Kyle Kirkwood talks about big IndyCar victory in Detroit in 2025
Kyle Kirkwood's mistake in qualifying cost him the pole position for the 2025 Detroit Grand Prix, but he made up for it on Sunday afternoon. Kirkwood and the No. 27 team for Andretti Global won the 2025 Detroit Grand Prix in dominant fashion, earning their second victory of the IndyCar season.
The Andretti Global driver had the best race car and was able to pull away from Santino Ferrucci and Colton Herta after the red flag for Felix Rosenqvist and Louis Foster. Following the event, Kirkwood spoke to INDYCAR.com and talked about his big victory on the streets of Detroit in 2025.
'For some reason, the wing was damaged, but it wasn't really causing that much of an issue,' Kirkwood said to INDYCAR.com. 'This AWS Honda was on rails all weekend long. There were some challenges out there, that's for sure. We had to pass our way back through a handful of times, and it was definitely not a walk in the park, especially with that front-wing damage at the end. We did lose a little bit of performance, but the car actually felt fine. Epic pit stops. Epic strategy. We were definitely the fastest.'
Kirkwood's victory was even sweeter after failing post-race inspection for the 2025 Indianapolis 500, putting him deeper in the point standings. The driver of the No. 27 car is the only driver to win a race outside of championship leader Alex Palou, and he hopes his victory in Detroit can lead to more success soon.

Lions sign veteran offensive tackle, waive Raequan Williams
Herron takes over Williams' No. 76 jersey on the roster The Lions have made their first roster move following the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Detroit has signed veteran offensive lineman Justin Herron and released defensive lineman Raequan Williams. Herron, 29, has been around the NFL since 2020, when he was a sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots. He played collegiately at Wake Forest and quickly took over the starting left tackle role in New England as a rookie, but has started just four games in the subsequent four seasons. Herron missed the 2024 season with an injury while a member of the New Orleans Saints. He's also played for the Raiders. Williams had signed with the Lions this spring after a successful tryout at the rookie minicamp. The former Michigan State tackle had not progressed up the depth chart in his quest to get back into the NFL. Per team sources, Herron will take over Williams' No. 76 on the roster. The move comes in the wake of Dan Skipper suffering a sprained left ankle in the exhibition opener. Skipper will miss some practice time. Starting left tackle Taylor Decker is starting positional drills in Sunday's practice.

35 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 35
The New Orleans Saints have 35 days until their 2025 regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. New coach Kellen Moore will lead the Saints into their 59th NFL season. There have been only 16 players to wear No. 35 for New Orleans in a regular season game, with undrafted rookie defensive back Elliott Davison hoping to extend that list. Here's a look at all the players. Saints' History of No. 35 Ted Davis was the first to wear No. 35 as a Saint, suiting up for 38 games over the franchise's first three seasons. It remains the second longest tenure for any player to wear the No. 35 jersey with New Orleans. Of the 16 players that have worn No. 35 in Saints history, Davis is one of only three to do it for more than two years. Jim Otis was the first New Orleans draft pick to wear No. 35, doing it for 13 games in one year after being selected in Round 9 of the 1970 NFL draft. Bob Gresham was drafted in the eighth round the following year. Gresham played 27 games over two seasons, rushing for 764 yards and scoring 9 touchdowns. He is also the highest drafted player by the Saints to wear a No. 35 jersey. During the 1984 season, the Saints traded for future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell. Reunited with Bum Phillips, his coach with the Houston Oilers, it was thought that Campbell would team with George Rogers to give the Saints a lethal rushing attack. Unfortunately, Campbell was no longer the elite punishing power back he was with the Oilers after years of physical toll. Campbell played two years and 24 games for the Saints before retiring. He rushed for 833 yards, but only one score and averaged four yards per carry. The Saints wouldn't have a defensive player wear No. 35 until Shane Pahukoa in 1995. Pahukoa only played one year for the team but did have two interceptions. He was one of nine players to wear No. 35 that did so for a year or less. Of the seven defensive players to wear the jersey, before Elliott Davison potentially this year, only two of them wore it for longer than a year. One of them was Ted Davis. The other was Fakhir Brown. A graduate of Mansfield High School in Louisiana and Grambling State University, Brown was with the Saints for four years. His 56 games are the most for any player to wear No. 35 for New Orleans. As a Saint, Brown had 2 interceptions and broke up 30 passes while forcing 3 fumbles and recovering 4 others. Since Brown, five players have worn 35 in the last 20 years. None of them have been with the Saints into a third season.
