.
They like to have fun, which might explain their seemingly unhinged posts in the weeks before the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Here's what we mean.
About two weeks before Kendrick Lamar took the stage, Duolingo dropped a wild post trolling Drake while referencing a song—'BBL Drizzy' (Warning: NSFW language)—that also trolls the rapper.
glad i'm not the only owl with a BBL on this list https://t.co/RY7KS0TCIo

On the day of the show, they trolled him again, very similar to the way Kendrick did during his set.
But they weren't done. Duolingo cranked out even more jokes, including a viral meme from Kendrick's 'Not Like Us' performance.
However, it went downhill fast. Duo, the green owl mascot, seen in much of the company's content, suddenly died.

And things got weird. Without much explanation, TSA got involved.
Then, Duo was given a funeral and an obituary a short time later with a sly note that the team was investigating 'Jimmy'—a possible nod to Wheelchair Jimmy, the nickname for Drake's character on Degrassi.
We're currently investigating Jimmy.

So many people were distraught over Duo, including Dua Lipa.

However, a cause of death has been identified, with more details on the way.
UPDATE: Officials have identified cause of death. More details to follow.
Thank you for holding space for Dualingo. 💚 https://t.co/cecyD6KIHi

Was Drake involved? Was it someone else? No one knows.

Dua Lipa's Tour Pushes Her Latest Album Back To The Charts
Dua Lipa's Radical Optimism reenters five U.K. charts after her concerts in London and Liverpool, as ... More the underperforming project returns. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 04: Dua Lipa attends the 66th GRAMMY Awards at Arena on February 04, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor The Recording Academy) Throughout the latter part of June, Dua Lipa brought her Radical Optimism Tour to the United Kingdom, where she remains one of the biggest pop stars of all time. The singer touched down for two shows at Wembley Stadium in London on June 20 and 21, then moved to Liverpool before flying to Ireland for one night in Dublin, all before taking some time off. Her return to the U.K. reignited interest in Radical Optimism, which has become a major hit on the charts once more. Thanks to all the excitement generated by her concert trek, the full-length appears on five charts in the U.K. at the moment. It didn't claim a spot on any of them just days ago, but it manages to reenter all five at the same time. Radical Optimism Returns to the Top 40 Among all five of those tallies, Radical Optimism only reaches the top 40 on one list, the Official Album Downloads ranking, where it breaks back in at No. 28. The set returns in similar positions on the Official Albums Sales, Official Albums Streaming and Official Physical Albums charts, where it comes in at Nos. 46, 47, and 50, respectively. Dua Lipa's Shortest-Charting Album Most of Lipa's albums have spent hundreds of weeks on the rankings, but Radical Optimism easily stands out as her worst performer. The singer's most recent project has not managed a year on any tally, and may never make it to that milestone. The full-length has only pushed past half a year on a few lists, as the set has experienced the shortest stay of her career. Dua Lipa's Album Hit No. 1 Almost Everywhere While it hasn't held on for very long, Radical Optimism was a quick win. The full-length reached No. 1 on all but the Official Albums Streaming chart, where it missed the mark by just one spot. Dua Lipa's Entire Discography Rises As Radical Optimism enjoys an impressive comeback, both of the Grammy winner's other two full-lengths also rise. Dua Lipa and Future Nostalgia appear on the same trio of tallies – the Official Albums, Official Albums Streaming and the Official Album Downloads charts, soaring in some instances and returning in others.

The Grammys Chief on How AI Will Change Music
An AI-generated song using fake vocals from Drake and the Weeknd went viral two years ago, racking up millions of listens across Spotify, YouTube and TikTok before being removed. The episode rattled the music business, demonstrating how the rapidly progressing technology could upend long-held standards, protections and processes. Since then, the music industry has been grappling with how to use AI to generate growth while battling with tech giants who say they should be able to freely train their models on record companies' vast intellectual property. Harvey Mason Jr., chief executive of the Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards, is among those on the front lines as the industry pushes for legislation aimed at protecting artists from having their voices, images and likenesses used in AI-generated digital replicas without their consent. Mason, a songwriter and producer who has worked with Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber and written music for hit movies, looks toward the future both as a music executive and a musician. 'AI's here; it's not going anywhere,' Mason says. 'At the end of the day, we have to make stuff that the computer can't make.' He spoke with The Wall Street Journal about his hopes and fears for AI in the record business.
