Why is Eminem Suing Meta for USD 109 Million? Inside Rapper's Fight Over 243 Songs
Eminem's publishing company, Eight Mile Style, has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The lawsuit, filed on May 30 and obtained by E! News on June 3, accuses Meta of copyright infringement.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, claims that Meta allowed the unauthorized use of 243 of his songs across its platforms. According to the court documents, Meta's features, such as Original Audio and Reels, make it easy for users to take clips of Eminem's music without permission.
The lawsuit states that these tools allow and encourage users to steal his tracks for use in videos without proper attribution or license. As a result, Eight Mile Style is seeking more than USD 109 million in damages.
Why is Eminem suing Meta platforms?
Eminem alleges that Meta violated his copyright by storing, reproducing and exploiting his songs without authorization. The filing demands damages for the diminished value of the copyrights, lost profits and any profits Meta earned from the infringement.
Alternatively, he asked for the maximum statutory damages of USD 150,000 per song across all Meta platforms, which adds up to USD 109,350,000.
The lawsuit explains that users can easily search for Eminem's tracks on Facebook and Instagram, and then apply them to their Reels or Stories. Without proper licensing or credit, these uses harm the value of the original recordings. In the filing, Eminem's team lists each of the 243 songs in his catalog, which includes hits like Love the Way You Lie.
Eminem has often shared how important music is to his mental health. 'One of the great things about rap music is that you could put so much of your life in it,' he said during an interview on Shade 45's Sway In The Morning in June 2022. 'It's therapeutic and that's how it's always been for me.' His lyrics frequently touch on his difficult childhood and personal struggles.
The lawsuit also comes as Eminem continues to protect his artistic legacy. The Detroit rapper has a long history of taking legal action to defend his music rights. His decision to sue Meta echoes past battles over copyrights and royalties.

B Pharma student among 3 arrested for online fraud
Lucknow: UP STF on Friday arrested three persons, including a B Pharma student, from Bhopal for a cyber scam in which they lured victims through social media platforms by promising handsome returns on completing fake "tasks. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " The trio was arrested from Danish Nagar, Hoshangabad Road, in a joint operation with Amethi Police. STF ASP Vishal Vikram Singh said: "Victims were invited to join private Telegram groups via fraudulent links, where they were enticed to complete small digital 'tasks' in exchange for inflated financial rewards. Initial earnings were credited into fake wallets to build trust, but as victims invested more, they were trapped in an endless cycle of deposits, losing lakhs in the process." Those arrested included the alleged mastermind and a B Pharma student at Bhabha University, Bhopal, Shivansh Mishra (22) of Shahdol (MP). His childhood friend Ravi Singh (23) also from Shahdol, and maternal uncle Umashankar Tiwari (43) of Bhopal were also arrested. Police also seized three mobiles, 16 debit cards, 15 cheque books, nine bank passbooks and 359 screenshots of incriminating WhatsApp conversations related to cyber fraud, one PAN card, one driving licence, and one IGT Solutions employee ID card. One of the complainants, Ashish Vikram Singh from Amethi, filed an FIR, detailing how he was targeted. Ashish received a Facebook link promoting a "work-from-home reward scheme." Upon clicking, he was added to a Telegram group where he was assigned digital tasks. After depositing Rs10,000, he received a bonus of Rs 2,512, giving the appearance of legitimacy. Encouraged, Ashish completed 28 rounds of "tasks". At one point, a balance of Rs 9.13 lakh appeared in the digital wallet, and he was promised he could withdraw it after completing a final task worth Rs 3.16 lakh. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But when he attempted to withdraw, he was told to deposit additional "security amounts" — first Rs 2.25 lakh, then Rs3 lakh more, and finally Rs 6.3 lakh for "VIP access." Ultimately, he was defrauded of Rs13 lakh. The ASP said Shivansh and Ravi were briefly recruited at a Bhopal call centre operated by IGT Solutions. There, they met cyber fraud recruiters — Zubair Khan, Saif Khan, and Anil Nayar and Amit Nayar — who ran a parallel racket involving rented bank accounts. For every new bank account with full access kits (ATM card, cheque book, SIM card, login credentials), Shivansh and the team were paid Rs15,000 and a share in the illicit earnings. They created nearly 50 bank accounts over the last year, often using forged documents or by convincing acquaintances. These accounts served as primary money mules.

New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): India will continue to grow robustly, even among major industrialised G7 countries, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said in a report on 'Population, Productivity, Partnership: Rethinking G7-India Collaboration'. The PHDCCI report added that with an average real GDP growth of more than 8 per cent from 2021 to 2024, India has consistently outpaced all G7 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. IMF's 2025 projections indicate that India will maintain a growth trajectory above 6 per cent (average) through 2029, supported by robust domestic demand, sound macroeconomic fundamentals, and its demographic dividend, the report said. 'India's consistent real GDP growth makes it the key growth driver for the world economy. The transformative reforms, including GST, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Act, the Production Linked Incentive Scheme, growing digital infrastructure (Aadhaar and UPI) and Make in India, among others, are strengthening India's ascendancy in the World', said Hemant Jain, President, PHDCCI. The objective of the report was to assess India's growth and trade dynamics among G7 economies. In terms of purchasing-power-parity (PPP) terms, India's share in global GDP has surged from 7.0% in 2020 to 8.3 per cent in 2024, and is anticipated to exceed 9 per cent by 2029, he said. A crucial underlying factor is the demographic divergence between India and the G7, said Jain. India's working-age population (15-64 years) is projected to increase in the coming years, with over 68 per cent of its population currently between 15-64 years. This demographic dividend supports labour supply expansion, boosts domestic consumption, and enhances the innovation ecosystem through a vibrant startup culture and rising tertiary education enrolment, said Jain. Further, India's share of the total population ages 65 and above constitutes less than 5 per cent (2025). Conversely, G7 nations are confronting demographic headwinds as their share is more than 10 per cent, highlighting rapidly ageing populations, shrinking labour pools, and rising old-age dependency ratios, said Jain. By 2030, this share is expected to double or more than double for the G7 economies. 'This is likely to slow potential output, reduce consumer demand, and increase fiscal burdens related to pensions and healthcare, said Jain. Notably, India's merchandise trade with G7 countries has surged by 61 per cent, rising from USD 154 billion in FY 2020-21 to USD 248 billion in FY 2024-25, maintaining a steady trade surplus. 'This reflects India's growing export competitiveness, indicated by the commodity net export price index, bolstering its external sector resilience, Jain added. The industry body said in the report that key global initiatives led by India--the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the Global Biofuels Alliance--are shaping a greener, more inclusive world. In the technology and digital governance space, India highlighted its commitment to a human-centric and ethical approach to AI, showcasing initiatives like BHASHINI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as global models. The report added that a strategic collaboration in areas including clean and renewable energy, climate finance, Digital Public Infrastructure, Trade & Supply Chain Resilience, Maritime & Indo-Pacific Security and Healthcare & Pharma will drive a mutually beneficial growth trajectory.
