India's ICICI Prudential Asset files for IPO at $12 billion valuation, sources say

Business Recorder14 hours ago
ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company has filed for a $1.2 billion IPO at a valuation of $12 billion, two sources said on Wednesday, as India's second-largest mutual fund manager by assets joins a slew of firms looking to go public.
The asset manager is a joint venture between India's second-largest private lender, ICICI Bank, which holds a 51% stake, and British insurer Prudential, which owns the remaining 49%.
The IPO will consist of an offer for sale of up to 10% of ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company's equity share capital by Prudential Corporation Holdings Limited (PCHL), a subsidiary of Prudential.
A recovery in India's markets in May and June has boosted demand for IPOs, with companies expected to raise about $2.4 billion from such issues in July alone.
Separately, Prudential said PCHL has entered into an agreement with ICICI Bank to sell up to 2% of the asset manager's stake to ICICI ahead of the IPO.
India mutual fund investors chase equities, gold and silver in quest for returns
In February, Prudential had said it was considering listing its Indian joint venture.
ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company's profit for the year ended March 31, 2025 was up 29.3% as income from fees and commission rose 38.7%.
The increase in fees and commissions was primarily due to a rise in total annual average assets under management to 9.01 trillion rupees ($105.08 billion) from 6.46 trillion rupees in the previous year, according to the draft papers.
ICICI Prudential AMC did not respond to a Reuters request seeking comment.
Morgan Stanley India, Axis Capital, BofA Securities India, Citigroup Global Markets India are among the book-running lead managers of the offering.

Indian rupee likely to open slightly higher, tracking Asia; Trump tariff impact muted

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee is likely to open marginally higher on Thursday, supported by the uptick in Asian peers and muted reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump's latest tariff announcements. The 1-month non-deliverable forward indicated the rupee will open at 85.60-85.62 compared with 85.6725 in the previous session. The rupee has fluctuated between 85.30 and just below 86 over the past week, testing both sides of its recent range. In recent sessions, the rupee has been 'choppy within a well-defined range,' a currency trader at a private bank said. 'The consensus trade right now—both among corporates and interbank—is to buy USD/INR near 85.20–85.40 and sell near 85.90–86.10,' the trader said. 'It makes sense when you consider that there have been no major trigger points.' Trump's tariffs Investors largely shrugged off U.S. President Donald Trump's latest tariff salvo. Having already announced a 50% tariff on copper imports, Trump said the levies would take effect from August 1. Further, he threatened a punitive 50% tariff on Brazil's exports to the United States, while issuing tariff notices to seven smaller trading partners. Asian currencies and shares rose, indicating waning market sensitivity to Trump's tariff moves. The dollar index inched lower. Meanwhile, minutes of the Federal Reserve's June meeting showed narrow support for rate cut later this month. Most participants at the Fed's meeting did anticipate rate cuts would be appropriate later this year, with any price shock from tariffs expected to be 'temporary or modest'. MUFG Bank noted that, looking ahead, the market's attention may shift toward the Fed's policy path, which will be key to shaping the dollar's trajectory.

In a separate engagement, Turkish Defence Minister Guler met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at the Air Headquarters to assess the state of bilateral defence cooperation and discuss emerging regional threats. He also emphasised the importance of joint ventures in disruptive technologies, including unmanned aerial systems, advanced avionics and pilot exchange programs. Both sides pledged to enhance joint air exercises and finalise plans for more intensive training cooperation. The ISPR said that the meeting reflected the "shared commitment of both the brotherly nations to enhance strategic cooperation, solidify defence ties and promote lasting institutional linkages between the Armed Forces of Pakistan and Turkiye".

IPL value surges to $18.5bn: report

The Indian Premier League's business value has been estimated at $18.5 billion with reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru its wealthiest franchise, according to a report by an investment bank. The world's richest cricket tournament has been a top revenue earner for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and in 2020 was estimated to generate more than $11 billion a year for the Indian economy. According to US investment bank Houlihan Lokey, which has valued several sports franchises around the world, the brand value of the 10-team T20 franchise tournament has seen a sharp rise of 13.8 percent to $3.9 billion over the past year. Bengaluru, who along with star player Virat Kohli won their first IPL title this year, have overtaken five-time winners Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to achieve a brand value of $269 million. Mumbai is second with $242 million, followed by Chennai at $235 million. The Houlihan Lokey report called the IPL "a global phenomenon" that has become more than just a cricket league. "The IPL continues to set benchmarks in sports business. Franchise valuations have soared, media rights deals have reached record highs, and brand partnerships have diversified across sectors," Harsh Talikoti from Houlihan Lokey, said in a statement. "The league's ability to attract global investors and sponsors reflects its status as a premier sports property with enduring appeal." Bengaluru beat Punjab Kings for the title at the world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad in June to conclude the 18th edition of the league. The report said the 2025 final had more than 678 million views on the official streaming platform JioHotstar, surpassing the India-Pakistan clash during the Champions Trophy in February this year. The IPL, which is broadcast around the world and features top international stars such as Australia's Pat Cummins and England's Jos Buttler, mixes sport and showbusiness in a glitzy format, with a number of teams fronted by Bollywood movie superstars. Since it launched in 2008 it has inspired a range of other franchise-based leagues in India in sports as diverse as boxing, badminton, poker and kabaddi, and spawned copycat cricket tournaments elsewhere.
