Putra Heights fire: Technical reported expected to be completed on June 26
SHAH ALAM (June 4): The technical report related to the gas pipeline explosion and fire incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya on April 1, is expected to be completed by June 26.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the investigation report will also be aligned with the results of the criminal investigation before being made public.
'We cannot release our criminal investigation now because we need to combine it with the technical investigation as there are still areas that need to be identified from the criminal investigation,' he said when met after an e-Bike Handover Ceremony at the Selangor Police Contingent headquarters here yesterday.
He said the technical investigation under the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) also covers the integrity of the pipes, ground movement, and determines whether any activities in the area exert pressure on the gas pipeline.
On May 27, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the police as well as the DOSH investigation reports regarding the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights are expected to be released by the end of June.
Hussein said the police investigation also covering aspects of negligence or sabotage, had been completed, and they are waiting for the DOSH to complete their investigation.
The Petronas gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights at 8.10 am on April 1 saw flames reaching heights of over 30 metres (m) with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius, taking nearly eight hours to extinguish, and causing a 9.8 m-deep crater at the incident site. – Bernama Amirudin Shari gas pipeline lead Putra Heights technical report

Online Gambling Den Busted In Serdang Apartment Raid, 496 Illegal Immigrants Detained
SERDANG, July 16 (Bernama) -- The authorities have uncovered an illegal online gambling hub operating from three units of a four-storey apartment block in Pusat Bandar Putra Permai here. The gambling centre was busted during a joint raid conducted by the Immigration Department, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and the General Operations Force last night. Immigration deputy director-general of operations Jafri Embok Taha said preliminary investigations revealed that the three units were registered under the names of three local individuals, based on utility bill records obtained. 'When officers arrived at the residential units, the premises were already empty. It is believed that the suspects had fled, leaving behind only a few tablets, monitors, chairs and tables. We have handed over the case related to the discovery of the gambling hub to MBSJ for further investigation and action,' he said during a press conference after the operation. He added that all three houses were equipped with closed-circuit television cameras to monitor movements outside, and their operations targeted customers among undocumented migrants (PATI) residing in the apartment. Jafri Embok said 496 PATI were taken to the Semenyih Immigration Detention Centre after 741 foreigners were inspected in the operation, which ran from 10 pm to 1 am. 'The suspected offences include violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007,' he said. He added that similar joint operations will be conducted periodically, and the public is reminded not to employ, harbour or house foreigners without valid travel documents in their premises. Jafri Embok also said the department is implementing the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0, running from May 19 this year until April 30, 2026.

Melaka AADK reports 87% increase in client recovery rate in 2024
MELAKA: The recovery rate among clients of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Melaka rose to 87% in 2024, up from 85% in 2023, according to its state director Noor Azrimah Ahmad. She said the figure was higher than the recovery rate targeted by AADK headquarters, which was set at 75 per cent. She said the rise in the recovery rate was driven by several factors, including the effectiveness of the Community-Based Treatment and Rehabilitation Programme, as well as the clients' physical and psychological resilience, and strong support from their families and the community. "With the cooperation of various parties, including the state government, the agency also regularly carries out programmes to reach out to the clients, helping them to foster the self-will to reintegrate into the community. "Through the programme, we conduct engagement sessions with clients either one-on-one or in groups, which they are required to attend at the agency's district office. The programme is also carried out within the community under the Program Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR)," she said last night. She spoke to reporters after the Second Chance: Kita Bantu Kita programme with the programme's clients, held in conjunction with the WRUR initiative for the Duyong state constituency. The event was opened by state science, technology, innovation and digital communication chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan, which was also attended by Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem. Elaborating, Noor Azrimah said the data shows that there are currently 1,400 AADK clients in the state who are still undergoing rehabilitation treatment. She said most clients had a history of abusing synthetic drugs, particularly amphetamine-type stimulants such as methamphetamine and ecstasy, noting that the relapse rate last year stood at 40%. "Therefore, families play a crucial role in supporting and helping clients stay away from drug abuse, while the community must also break the stigma against them by offering opportunities for reintegration," she added. Meanwhile, Mohd Noor Helmy said the Second Chance: Kita Bantu Kita programme with clients would continue to be held in the constituency to ensure these individuals do not feel sidelined, while also providing support to help them break free from unhealthy activities. "The WRUR is a starting point for us to reach out to this group, and I believe the programme has the potential to create a positive impact and bridge the gap between AADK clients and the community," he added. - Bernama
