School earns top ratings in Ofsted report
The special education school also secured a Good rating across all other categories.
The report said pupils were "at the centre of every decision made at Le Murier" and "their additional learning needs are well met".
The school's staff were recognised for fostering a welcoming and safe environment, where pupils "are safe, happy and excited to attend school", said the report.
Le Murier School opened in September 2008 for pupils of secondary school age with special education needs.
The report said staff provided a "highly targeted and expert personal development provision to enable pupils to thrive in school".
"Pupils and their parents and carers describe it as a welcoming and friendly place," it added.
The report also commended careers and outdoor education initiatives designed to build confidence and independence.
Sixth Form students were particularly praised for their enthusiasm towards future aspirations, with post-16 destinations carefully tailored to individual needs.
The curriculum was described as ambitious, raising staff expectations and leading to increased academic success, with many pupils earning recognised qualifications in 2024.
"To be recognised as Excellent in both our personal development and Sixth Form provision is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the incredible efforts of our students, and the investment of our parents and carers," said headteacher Lee Collier.
"This report reflects our school community, where we work together to help every child become the very best they can be."
Director of education Nick Hynes said it was a "fantastic achievement for Lee, her team, and the entire Le Murier community".
"The inspection highlights the positive, inclusive, and ambitious environment the staff have created," he said.
"We're proud of the school's ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement."

The Greenwich primary school where 'impeccable' pupils are ‘enthusiastic'
A primary school in Greenwich has been praised by Ofsted for its 'impeccable' pupil behaviour and rich learning environment, following a two-day inspection in May. Inspectors visited Millennium Primary School in, based in John Harrison Way, on May 7 and 8, 2025, and found that pupils 'enjoy Millennium Primary School a great deal' and 'feel safe and secure because staff look after them well'. Behaviour and attitudes were rated Outstanding, along with personal development. The quality of education, leadership and management, and early years provision were all rated Good. Although the school previously held an Outstanding grade before converting to academy status, this was its first full inspection under the current framework. Since September 2024, schools no longer receive a single overall effectiveness grade. Inspectors said that pupils behave 'impeccably' in lessons and around the school, and that there are 'very few, if any, interruptions caused by poor behaviour'. READ MORE: Pupils were also described as being 'highly respectful of each other, staff and visitors'. In the playground, pupils were seen 'playing extremely well together' and making the most of the equipment on offer, with a strong sense of fairness, teamwork and friendship. Reading was identified as a particular strength. Pupils were found to reach 'high levels of fluency by the end of Years 1 and 2', with staff given credit for delivering phonics teaching with 'consistently strong' expertise. The report said: 'Frequent checks on pupils' learning ensure that any gaps in their knowledge or misconceptions are tackled quickly.' The curriculum has been 'comprehensively revamped' over the last year, with inspectors noting that it gives pupils a 'broad and ambitious experience'. However, they did highlight 'a few inconsistencies' in how it is delivered across subjects, with some gaps in learning not being picked up quickly enough. Leaders are already taking action to address this, including drawing on the expertise of more experienced staff to support teaching development. Support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) was praised, including the provision for pupils with autism, which inspectors said 'caters effectively' for their needs. Ofsted also noted that attendance is now 'considerably higher than average', with the school rigorously following up absences. The drop in suspensions this year was seen as further evidence of the school's clear expectations and positive culture. Millennium Primary is part of the Maritime Academy Trust and is led by Executive Headteacher Rachel Mollett. Inspectors said the trust and local advisory council 'carry out their governance role effectively' and that the school works closely with staff to manage workload and well-being. Safeguarding was found to be effective.

School shares 'immense pride' after receiving positive Ofsted report
A secondary school in Brampton has shared its 'immense pride' after receiving a positive Ofsted. William Howard School was inspected by the education watchdog on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25. Although Ofsted no longer provided overall effectives judgements for state-funded schools, the report concluded that the Brampton school has taken 'effective action' to maintain the standards identified at its previous inspection. William Howard School was rated 'good' after its last full inspection in May 2019. In its final report, Ofsted praised the school's community and its high expectations for pupils. The report said: "Pupils quickly develop a strong feeling of belonging to this school. Despite coming from a wide geographic area and different backgrounds, they are united by their understanding of 'The William Howard Way'. "Pupils delight in contributing to the school community. For instance, students in the sixth form support younger pupils with their reading. "Pupils in the 'open spaces' group relish their roles caring for the school's animals." The report also acknowledged areas where the school can continue to improve, including the clarity of key knowledge in certain key stage three subject and the extension of reading support into key stage 4. In a letter to parents after the school received its latest Ofsted report, William Howard School's headteacher Kath Pigdon shared her delight at its findings. She said: "It is with immense pride that I share a report that captures the heart and soul of William Howard School, a place where pupils quickly develop a strong sense of belonging, underpinned by our shared values and the unifying strength of 'The William Howard Way'." "Despite our students coming from many different areas and backgrounds, the inspectors recognised what we see every day a community bound by mutual respect, aspiration, and a commitment to each other. "I would also like to thank you our wider school community for your continued support. We recognise the strength of this partnership is a vital part of our success. "This report is not just a reflection of a school inspection; it is a celebration of our young people and all that they achieve here."

Inspector says school is 'so good they'd send their children there'
A PRIMARY school is celebrating after being judged "outstanding" by Ofsted, with inspectors saying they'd send their own children there. Suckley School said inspectors told them that they would have "loved" for their own children to attend the school during the inspection. The school has received a glowing report from inspectors, who said it was an "inspirational school where pupils flourish". It received the highest ranking of "outstanding" in quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. The school's support for pupils' personal development also received high praise, with inspectors drawing attention to an initiative in which Year 6 pupils carry out work experience. Inspectors were impressed by other enrichment opportunities at the school, including visiting an inner-city school in Birmingham to experience a contrasting location. One pupil said "this helps bring learning to life". Staff are also said to be "very proud" to work at the school. A spokesperson for Suckley School said: "These observations are testament to the incredible dedication of all the staff and governors at Suckley School who have worked, and continue to work, tirelessly for all of the children. "Their skills and expertise have been rightly acknowledged by the inspectors, who praised staff for the curriculum being 'implemented exceptionally well' and recognising we go 'beyond the expected'. "Our favourite comments throughout the inspection were from the lead inspector who simply said 'I'd have loved my children to have come here' and 'what you have here is gold dust'. "Ofsted also left us with no 'areas for improvement'."
