13MP outlines clear roadmap for nation's future, says Pasir Gudang MP

JOHOR BARU: The 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim outlines a clear direction for the country's future, says a local leader here. Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim said the plan has set targets for the national economy and helps address the cost of living. 'Anwar wants to convey to the people and world, including the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and global institutions that our country has a clear roadmap leading up to the year 2030. 'Malaysia has set macroeconomic and policy targets to raise the people's standard of living by tackling the cost of living,' he said in a statement on Thursday (July 31). He added that the comprehensive documentation also records the nation's socio-economic achievements from 2021 to 2025. 'The 10-year Madani Economy target is to place Malaysia among the world's top 30 largest economies. 'Malaysia was ranked as the 36th largest economy last year and this is a measurable achievement,' he said, adding that the Madani government will introduce 10 economic diversity priorities, including reforms in the local semiconductor industry. Hassan added that the reform agenda for the civil service, improving the people's well-being and environmental sustainability were also emphasised in the plan. 'The government's target is to ensure 500,000 affordable housing units are completed by 2030. As of March this year, a total of 179,769 units have been completed. 'This shows that the government acknowledges significant efforts are still needed to reform the national housing sector,' he said. He also questioned whether it is reasonable for people to demand Anwar's resignation as Prime Minister. 'A large public rally was held in Kuala Lumpur demanding Anwar's resignation on July 26. However, just five days later in Parliament, the Prime Minister stood in the Dewan Rakyat and presented a comprehensive economic policy (a five-year national economic plan) for Malaysia and its people. 'After hearing him table the 13MP, is it still reasonable for the people to demand Anwar's resignation when he is entrusted to lead and realise the aspirations outlined in the plan?' he stressed. He stated that the presentation was to clarify the initiatives the Madani Government will undertake over the next five years, if it is given the mandate to lead the country again.

Anwar: Malaysia ready to be voice for developing nations on global stage

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is ready to be a bridge and voice for the developing world on various global issues of common interest, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said that key areas of focus include the reform of international financial institutions, fairer trade, climate justice, technology transfer, and capacity building. He added that Malaysia would maintain strong relations with all countries, remaining committed and active in spearheading various initiatives at the Asean level. The nation's active involvement with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec), BRICS, and countries in the Global South would also be strengthened, reflecting Malaysia's determination to advocate for a more just world order. "We do not want to be mere local champions, excelling on our own turf but insignificant on the global stage," he said. "We must collectively restore Malaysia's image as a prosperous nation, rich in cultural uniqueness and firmly rooted in its local values and history." The Prime Minister also announced that Malaysia would leverage the opportunity of hosting the Sea Games in 2027 and several other international tournaments over the next five years. "The opportunity to host such prestigious sports events will be an important platform to foster unity among the people," he said.

PM: Malaysia accelerates green economy under 13MP, prioritises sustainability and low-carbon growth

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — The government will intensify efforts to implement a comprehensive green economy agenda under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with a wide range of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and accelerating the nation's transition to low-carbon development. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the nation's five-year plan in the Dewan Rakyat today, said the green economy will serve as a development model that prioritises environmental stewardship while creating new, sustainable economic opportunities. As part of this effort, carbon trading will be streamlined through the introduction of the National Carbon Market Policy, the implementation of an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and the provision of incentives for carbon credit projects. 'Apart from that, activities related to carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) will also be intensified and integrated into the nation's green investment and financing taxonomy,' he said. The Prime Minister said the government will also launch a pilot carbon capture project in the iron and steel industry, specifically in Kemaman, Terengganu, as part of efforts to decarbonise heavy industry. Abwar said that to support national decarbonisation goals across key sectors, green financing mechanisms will be expanded to provide broader access for industry players and project developers. He also revealed that the government has drafted a Malaysian Aviation Sector Decarbonisation Roadmap, which outlines infrastructure development and the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to reduce carbon emissions from air travel. In parallel, the government will optimise agricultural waste to drive a circular economy, turning biomass into new sources of value-added products. 'As such, the waste-to-energy plant programme will also be expanded through private sector collaboration to reduce the nation's reliance on landfills. 'At the same time, the capacity of biodiesel blending depots in Sandakan, Lahad Datu, and Bintulu will be upgraded to support the increased use of alternative low-carbon fuels,' he said. These initiatives underscore the government's commitment to embedding environmental responsibility into Malaysia's long-term economic strategy, making sustainability a central pillar of national development under 13MP's 'Redesigning Development' framework. — Bernama
