Arsenal to make significant loss as they begin talks to sell £35m flop
After three consecutive runner-up finishes in the Premier League, Arsenal are going all out this summer transfer window in an attempt to end their two-decade long wait for a league title.
So far the Gunners have spent just shy of £200m on six new players, including Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.
More could arrive at the Emirates before deadline day, with the likes of Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet linked.
But in order to pursue these deals, Arsenal need to cash-in on several unwanted stars who have failed to make the grade under Arteta.

This includes Fabio Vieira, who was tipped for big things when he signed from Porto three years ago but has since made just five Premier League starts.
Injuries, the form of Martin Odegaard and the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri, saw the attacking midfielder slip down the pecking order, and he was sent back to Porto on loan last season.
But despite making 42 appearances across all competitions, the Portuguese giants have opted not to re-sign the 25-year-old.
The midfielder did not go on Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia due to his participation at the Club World Cup with Porto earlier this summer, but it has long been know that his future is not in north London.
However, Vieira has now been offered an escape route, with The Athletic reporting that Stuttgart have approached Arsenal and are working on a deal for the player.
Appearances: 49
Goals: 3
Assists: 10
Trophies: Community Shield (2023)
Vieira has two years left on his contract and it has been previously reported that Arsenal would be willing to accept an offer of around £17m – half what they signed the Portuguese for. More Trending
Stuttgart finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season but can offer Europa League football after winning the German Cup.
Now back from their Asia tour, Arsenal have two more pre-season friendlies, where Vieira's involvement or lack thereof could confirm the transfer speculation.
The Gunners take on Villarreal on Wednesday and Athletic Bilbao on Sunday – both at the Emirates – before kicking-off the new Premier League campaign away to Manchester United on August 17.

Third Premier League club joins race for Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling's future lies away from Chelsea and there is no shortage of interest in him, with three Premier League clubs in the race for his signature. The 30-year-old was axed from the first team at Stamford Bridge a year ago, informed that he was no longer in contention to play under manager Enzo Maresca. The England international secured an ideal move across London to join Arsenal, but that season-long deal did not work out brilliantly. Sterling made little impact with the Gunners, scoring just one goal in the Carabao Cup, and there was no interest from the north London club in making the move permanent. Now back at Chelsea but not training with the first team, the Blues are very keen to get rid of him and the winger wants to find somewhere to play. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. TalkSPORT report that three Premier League clubs hold an interest in the former Liverpool and Manchester City star, with West Ham joining Crystal Palace and Fulham in considering a move. With Sterling reportedly keen to stay in London, he appears very likely to get his wish, although any deal is made somewhat complicated by the player's huge wages. The 82-cap England international reportedly earns £325,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, an amount which will not be covered by any of the interested Premier League clubs. Juventus have also been credited with an interest in Sterling, but staying in the Premier League remains the most likely outcome. The likes of Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi are in the same situation as Sterling at Chelsea, banished from first team activities and are hoping to secure moves away as soon as possible. RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons is also expected to make the move to west London, while the Blues are also linked with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. There will be outgoings before the window closes as well, with Armando Broja set to join Burnley on a permanent deal, while Chelsea are open to offers for Jackson and Nkunku. Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also on the verge of joining Everton after making 36 appearances in all competitions in his one season at Chelsea. Rio Ferdinand gives verdict on Mikel Arteta transfer activity after decision to splash £48.5m
Mikel Arteta raised a few eyebrows this summer when he made Chelsea star Noni Madueke one of his top targets, but Rio Ferdinand has defended the Arsenal boss over the signing of the 23-year-old Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has backed Mikel Arteta's decision to splash out £48.5 million on England star Noni Madueke. Madueke joined the Gunners from Chelsea last month to a mixed reaction from Arsenal supporters. While plenty welcomed him to the club, some were left disappointed by the 23-year-old's arrival, with one fan even setting up an online petition branded as #NOTOMADUEKE. While many other supporters condemned the petition, it ultimately gathered thousands of signatures as some fans seemed opposed to the club seeking out another winger before locking down a new striker. Since Madueke, 23, joined the club, Arsenal have also finally secured the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a £63.7 million deal, following a drawn out transfer saga. Discussing Arsenal's summer acquisitions with Joel Beya on the ex-United defender's podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents, Ferdinand praised the signing of Madueke, claiming the player was a victim of circumstance by simply coming in through the door ahead of Gyokeres. "[Martin] Zubimendi has come in, you lost Thomas Partey (released), Jorginho (signed for Flamengo) gone, that's two midfielders you've there. [Kieran, joined Celtic] Tierney, [Nuno, joined Lazio] Tavares gone... a lot was made about Madueke as well," Ferdinand said. "I think he's a good signing, he's a little bit off the cuff. He gives you something different, and I know what people are saying, yes it's Chelsea, and you've done a lot of business that's not gone so well with Chelsea, and two, [the Arsenal ] fanbase wanted a number nine. "So if you had signed Gyokeres before Madueke, I don't think people are shouting as much." Ferdinand added: "I think Madueke has got a high ceiling. I think he can go places, do well. I think he's a really good addition." Discussing just where Madueke, a winger who can operate on both flanks, will fit into Arteta's plans, Ferdinand believes he can operate as an understudy for Bukayo Saka and challenge Gabriel Martinelli on the left. "Now [Arsenal] have got a number nine, Madueke on the left makes sense," he said. "Because he can go on the outside and cross the ball, you've got a number nine with presence in the box who can finish things off so I think it makes sense in many ways now. I think there's a clearer playing style at Arsenal that might suit him." Ferdinand was also on hand to praise Arsenal's capture of Gyokeres, yet did sound a warning over a stat that demonstrated how the Swedish striker operated somewhat as a flat-track bully in Portugal's top division last year. Gyokeres clinched the golden boot In the Primeira Liga last season with 39 goals, while Sporting won a second successive title. However, he only scored twice in eight league games against Benfica, who finished in second, Porto who finished third and against Braga and Santa Clara, who ended up fourth and fifth respectively. "That would be a flag for me," Ferdinand said on Gyokeres' record. "I don't think it would determine if I'd take him, but it would be something where I'd go, 'Let me just look back further down the line' - and then what's the reason? "There are question marks, but I just feel, for Arsenal, he's going to get so many more looks on goal, I don't think it's a big gamble for Arsenal. As long as he doesn't go looking for football outside the box too much. Stay in and around the penalty box and the ball will come."
