Here's Why Archer Aviation Stock Is a Buy Before Aug. 1
That's the next big step, but as a start-up trying to break into a capital-intensive industry, Archer is in a race against the clock. When it reports second-quarter earnings in early August, the update is likely to be very positive.
Here's why more-aggressive investors might want to buy before the upcoming earnings release.
What does Archer Aviation do?
Right now, Archer spends lots and lots of money -- and for good reason. The company is looking to break into the aerospace industry, which is a mature business sector with a small number of very large players that dominate the space. So it is taking on a very material task.
The edge that Archer is trying to exploit is a new type of aircraft. Its eVTOL is a short-haul airplane that will be used as an air taxi. That's a completely different way to think about airplanes. It already has a prototype and is starting to ramp up production.
The airplanes it is producing are largely meant for testing, so it isn't making money selling them just yet. But it has to spend money because it needs to have its eVTOL fully vetted by regulators if it wants to earn approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to carry commercial customers.
There are two big issues that come out of this strategy. FAA approval is highly important to Archer's future. And, since it can't really earn money until it gets that approval, access to capital is also vitally important. Second-quarter earnings are likely to show improvement on both fronts.
Where does Archer stand today?
As of the first quarter of 2025, the company estimated that it was about 15% complete with a key FAA approval process. That was up a tiny two percentage points from the end of 2024. However, management made a key comment in its first-quarter shareholder letter, noting that the pace of the approval process was likely to increase.
On that score, a company press release on June 2 described a piloted flight of its aircraft as it moved on to the next phase of flight testing. It discussed the piloted test flight, but the real point of the release is to tell the world that it is moving forward in the FAA approval process.
When the company reports earnings, this flight -- and any subsequent flights -- will likely be discussed in greater detail. And there will be an update on the overall approval progress. Assuming the pace of approval picks up, as management has suggested, the company is moving closer and closer to generating revenue.
That said, it is still a cash-burning start-up. So investors will also want to pay close attention to Archer's balance sheet. And the update here also seems likely to be a positive one.
That's because it sold 85 million shares of Class A common stock for $10 per share. With the sale, the company reported that its liquidity position was around $2 billion. The more cash it has, the more likely it is that it will be able to fund itself through the approval process.
More good news is coming Archer's way
All in, it seems like Archer Aviation's second-quarter 2025 earnings will be filled with good news. And that backs the long-term thesis for investors buying the stock in the hopes it can successfully break into the aerospace industry with an air taxi.
To be fair, it is still a high-risk investment, so only more-aggressive investors should be looking at it. But if you can handle owning a risky stock, buying before Archer Aviation's next earnings update could make a lot of sense.

Tesla slides as Musk's ‘America Party' heightens investor worries
Tesla TSLA.O shares fell nearly 7% in premarket trading on Monday after CEO Elon Musk's plans to launch a new U.S. political party reignited concerns about his commitment to the company's future as it struggles with declining sales. Musk unveiled the 'America Party' on Saturday after openly sparring with Donald Trump over the U.S. president's tax-cut and spending bill. Their feud erupted into an all-out social media brawl in early June, with Trump threatening to cut off the billions of dollars in subsidies that Musk's companies receive from the federal government. Musk's political move comes days after Tesla posted a second straight drop in quarterly deliveries, piling pressure on its stock as the company grapples with fierce competition and an aging vehicle line-up. 'Investors are worried about two things – one is more Trump ire affecting subsidies and the other, more importantly, is a distracted Musk,' said Neil Wilson, U.K. investor strategist at Saxo Markets. Tesla's stock, which hit a record high in December after Trump's November re-election, has lost 35% since then, making it the worst-performing stock among 'the Magnificent Seven' group of high-growth U.S. companies this year. Investors had in May cheered Musk's decision to scale back his political involvement and remain Tesla CEO for another five years. He had spent nearly $300 million around Trump's re-election campaign last year. 'But now (they) are worried he's going to (get) sucked back in and take his eye off Tesla,' Wilson said. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, a Tesla bull, said many investors are feeling a 'sense of exhaustion' over Musk's insistence on immersing himself in politics. The first signs of investor unease surfaced soon after Musk's announcement, with investment firm Azoria Partners delaying the listing of a Tesla exchange-traded fund. Trump on Sunday called Musk's plans to form the 'America Party' 'ridiculous‚' saying the Musk ally he once named to lead NASA would have presented a conflict of interest given Musk's business interests in space. Tesla board moves Azoria Partners CEO James Fishback posted several critical comments on X about Musk's new party, and called for the Tesla board to clarify Musk's political ambitions and evaluate if his political involvement is compatible with his obligations to Tesla as CEO. The new party undermines the confidence shareholders had that Musk would be focusing more on the company, Fishback said. Musk's latest political move raises questions around Tesla board's course of action. Its chair, Robyn Denholm, in May denied a Wall Street Journal report that said board members were looking to replace the CEO. Tesla's board, which has been criticized for failing to provide oversight of its combative, headline-making CEO, faces a dilemma managing him as he oversees five other companies and his personal political ambitions. 'This is exactly the kind of thing a board of directors would curtail - removing the CEO if he refused to curtail these kinds of activities,' said Ann Lipton, a professor at the University of Colorado Law School and an expert in business law. 'The Tesla board has been fairly supine; they have not, at least not in any demonstrable way, taken any action to force Musk to limit his outside ventures, and it's difficult to imagine they would begin now.' Should You Buy Rigetti Computing Stock for Less Than $15?
Key Points Quantum computing is a new pillar supporting the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, and industry analysts expect the technology to add trillions in economic value over the coming decades. While its share price of $13 might give the appearance of a cheap stock, Rigetti's valuation multiples are sky-high compared to other leading AI opportunities. For the last few years, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a forceful megatrend fueling the stock market to new heights. Sophisticated chipsets known as graphics processing units (GPUs) represent the foundation on which generative AI applications are being developed. While GPUs remain an integral technology across both hardware and software, a new piece of infrastructure is beginning to emerge as the second layer in the AI pyramid: quantum computing. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » While quantum computing is not a widely commercialized product yet, AI companies, both large and small, are swiftly investing in its development. From "Magnificent Seven" members such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon to lesser-known businesses like IonQ and D-Wave Quantum, there is no shortage of companies looking to get involved in this disruptive technology. One quantum computing stock that has managed to fetch a lot of attention over the last year is Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ: RGTI). With shares trading for below $15, is now a lucrative opportunity to start buying? Read on to find out. Quantum computing is a promising opportunity, and... Given the small scale of quantum computing right now, industry estimates over its total addressable market (TAM) vary considerably. What is more widely accepted is that the power of these computers could bring a new wave of efficiency and discovery in industries such as cybersecurity, financial services, and pharmaceuticals. According to a study from Statista, quantum computing could create up to $850 billion in economic value creation over the coming decades. Management consulting firm McKinsey & Company is even more bullish, calling for $1.3 trillion in added value by the next decade thanks to quantum computing. ... Rigetti Computing has gotten a lot of attention, but... The chart below illustrates' Rigetti Computing's share price dynamics over the last year. Throughout most of 2024, shares of Rigetti were hovering around penny stock levels. RGTI data by YCharts However, toward the end of the year, Rigetti stock started going parabolic. In my eyes, this rapid ascent can be tied to a number of different factors. First, back in December, AI leader Alphabet teased investors with a little preview of its own quantum computing chip, Willow. In addition, both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes experienced notable increases during the last three months of 2024. To me, shares of Rigetti initially became caught up in more of a bullish macro sentiment around the quantum computing opportunity and broader market trends in general. But notice how shares took a nosedive back in January, following several weeks of sharp gains. Rigetti's sell-off earlier this year came after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made comments alluding to quantum computing's usefulness being several years away. While Rigetti stock has since rebounded from low points earlier this year, the stock has mostly traded sideways over the last several months. ... smart investors need to understand the full valuation picture When it comes to valuing a stock, smart investors understand that there is much more to look at than the share price. While a $13 stock price might look cheap, consider that Rigetti Computing boasts a market capitalization of $4.2 billion. Given the company has only generated about $9 million in sales over the last 12 months, that implies Rigetti stock is trading at a price-to-sales (P/S) multiple north of 320. RGTI PS Ratio data by YCharts To put this into context, Rigetti's P/S multiple is in a completely separate universe compared to the AI industry's biggest developers. Even though the appearance of a low share price might imply the company is trading for a discount, the valuation trends explored above suggest otherwise. Not only is Rigetti stock overbought, but the valuation expansion pictured above is unsustainable. I would pass on Rigetti Computing stock right now. I see the company as a highly speculative opportunity in an emerging field that is still developing. Should you invest $1,000 in Rigetti Computing right now?
