PM Modi arrives in Alberta to attend G7 Summit
He will be participating in G7 discussions on energy security, infrastructure and investment among other issues, besides holding bilateral talks on the sidelines.
The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X:
'At the invitation of PM @MarkJCarney, PM @narendramodi
arrives in Alberta, Canada for the G7 Summit.
'PM will be participating in @G7 discussions on the future of energy security, including diversification, technology, infrastructure and investment, to ensure access and affordability in a changing world.
'PM will also hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines.'
Notably, PM Modi arrived in Canada after his two-day visit to Cyprus.
The world leaders attending the G7 Summit include US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen is also attending.
The special invitees to the summit include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Presidents of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korea Lee Jae-myung, South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UAE's Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Canada assumed presidency of the G7 on January 1, 2025, for the seventh time. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the G7 Summit.

TUNBERRY, UK: US President Donald Trump and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen were set for make-or-break talks in Scotland Sunday, aimed at ending a months-long transatlantic trade standoff, as negotiations went down to the wire. Trump has said he sees a one-in-two chance of a deal with the European Union, which faces an across-the-board US levy of 30 percent unless it strikes a trade pact by August 1 -- with Washington warning Sunday there would be "no extensions." Von der Leyen's European Commission, negotiating on behalf of EU countries, is pushing hard for a deal to salvage a trading relationship worth an annual $1.9 trillion in goods and services. According to an EU diplomat briefed ahead of the meeting, set for 4:30 pm (1530 GMT), the contours of a deal are in place after talks went late into Saturday night -- but key issues still need settling. And of course the final word lies with Trump. "A political deal is on the table -- but it needs the sign-off from Trump, who wants to negotiate this down to the very last moment," the diplomat told AFP. The proposal, they said, involves a baseline levy of around 15 percent on EU exports to the United States -- the level secured by Japan -- with carve-outs for critical sectors including aircraft and spirits, though not for wine. Any deal will need to be approved by EU member states -- whose ambassadors, on a visit to Greenland, were updated by the commission Sunday morning, and would meet again after any accord. Farmers protest in Manapparai to get PM's attention to their demands
Members of the Desiya Thenninthiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam led a protest in Manapparai on Sunday, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, to highlight the challenges faced by farmers. The protest, led by P. Ayyakannu, was held near Manapparai bus stand. They demanded loan waivers from nationalised banks, sanction of crop loans without insisting on CIBIL score, timely disbursal of fresh loans, and higher support prices. Mr. Ayyakannu urged action on interlinking of southern rivers, sanction of monthly pension to farmers, 24-hour three-phase electricity, installation of highway CCTV cameras to curb theft, and stronger support for agriculture. The protesters were detained by Manapparai Town police.
