'Those affected to visit Sassa offices'
Speaking to The Citizen on Monday, Sassa Senior Manager for Media Relations Andile Tshona confirmed that grants review process are still ongoing.
Tshona added that there is a possibility some beneficiaries will be affected by payment delays again in August.
'We would like to appeal to those affected to visit the Sassa local offices to undertake the review process,' he said.
SMSes are being issued to the beneficiaries who are expected to undergo the review process, though, due to technical issues such as changing of number, not all will receive messages.
'We also ask that beneficiaries need to have their personal details updated with Sassa to make communication with them better,' Tshona added.
Tshona urged beneficiaries to start the process of appointing procurators, also known as power of attorney's to act on their behalf, if they are unable to go to Sassa offices.

August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants PAID this week
August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants to four-million beneficiaries are payable this week. However, as a form of cost-cutting, August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants will be subject to strict income and identity verification. As such, the agency has added a fourth payment date to the cycle for those who need to verify their details. The South African Social Security Agency confirms that August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants will be paid tomorrow – Tuesday 5 August 2025. Moreover, those recipients who have had their monthly grants reviewed and rectified will be paid on Friday 8 August 2025. A fourth payment date is being added to the cycle from this month onwards. Image: File Traditionally, SASSA gave three months' notice in writing before a grant review took place. However, following above-inflation grant increases back in April 2025, and the appointment of a new CEO, Temba Matlou, the department has started withholding grants first, and asking questions later. It is understood the agency has already withheld more than a quarter of a million social grants since May 2025 and increased the all-important asset and means tests eligibility. Of course, the agency insists that no grants have been suspended but merely withheld till verification is complete. So, how does it work? Affected beneficiaries have three months to come forward to SASSA and prove their personal income/assets are in order. The new limitations for 'core' grants (since April 2025) are as follows: GRANT INCOME BEFORE INCOME NOW Older Person, Disability and War Veterans R101 640 (single) R107 800 (single) R203 380 (married) R215 760 (married) Child Support R63 600 (single) R67 200 (single) R127 200 (married) R134 300 (married) Child Care Dependency (Disability for u/18s) R261 800 (household) R277 200 (household) Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R624 unchanged *figures are annual, so divide by 12 for a per-month figure Unfortunately, anyone visiting a SASSA office to verify their August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants is in for a rude surprise. Reports are that SASSA branches are being overwhelmed by people simply trying to rectify these reviews. And no other business is being transacted their currently. In fact, the SASSA CEO called for all senior staff to pull their weight and assist beneficiaries this week. If you're selected for income and/or asset review, you'll need the following: A recent/valid three-month bank statement. Valid work payslip. Copy of your ID (plus your child's ID if applicable). Proof of residence (no older than three months). Those who have been earning a little extra on the side are coming under closer scrutiny from SASSA. Image: File Note that the agency cross-references all your income details and can therefore calculate the exact month, and by how much, you're overstepping its income criteria. Therefore, if you cannot prove your innocence, you will have to pay back the money in full to the government. This can be done by either paying the money in one full lump sum. Or you may arrange a debit order that goes off each month through your bank. Plus, the agency offers a lay-away system, but this will accrue interest and end up costing you more over the long term. Even though it's too late for this week's August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants, here's how you can apply for future months: Only over 60s qualify for SASSA Older Person Grants. qualify for SASSA Older Person Grants. Bring an official RSA identity document (ID). Provide all documents proving your marital status. Supply a proof of residence (a utility bill with your name on it). Show all proof of income and/or financial dividends. Bring any information regarding assets, valuation of property. You must declare any private pension in your name. Provide a valid three months' statement certified by your bank (no older than three months'). Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) membership book, or discharge certificate from your previous employer. A copy of your will, and first and final liquidation and distribution accounts if your spouse has passed away in the last five years. If you are denied August 2025 SASSA Older Person Grants, you do have 90 days to lodge an appeal with the Department of Social Development (DSD) by clicking HERE.
