Frisco ISD subpoenaed for student names, records in connection to Karmelo Anthony case
The subpoena is in connection to the case of The State of Texas vs Karmelo Anthony, the student accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf, another student at the track meet.
The school district notified parents via letter on July 24, as identifying information of students is protected from release without parental consent under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) except when a school is required to release that information under a subpoena.
It is not clear how many students were present at the track meet.
Anthony, who is facing a first-degree murder charge, has been on house arrest since being released on a reduced bond on April 14. If convicted, Anthony could face a possible sentence of 5-99 years or life in prison. He was indicted for murder by a Collin County grand jury in June.
A Collin County judge has set a trial date of June 1, 2026 for Anthony.

Dear Parents of 2024-25 Memorial Track & Field Athletes,
Pursuant to FERPA requirements found in 34 C.F.R. 99.31 (a)(9)(ii), the District is providing you with notice of a subpoena it received in Cause No. 296-83565-2025. Our records indicate that your student attended, or was scheduled to attend, the track meet at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, 2025; therefore, a record responsive to the subpoena contains what would be considered your student's personally identifiable information per FERPA.
The subpoena is requesting the following records:
Please provide a list of all student-athletes from Memorial HS, including their full name, date of birth, address, parents' names and contact information, who attended a track meet at the Kuykendall stadium on 04/02/2025.
If you seek protective action against the disclosure of this record, please email a copy of your motion and/or notice of hearing to me at [redacted], on or before July 29, 2025, so that I am aware of the status as to whether the record containing your/your student's information must be released. Otherwise, the District will have to comply with the subpoena pursuant to Texas Code of Criminal 24.06, and release the record on July 29th. Thank you for considering this request.

On Monday, July 21, James Anthony Morris Jr. was arrested after allegedly imprisoning a 10-year-old girl at a Jacksonville, Fla., Subway location where he is a manager, Law & Crime reported, citing an arrest report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Action News Jax also reported about the incident. After arriving with her mother at the restaurant — located on Argyle Forest Boulevard near Old Middleburg Road, per Action News Jax — the girl walked on an area that Morris, 33, had just mopped, according to the report obtained by Law & Crime. Her mother subsequently asked her to apologize, per the report. The Subway manager then allegedly grabbed the girl by the hand and brought her to the back of the restaurant, where he locked her in a room, according to the arrest report. Initially, the girl's mom believed Morris was playing around, but then began to 'panic,' Law & Crime reported. The distressed parent tried to open the door, but Morris allegedly 'pushed' it closed, leading to an altercation, according to the arrest report. The mom then allegedly 'fought' with the Subway manager and called out for help, ultimately getting the door open to free her daughter. Another employee at the sandwich shop responded to the mom's cries for help, according to the arrest report. He later told police that he had allegedly observed Morris pull the girl and 'heard the commotion' that followed. He also called Morris's behavior 'weird,' per the report. IDF rejected claims of violence against civilians at Gaza aid distribution site made by a US veteran and ex-GHF worker in a BBC interview. The IDF denied the claim of former US Green Beret, Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Aguilar, who stated that he witnessed the military firing at civilians at aid distribution sites in Gaza during an interview with the BBC on Saturday. The IDF has also denied similar claims over the past few months, saying that it does not fire indiscriminately at civilians, nor does it operate within the distribution sites. Over the past few months, dozens of allegations of the deliberate shooting of civilians by the IDF have been raised by international media. 'I witnessed the IDF firing into a crowd of Palestinians,' Aguilar said. 'I witnessed the IDF firing a main gun tank round from the Merkava tank into a crowd of people, destroying a car of civilians that were simply driving away from the site.' When asked for his professional opinion on the situation, he said: 'In my entire career, I have never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against an unarmed, starving civilian population – until I was in Gaza at the hands of the IDF and US contractors.' The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has called the allegations made by Aguilar 'categorially false' and said he was a 'disgruntled former contractor who was terminated for misconduct,' which he has denied, according to the BBC's report. The IDF's 'continuous learning process' Following incidents in which harm to civilians was reported, thorough examinations were conducted, and 'instructions were issued to forces in the field following the lessons learned,' the IDF said, adding that 'the aforementioned incidents are under review.' 'Without question, I witnessed war crimes being committed by the IDF," Augilar concluded.
