The win marks Evans' first at Safari Rally Kenya and the team's 13th overall victory at the legendary African event, adding another milestone as TGR-WRT celebrated its 100th WRC event since debuting in 2017.

This year's Safari Rally Kenya covered a punishing 383.1 kilometres of competitive distance and presented drivers with some of the most extreme rallying conditions of the WRC calendar. From treacherous rocky terrain to sections transformed by torrential rain, every kilometre tested the durability of machine and mindset. After a steady start on day one, Evans and Martin moved into the lead on Friday through a measured yet assertive approach. As other competitors faltered in the harsh conditions, the duo maintained consistency to build an advantage of nearly two minutes by the end of day three. On day four, they managed the final five stages with precision and composure, securing victory by 1 minute and 9.9 seconds.
This result also marks Toyota's 53rd win and 123rd podium in the WRC since its return to the championship in 2017. With three back-to-back victories in the 2025 season, Toyota now leads the manufacturers' championship with 148 points.
Over the years, Toyota has been participating in many different forms of motorsports, including Formula One, the World Endurance Championship (WEC), and the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race. Toyota's participation in these events was overseen by separate entities within the company until April 2015, when Toyota established TGR to consolidate all of its motorsport activities under one in-house brand. Big US automakers report sales jump on pre-tariff demand
NEW YORK: Several leading automakers including Detroit giants General Motors and Ford reported increased US car sales in the second quarter on Tuesday as consumers fast-forwarded purchases ahead of US tariffs. Sales were particularly brisk early in the quarter as expectations of US President Donald Trump's coming tariffs dominated the news. Besides the US companies, Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda and South Korean brands Kia and Hyundai all reported increased sales compared with the 2024 stretch. 'They were able to capitalize on the tariff-induced fear and that drove sales, especially in the early part of the quarter,' said Garrett Nelson, equity analyst at CFRA Research. While the auto industry has been near the center of Trump's efforts to reset global trade, consumers have yet to see significant price increases due to tariffs. That is because companies have relied on existing inventories that include vehicles imported before tariffs took effect. Prices are expected to rise more in the second half of 2025, but market demand and supply forces could constrain such hikes, analysts said. GM notched a 7.3 percent rise in vehicle deliveries to 746,588 behind a continued solid performance in pickup trucks and SUVs, as well as good sales of models geared towards customers seeking affordable vehicles. These include the Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Trax, a lower-priced vehicle imported from South Korea. Ford, meanwhile, scored a 14.2 percent jump in sales to 612,095, reflecting the boon from a popular program that offered customers employee pricing on many models. Most of Ford's leading vehicles saw higher sales, including the best-selling pickup F-series, as well as the Ford Explorer SUV. While Ford had lower sales of its all-electric F-150 Lightning Truck and the Mustang Mach-E, it reported a jump in hybrid vehicle sales. Cox Automotive Chief Economist Jonathan Smoke has projected an eight percent rise in prices due to tariffs, adding that 'we don't think consumers or fleet buyers are able and willing to accept that added cost,' he said at a briefing last week. Smoke predicted that uncertainty about the economy and whether the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates could lead many buyers to defer purchases. Nelson said automakers have to be 'very careful' with price hikes. 'Things have cooled off from where they were at the beginning of the quarter,' he said. But as the tournament moves towards the business end, FIFA's new competition is also providing the opportunity to see one of the game's greatest coaches in the midst of rebuilding and recreating his dynasty. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have won six of the last eight Premier League titles along with a host of Cups including the 2023 Champions League. But last year they looked like an empire in decline, finishing 13 points behind Liverpool with performances that were even less inspiring then the results they generated. At times it felt like the end of the Guardiola era but the Spaniard has set about re-building his team and the 5-2 demolition of Juventus on Thursday indicated the process is moving along swiftly and successfully. 'I'm really pleased because the most important thing is the players have to realize what we have to do to get back to what we were the last decade,' said Guardiola. It is tempting to view the City rebuild project purely in terms of personnel and certainly astutely recruited new arrivals Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki in midfield and Rayan Ait-Nouri at left-back showed against Juve that they have the profiles to fit into the City mould immediately. But after success built on his trademark relentlessly dominant possession football, is Guardiola also undergoing a change in his approach?
